  1. Underworld Blood Wars. Heh. Well it was good to see Kate Beckinsale back in that costume, and it had that moody, broody pseudo-action riff to the film in general. Plenty of stylish moments, with expansion of the background elements in some ways (but still keeping them kind of shallow). Interesting in that they reference elements from the previous film, but at the same time completely skip over the "the rest of humanity is aware of lycans and vampires and hunted us down", and instead its a bit of a return to the various coven houses full of overblown gothicly exuberant vampires. I don't think they actually had as many action sequences as they've done in previous films...but they did add a touch more mysticism just to shift things up apparently. Then they ended it with a hook for a potential next film. Charles Dance as ever sinks himself into the role, although there's never enough of him on screen, and Lara Pulver firmly takes to the role of the manipulative vamp (people might recognise her more as Irene Adler in Sherlock). Theo James does the manly leader type who really follows Selene around and is probably meant to be more of the eye-candy for the other half of the audience. Tobias Menzies as the main antagonist doesn't have too much to work with, but does what he can.

  3. Actually, no. It's a run of the mill Tabloid newspaper. Not as high brow as The Guardian, not quite as low-brow as The Sun. But it does tend to have that off-centre right bias.
  4. Actually, this has me snerking some.. Wikipedia bans the Daily Mail as unreliable source
  5. I am tempted to put this in politics..but eh..

  9. So someone turned their CV into a Character Sheet. Quirky. Not sure just how well it would work out, but I guess that depends on the job field you happen to be hunting in...
  10. Edited: Someone beat me to it.
  11. You have to admit...
  12. Lol, I noticed that too! I even commented to my wife that the mooks sure were making it easy to identify them. Apparently the Director had it done as an homage to the whole redshirt thing. I guess it also makes sense, security at clubs do like to ensure a certain "uniform" to make them recognisable from the crowd...
  13. For that whole club scene, it's the little things that amused me. All the bad guys he was killing were wearing literal red shirts.
  14. In some regards to the action sequences, this might interest a few folks: Tom Cruise, John Wick, and the New Hollywood Gunfight A touch on how single shots of well-practiced moves add a sense of realism and effect that you lose when it's all "cut here, cut there, change angle over there.." that you used to get in most action sequences. Thus the physical training and muscle memory of being able to perform x martial arts or y firearms drills provide a more effective burst of action than you might otherwise get, especially when it's all obviously done in one single take.
  15. I have to admit, I loved the supporting cast in that film. A lot of very good actors who always seem to have that "I recognise the face but not the name." Also, you have a scene where Keannu actually emotes. Seriously emotes. How can you not be impressed with that?
