And Might & magic has never really been considered the pinnacle of RPG's either.. It doesn't matter much if they move away from the original games, it will probably just be for the better. I think they're just lending the universe, with the lore and names and stuff.. It's looking good so far.

Well, by reading alanschu's signature, I can claim that he is indeed a liar. I read through that awful mess of a thread and nowhere did I see Battlewookie claim that a typo was a bug (unless the typo was in the actual code and not the dialogue/descriptions). Isn't it cool when the quote you choose to ridicule someone comes back and bites you in the.. bottom and makes you, yourself, look like the fool? Anyhow, I don't understand why this thread is even needed. It's like a huge invitation for a flame-fest. A thread dedicated to trolling and the chance to call a fellow board member a liar. Great reasons for a thread!

Well, it's possible that some days may be spent revealing other things than actual titles. Their press release was somewhat ambiguous, but we should be treated to a good deal of titles at least. 14 days to go.

Reading that article was like reading today's horoscope. A bunch of drivel, written with the lowest common denominator in mind so that as many social rejects as possible can recognize themselves in the text and wholeheartedly agree with the unmotivated conclusion of, "I'm silent and a social retard, therefore I must be more intelligent than thee". It's amazing how many people fall for texts like those just because they want it to be true, just like horoscopes.

I tend to like sandbox games, but somehow this whole idea collides with my image of Electronic Arts. They basically make the most mainstream, streamlined, hold-your-hand-until-you-puke-of-boredom games of all the developers in the business! And now they're going to try their hand at a sandbox game.. Well, I'm intrigued at least.

It looks absolutely amazing. Let's hope they can maintain the same impressive framerate as they did in God of War. It never ever (as long as I've been able to progress) slows down or chugs. Oh, and I just realized why I think the game is difficult. The guy playing in the trailer is only 100x better than I am..

I hate agreeing with Volourn (because that's usually a sign you're wrong) but that article really stunk.

On my Geforce 7800 GS the graphics look like crap with next gen turned on. I have no idea why, but it sure looks like something is buggy as hell. Weird patterns on her shirt and her face looks.. ugly. The patch fixed the framerate (somewhat) but not the artifacts. Check out her right shoulder. Shadows are jagged beyond recognition. Check out her t-shirt (it's supposed to be smooth). Something's wrong.

I guess the characters weren't good enough for someone who likes Deekin. And yes, the game gets better and better the further in you get. But someone with the attention span of a goldfish (who keeps claiming Jade Empire is a long game) will not have the patience to appreciate that. That's understandable.

I have no proof as this is all assumption. I'm not saying they'll show anything at E3, but perhaps a name? A poster with a scantily clad big-busted woman? A genre? Perhaps nothing at all. We'll see.

I'm so glad Obsidian decided that even the move of one of their employees to another company (one with which they seem to have very good connections) is also top secret. Not a word on where he's going!! Not a word on why he's going!! Not a word on when he left!!1 T0P SECRETZ0RZ!!1 Yes, this inability to communicate with the forumites is getting on my nerves.

Too bad the "Next gen content" in the game is buggy as hell.. on Nvidia cards. Apparently it wortks fine on ATI but runs like a hog on Nvidia. Nvidia is supposed to fix it in their next patch. Eidos did their part in the latest Legend patch, but the graphics drivers need to be updated too for it to run/look like it should. Sigh. Go Nvidia.

http://www.sega.com/e3/ SEGA has announced a webpage dedicated to their so far unnanounced titles for E3. Each day (beginning tomorrow, on the 25'th, ending May 10) they'll pull the cover on a new title that's supposed to appear on E3. One of those titles are bound to be from Obsidian, so if you're interested in that, make sure you check in from time to time.

Gee, I wonder why one of us gets paid to do reviews and one doesn't ) I know that's disgustingly arrogant of me (the above), but you're the type of person that wouldn't know quality if it ran up to you and hit you in the face with a 2 by 4. I mean, you think that Neverwinter Nights in single player is a good game..

We try. Sometimes we have enough time to play the game through to the end and sometimes not. Depends on what time of year it is and how many new releases come in the same time period. I was fortunate enough to be able to play Oblivion for vast amounts of time before I had to turn in the review, but for Call of Duty 2 (as an example) I only had a day to play through it. I never made it to the end of that one before handing in the review, something which clearly showed in the text. Some games you don't have to play through to the end to appreciate their greatness (Half-Life 2 is a good example) and some games can fool you into thinking the game is good for 30 hours before you realize it's crap and it's not getting any better no matter how much time you spend on it (Morrowind). My best advice is probably to use a site like www.gamerankings.com, which is a site that gathers reviews from several sources on the net for every game and then gives an average based on all those different reviewers. Relying on just one or two reviewers/game sites is risky.

Atari did an excellent job of supplying Deep Shadows with enough funds to patch Boiling Point until it was a fully working game. That last 200+ MB patch really was awesome.

Ok, that came out a little weird. I didn't mean to say that it was the first jRPG I've played (god, how it's not the first..) but it was the first jRPG that I loved.. after playing it.. uhm I usually dislike jRPG's because they're so exceptionally story-centric. Dragon Quest 8 has a really strong story, but it also has a fantastic gameworld that gives you the illusion that you're free to do anything. The game's story is strictly linear and the quests only have one solution, but I still loved it. I guess the exploration parts were strong enough to counter the bad parts.

Dragon Quest 8: Journey of the Cursed King. The first jRPG I've ever played and absolutely loved, despite the horrible random battles and antiquated combat system.
-
Last RPG I played on a console was 100+ hours. And when it ended I wanted more. That's quality.
-
Rogue Trooper. I'm having surprisingly much fun with this title. I thought it would suck, but it doesn't.

If I reviewed a full price RPG and beat it in ~20 hours, I'd deduct points because it was too short. 20 hours just isn't good enough, no matter how much quality they present during those short hours. Compare it to Jade Empire: The bits that were there were beautiful, well-written (mostly) and interesting. But the game ended almost before it started, which is bad value for your money, no matter how you twist and turn it! Long game and quality are not mutually exclusive. As a comparison, I clocked 110 hours on Oblivion before turning in the review. I beat Dragon Quest 8 with just over 100 hours played. Gothic 2 + Night of the Raven stole 80+ hours of my life. I was probably stupid, but Fallout (and Fallout 2) took a lot longer than 10 hours for me to complete. Closer to 50 hours. Edit: Typo.

Nope. Unless you stop and play that godawful shoot'em up thingie for hours on end. I'm sure we clicked past some of the worst parts of the dialogue, but not more than so we understood the story. When did I say we got it early? We used it when we got it. Extensively. A real game-breaker, one of the worst balancing issues I've seen, and I have played Oblivion. So you claim we didn't complete it in 13-14 hours? Prove me wrong. Also: "The Bad: Combat system is poorly balanced and lacks depth and challenge; fairly short by the genre's standards at less than 20 hours; shooter minigame is much better in concept than in execution. Fraps supports JPG. You can choose which output format you want your pictures in: BMP or JPG or PNG.

We didn't rush Jade Empire. We walked around slowly, we jumped around like silly monkeys in combat and we followed the main story. It still only took 13-14 hours to complete the entire game. I'm not sure how many side-quests we missed, but that shoot'em up quest really roxxored!!1 Edit: Oh yeah, I might add that we used the Jade Golem (I think that was its name) form extensively. The most ridiculously overpowered feature I've ever seen in a RPG, as you just stomped on enemies and won all battles within 30 seconds, including boss battles!
