I just picked it up and installed it last night. Briefly ran it, and made the mistake of testing out in the Open Game variety, and found absolutely no tutorial type happening. So at some point I'll have to run it in one of the set scenarios and see if they come with explanations for what I actually have to do

It's the normal difficulty. My first playthrough, I was keeping it simple. It does take time. I think it took about 10+ hours of gameplay to get to there. I'm playing the campaign so there are some specific gates to getting access to research and minions. I took a big break from it to play Horizon Zero Dawn...
