Well, from all accounts it was a verbal argument, and about 30 seconds of actual physical back and forth. The production guy went to A&E (ER) for a split lip. Apparently, the police have now requested the BBC hand over details of their investigation in case of potential criminal charges should be brought.

The Citadel was a large amount of fan-wankery. Really entertaining and amusing, but still what it was. It had a lot of feel-good, a fair few laughs, and some nice Hoo-Rah! moments. And it was totally, utterly aware in itself and what it was doing. That's what made it work. From what it sounds like so far about Jaws of Hakkon, is that it's basically throwing you into the same old, same old. On a game that had a lot of that same old to begin with. But we'll have to wait till there's more out about it and some actual reviews of gameplay. Nothing about it cried out for an immediate acquirement, so , eh.

Top Gear has worked because Clarkson, May, and Hammond are entirely sincerely enthusiastic about what they do, and happen to act like they're still 10 year olds given the keys to the kingdom. They banter, they don't worry about being politically correct, and they have a lot of fun arsing around with cars, engines, and generally bouncing off each other as they figure out what's good about a car.

If you like your murder mystery without all the flash and bang yet still with great dialogue, I heartily recommend digging up the two seasons of the Nero Wolfe Mysteries with Timothy Hutton and Maury Chaykin. They might be going 14-15 years old now, but they are rather damn impeccable.

Well, my mother has cancer and is making a few jokes about taking a walk with the grim reaper tapping on her shoulder. Also the whole "I'm not asking the doctors on if there's a timeline, but you can if you want". My girlfriend seems to be recovering from brain surgery okay, but her dog is now going into liver/renal failure and is likely to pass on before the weekend is out. One of my oldest friends has admitted that he might, perhaps, by chance need to go to AA and sort out some things in his life. Plus a few other things are going on and juggling around. I seem to be internalising most of that at the moment rather than actually deal emotionally. This could be a very strange week.

Damn, just realised that I'm getting on the tube to Holloway tomorrow.. which is a stop short of Arsenal. And of course, there's a bloody Arsenal / West Ham game isn't there? It's going to be sodding packed with football supporters.

I seem to have a lingering shoulder issue. When I rotate one arm into certain positions I just get shooting pains through my shoulder and upper arm. For the past few months I haven't been able to use that arm to scratch the small of my back because of it. Which can be somewhat annoying. I thought it might just be a slight tendon thing so I've been going easy on it, but it hasn't seemed to have cleared up yet. Sorting out a few plans, travelling up to London over the weekend, then back for mom's chemo session on Monday.

For those bourbon drinkers out there... io9 - Dystopia is Arriving: It's only a matter of time before the Bourbon shortage hits... Of course, not every bourbon is required to mellow for decades before it's poured; plenty can and do take considerably less time. But, the longer it's allowed to mellow, the more likely that any jagged notes in the flavor will have had time to soften. So much so that if the whiskey you're selling is less than four years old, you're required by federal whiskey law (yes, it's a thing) to slap a label on the bottle alerting potential customers to that fact (let no one say they didn't try to warn you). The good news hidden in all this is that a bourbon shortage is by its very nature, a temporary thing. The bad news is that a solution, at least by traditional brewing methods, is always at least a decade or so away. But fear not! The future bourbon that will save us from a dispiriting future of offers of sad vodka-cranberries and weird little pickled onion martinis is already brewing. It's just not ready to arrive quite yet.- 488 replies
