Blame Social Justice Warriors for Donald Trump
Zoraptor replied to Valsuelm's topic in Way Off-Topic
That's ass-backwards logic. "The right of a person to ruin a discussion is more valuable than the desire of others to see the discussion un-ruined" is putting the cart before the horse. The principle is what it always is- there's a right (or 'right' since the forums are private property) to freedom of expression within certain rules. If the rules aren't infringed then if you don't like what the other person is saying you need to build a bridge and get over it or buy a pack of cards and deal with it. However, there is neither a right to be listened to nor a right to be replied to. Don't do either and problem solved, one way or the other. [redacted] either replies to himself all the time until he gets bored, creates alts to talk to himself, stops doing immense quantities of the lowest effort posts possible to try and get people to reply or just leaves. Having said that it's not like [redacted] hasn't admitted outright to trolling- posting solely to get a response, especially from those who are ignoring him. Guess I could have reported him then, but snitches get stitches and that would damage my valuable self image of battling The Man in all his forms. Really though, all the tools for dealing with problems exist, it just needs people agreeing there is a problem and actually using- and sticking to using- the tools available instead of complaining to mods/ admins about the unfairness of it all in an abstract form. -

Just ignore them, either big I or little i. It's not that hard. If nobody responds, there won't be a problem. After all, as someone has quoted in their sig: if people stop talking to [redacted], he'll leave. -
If Hillary is indicted she'll surely have to pull out. If it were partisan (or looked partisan) like Bill's indictment while president was it would be survivable but in this situation it would be hard to spin it as partisan or similar. That is the only believable way for Bernie to win at this point though. Otherwise it's not even at Leicester City odds. (Having said that, Nottingham Forest in the late 70s were a bigger upset than Leicester since they went on to win the European Cup, twice).

Lumping Bruce in with oby and volo is deeply unfair. They're both comparatively constructive members. The thing about forum rules is that however you write them they're always up for interpretation, no matter how specific they're made. And really, if people learnt a bit of self control the 'issues' would fix themself, it's only sustained by people who habitually engage. Oby is far less annoying now that Monte and Wals aren't around so much, as they simply couldn't help arguing with him all the time- and no matter how ridiculous he was being. Too much Serious Business that could be solved by a few seconds of self reflection and consideration. -
The social media aspects of the campaign have been pretty interesting and varied from competent- though of course half the point of a competent campaign is that you don't actually notice it- to wildly and abjectly incompetent. Bernie's PAC saying they'd spend a million dollars correcting the record on social media was a distinct low point and really illustrated that behind the kind old man exterior lurks a horrendous melange of Iosif Stalin and a beatnik lentil eating hippie who'd surrender the country to ISIS while making Kumbay-ya the new national anthem and forcing people into work camps to grow his lentils collectively. Thank goodness we have Hillary Clinton, our first woman President, to light the way to prosperity, freedom and justice for all! From the moment she was named after Sir Edmund Hillary, first conqueror of Everest she was destined for greatness, she has shown responsibility, calmness under fire and a sense of decorum, restraint and responsibility that makes her the natural choice in November even without mentioning her immense experience and superb decision making skills. Come on you unwashed, dumb and lazy young people, get with the program and support her, or you're a misogynist ignoramus. (To be fair, Bernie support preachiness is also grating, but at least it ain't paid shilling and is mostly believable support. And nobody else has been dumb enough to publicly say they're going to have paid shills as Correct the Record did which is actively counter productive as you end up presuming everyone is $Hilling. I have a felling there's a lot of Trump support as well, but I can't tell whether they're trolling, but Cruz supporters presumably think the internet is satan since they seem to be the rarest of all, except for the now defunct RubioBots)

Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear RELEASED
Zoraptor replied to Infinitron's topic in Computer and Console
Some people seriously believe that Eric Blair was a rightist. Considering he was self confessed hard left (Anarchist/ Marxist) and nobody who has actually read his material could doubt it there's no point arguing with them, they believe that people cannot criticise something they (basically) believe in so if he criticises the left he mus be right. Literal inverse SJWs, basically. I think (imo, usual disclaimers apply) Orwell would dislike the SJW phenomenon a lot, but he'd certainly dislike the contortions that get to the usual argument for Animal Farm being about SJWs. Which basically involves it being a criticism of Stalinism (to them, Marxism) and SJWs being 'Cultural Marxists' therefore... Bunch of morons. Yeah, Roguey selective quoting. Not exactly surprising. And he only got one bite out of it too, Codex might be a learning animal after all. -
Roose was completely lol. He's supposed to be smart and calculating and goes out like an abject and utter moron. Completely out of character. They probably didn't technically lie about Jon Snow being dead. He's clearly going to come back as either Jon Stark or Jon Targaryen via ToJ. Getting killed also, rather conveniently, absolves him of his Nights' Watch oath.

You know, it is possible that it's different sets of people doing the complaining. There's certainly no shortage of people on, say, the Codex who hate Fallout 2 because it has popular references/ memes that were put in nearly twenty years ago and they think those don't fit the serious business of Fallout. Plus, it's Roguey; and cuckold is an actual word with an actual meaning- from Middle English, so it's been around centuries. It didn't spring into existence with GG or Gearbox writers. -

I'm not sure that's the highest purpose of an internet forum and the most worthy pursuit one can engage in on one. %membername%, what is best in forum posting? To flame your enemies, see them driven before you and watch the lamentations of their alts. -
Aegon is likely a back up in case Dany/ Visc didn't pan out. Either that or he's intended solely to sow discord for her eventual return. You could solve most of the mysteries with a few monologues if GRRM wanted to. He only needs to give the characters he says knows too much (like daddy Reed) some booktime and the right person to ask questions/ talk to.

I see John Boehner has compared Cruz to Lucifer. Which seems a bit harsh on Lucifer. At this point I'm more than half way expecting it to actually be Hulk Hogan. Or for Trump to hold a reality TV special to find his VP. It's about the only thing this campaign has missed so far.

You really should change your mind Bruce. The one you've got at the moment is clearly defective so you can probably get a refund or replacement. -
Quentin is basically what you'd expect an actual Harry Potter type to be like at school when he was a teenager- a bit of a richard. That works for me as it's a counter to the theoretically Potter-esque/ Narnia-esque setting and I rather like the whole through a glass, darkly, vibe. Having said that, he's solidly anti hero rather than a villain protagonist like a direct antithesis of Harry Potter would be. He's certainly not 'nice' though, even at the end of the season let alone the beginning. He's just matured a bit. Heh, I was spoiled on who The Beast really was because I knew the actor playing him and he was credited for every Beast episode without visually appearing. Kind of ironic, while he has a Brit accent for the show he always plays americans here as that's his natural accent.

I wonder if it will be based on the nutty pilot of a few years ago. Probably not.

Winston Churchill. Pathological colonialist to the extent he'd likely be regarded as an outright white supremacist these days and at very best a White Man's Burden paternalist, advocated gassing Iraqi Marsh Arabs, starved millions of Bengalis, would have fought against India's independence tooth and nail if he hadn't been voted out of power, celebrated the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbour and let Coventry be bombed. Overall, a genuinely crappy person leavened by some pithy comments and being the right man for the right job at the right time for his country. Even then (and much like Hitler and Stalin) most of his direct contributions to the conduct of war were disastrous- sending troops to Greece, Dieppe, in WW2; Gallipoli in WW1. The only debatable bit is whether he was 'evil' instead of just not a nice guy.

It's also completely natural. You can't have the plus of name recognition of a beloved franchise without the minuses of the name recognition of a beloved franchise as well. People will have expectations that will push them to buy the game because it's Badlur's Gate; and expectations that will push them to dislike what they actually get because it's not their Baldur's Gate which they've imagined for 15 years- and that's with or without extraneous political guff. Same with anything: Force Awakens wouldn't have got nearly as much publicity if it hadn't been Star Wars, it also wouldn't have been criticised as much for being a rehash of all the successful bits of the other star wars movies mashed together. The criticism they've had will be as nothing if they try doing an actual Baldur's Gate 3 though. I bet they'd still take the name recognition and sales it would bring over the clean critical slate of a wholly new product though. -
Can't be worse than their last lot of subs. Collins class were utter trash and made the not great ANZAC frigates look fantastic in comparison. Not that we should criticise, most of our navy has been tied up in harbour since January.

Given it's Chernobyl's 30th anniversary I suppose it was inevitable they'd have a STALKER bundle (+Metros) for both the people who don't have them already. Every time I see footage from the exclusion zone I'm struck by how perfectly the STALKERs captured the atmosphere.

About ten times the average US murder rate. Having said that, she's not the first person connected to the water crisis to have died in mysterious circumstances.

Merkel has to love Turkey, because Erdy has her by the balls over the refugee crisis- indeed, her recent visit was basically continuous low grade ritual humiliation. Any of the EU countries that pays more than lip service to things like open borders and continuous integration has to love Erdy, at present, no option. Obama has to love Turkey because they're in NATO, and in perhaps the single most strategically important position in NATO with its second largest army. Plus, he's been elected so promises to rich Armenian donors don't mean jack any more. Having said that, most people don't hate Turkey, they hate Erdogan and the AKP.

VtM: Bloodlines released, which is not exactly a surprise since the news leaked a while ago. Pretty expensive for a 12 year old game though as Kotick gotta Kotick. Also rotating bundle sales (iD shooters, LA adventure games, BitTrip, Horror now).

What, an 18th century rifle? Story must be apocryphal, they couldn't hit an elephant from that distance. I assume '18th' is a typo. The Long Rifle is an 18th century weapon, albeit used in the 19th in this case. That would be a fairly extraordinary coincidence, especially considering how often that phrase is assumed to be apocryphal.
