  1. "Used to run a business that was primarily focused on real estate and personnel placement with some dabbling in construction and other industries." Technically that isn't an incorrect way of referring to leading an army of demons bent on conquest...
  2. For a recent release on Amazon Prime that might provide a few chuckles... Nobility. Currently being dubbed a "dramedy, The Office in Space", it has a whole bunch of actors from various sci-fi shows playing the not so brilliant crew of the "best" warship in Humanities navy in the far future. When you have the likes of Cas Anvar (the Expanse), Walter Koenig (Star Trek & Babylon 5), Torri Higginson (SG:Atlantis & Dark Matter), Christopher Judge (SG1), Ellen Dubin (Lexx), along with a bunch of other faces and voices you'd recognise just simply having fun doing slightly twisted takes on some of the classic sci-fi show archetypes... All shot in a way to remind you of those low-budget early sci-fi series, that are kind of bad, but still enjoyable.

  7. I think part of the attacks have been in the style of "Hollywood can constantly cast middle-eastern actors as terrorists, but they can't find one to play Aladdin?" To which my response is generally, Hollywood has been casting English actors as criminal masterminds for decades. Learn to live with it. The bad guys usually have the best and most quotable lines.

  11. Still juggling assorted bureaucracy to see what I can do about student loans and tuition fees for the return to university. But while I'm about that, did have a general conversation with the course leader about getting ready for the course before the semester starts in September. My somewhat faded skills with the likes of Ada and Cobol are a wee bit un-useful, so I'm focusing on the data science and analysis units more than the hard core advanced programming. But I still need to sit down and get to grips with Python, R, and re-familiarise myself with current SQL. However, the weather has turned muggy, and some authors have released some new books so procrastination is calling quite firmly on this afternoon.

  13. Said form of Time Lords has always been bipedal humanoid. The main difference being two hearts which generally isn't a highly visible feature. Across the decades the show has run, Time Lords have invariably spoken with a British accent and the majority have been white. But, there have been female and male Time Lords shown in varying positions of power/influence. I'm not bothered by the fact that a woman has been cast in the role. As long as it's written interestingly and with decent character. If it's done pretty much as a "Look how shiny and modern and feminist we are!" instead, that will be a letdown. Most of the Doctor Who stories should work without regards of if the Doctor is male or female, if it starts turning into a hanging point for it...
  14. To be fair, Thor not being worthy to wield Mjolnir has a history with the character. Wasn't that part of the original reason Odin kicked him to Earth and trapped as the simple human Doctor Blake until he'd learnt some humility. Part of which they used for the first Thor movie. I seem to recall they've bounced that concept around a few times, as well as introducing a handful of other characters that were worthy enough to wield the hammer.
