Journalism and sexism in the games industry

I'd like to add to this that the Australian market has always been a problematic one and that developers have changed their games just to be distributed on Australia. Maybe this will the final coffin nail for Au. I mean, just how big is the Australian market? On a related note; poor Yatzhee won't be getting anymore games. -

The link really undermines the neutrality of the article. They are right in saying that Target has a say in what they sell on their stores just like the consumer can go elsewhere where the game is sold. The article has its leftist leaning but for the most part it makes its point well, inadvertently offers some suggestions (some which have already been put into action) and remains unoffensive. Which is a bit bothering because it leaves me without someone to blame as well. I somehow wonder if they would've written a similar article if Gone Home was banned because of homosexual material. Probably not but since i'm not a leftist I'm not ruled by emotions but pragmatism. -

I'm beginning to think that the whole thing with the sword might have something to do with the fact that we can't complain that the sheriff is near.

I don't like it, I don't like when women do it but some women can pull it off.

Yeah. It's a Korean MMO called Black Desert, most likely it will never see the light of day out west. Well the solution is simple, we all learn Korean.

If you examine any issue there is almost never a singular cause. Its a domino effect of a variety of things that fall together to form the pattern we see, which is why I don't address cause in general in my prior statements. Knowing that its not the root problem doesn't mean that we shouldn't try to prevent the "symptoms". And honestly a lot of people need to learn that being asked for things you've said you'd deliver isn't harassment in and of itself (otherwise, bosses the world over are harassing their employees); just as harassment is a problem claiming harassment to avoid the consequences of ones actions is also a problem. Well, i have to concede that terms like personal responsibility and good parenting are quite broad statements as well. They might encompass the problem described, they might not, depending on how they are defined. Actually If they are moral or savvy they might realize that it would make them complicit on a crime. If someone was to brought fraud charges against the developer they might be drawn in because they profited from it. I don't know if this is a nice thing to say but: Fingers Crossed. -

There's some controversy regarding the page and the moderators who are pro-corruption and Jimmy Wales doesn't seem to believe there's anything going on. -
Hey Amentep, have you ever told anyone that you're a cinephile and then they look at you like you're some kind of pervert?

I don't understand why people think BioWare *was* the doctors. There are 800 people at that company. It's just a company. Yes, the founders left. But it's not like the company went bankrupt or anything. You'd think by how some people talked that Ray and Greg were holding up a doorway in a burning orphanage yelling for people to go on without them. Really, they been doing stuff like this since BG....but to be fair the dialog wasn't as cringy.

I was kind of surprised to find that she is actually an aero space engineer.

The worst part is that during the time it was effective it led to no significant change in profit on the games that used it. It'd say that's the best part - perhaps it'll show investors that it's a waste of money to insist on using DRMs and hopefully GOG and CDProject can show that pouring the money into quality will increase sales instead. I'd said somewhere before that piracy has been exaggerated to scapegoat publishers and developers. In a culture of yes men you don't want to be the guy that tells the publisher that their product failed because they messed up or if the developer messes up and doesn't want to take responsibility. Piracy is an unknown, vague and obscure thing that they can point to and treat like a bogeyman. But yes, let's be optimists and think that it will change for the better. When has that not worked?

The blade doesn't slide down, is an energy blade and it doesn't have a surface to slide from. The field doesn't react until it hits something and then its closer to being something with mass.

I would say that a lightsaber not having a crossguard is very practical, yours is a false equivalence argument because swords are not lightsabers. Firstly; lightsabers have no weight and cut on momentum alone. Secondly; lightsabers are not just for humans, we all need to accept that the galaxy is a diverse place and that everyone needs to be equally represented even if it leads to fewer fingers. There are such materials that resist lightsabers but they are rare, I would say that an armored glove with a force field that acts as a guard without restricting movement would be better.

This can be arranged. Though I'm not sure why we need him to do what we're already doing. I mean.... Nothing to see here. Nothing at all. terminator themed game confirmed, right? RIIIIIIGHT???!!! Chris Avellone is at least a T1000, so it would make sense to do one of those one of these days. Why do you need to make another T1000?

Putin is ugly and short, but he had a wife and still has a platoon of hot chicks at his disposal. A platoon of terrified chicks. More than what I got.

I think that I've said it somewhere before, but if the rumors about Denuvo are true then game publishers better get ready for lawsuits. Either developers have overstated piracy as a problem in order to cover themselves because they have made a low quality product or because the publisher meddling/unrealistic expectations. Really they should consider how much they stand to lose on piracy vs. how much they stand to lose with damaging DRM, still I think that DRM is mostly a investor reassurance. You'd think that publishers would be thinking about changing their production model, investing on creating programs that automate portions of the pipeline, creating and controlling low cost games that can become a safety net for bigger titles. They've been getting the shaft from distributors that undermine their profit by reselling their product for years but they have done nothing about it. When they could have easily used online distribution to bypass the distributors.

I'm hardly interested in Brianna Wu, but this... She's such an abrasive moron. What the hell is "mansplaining" anyway? All he did is provide evidence that her claim was untrue; why would the fact he is a man be even remotely relevant? There are people who think this brazen stupidity is acceptable? It is when you're a woman who needs no man or education. Generally, I would agree that some people can be condescending with their explanations but I wouldn't use a gender term instead. Just like I wouldn't use one instead of hysteria. -

I always found them ridiculous, gears for its own sake always discounting that art noveau was the popular style of the day. Is it too much to ask for some symmetry and some flow?
