  1. Wals said it better than I can ever hope to. I've rationalised my inability to move on (I'm no longer pining for Her, just having a major dose of MGTOW) on my near-total lack of life brought about by the need to finish this dissertation. Not sure if I could actually bring myself to trust a woman even if it weren't for it, but it sure has been a convenient excuse to not even bother trying. At least I have a few female verbal sparring partners, so I'm not going completely monkish. ...And there's a major hottie in the local video store, I gotta go hit on her before streaming breaks through here. :PPP
  2. Back on topic, Icarus from DXHR is now probably the best game theme I've heard (though ME1 theme is pretty damn close).
  3. *scratches head* I'll need to take a holiday to Finlandia. Of course, you need to find an attractive woman who is looking or at least not looking the other way, which, as anyone will tell you, is generally a rather abbreviated time-window. A girl I used to work with at the coffee shop told me that she'd spent less than three weeks as "single" between the age of 17 and 25. :D
  4. Neither have I. Online, the list is simply spelled out; offline, it's a mental checklist they go through.* I recommend the movie "Up in the Air" on this and other matters. *Interestingly, it's the "average" women who are most likely to have lists like this. The "quality" of their mate is a lot more important to their ego than to some bona fide hotties. Entertainingly, I believe this is the reason why I have a lot more luck with really good-looking women than I should. :D
  5. Amen. I've only been interviewed once by a firm with a dedicated HR department. They're like those women who make a laughably long and minutious list of criteria for potential mates, and the discard everybody who doesn't fulfil all of these criteria - no matter what else could be brought to the table. "A ha, I see you have only worked for 22 months at a major law office, instead of the 2 years we specified. The fact that you are also an LL.D. is clearly immaterial." Also, some shmuck overbid me in the apartment sale. Can't say I'm not relieved, but it was something I had to at least take a stab at. Also heard from the realtor the owner wants even more for it - and it's already the 3rd most expensive property (relative to size) sold in this zip code over the past year. :D
  6. Hm , sounds like good practice for dating a lot of the women I've known. The trick with women is to not start qualifying yourself but make them do it, instead. Can't do that with job applications.
  7. Wrote a job application. Probably asked for too much objectively, but since I'd be working for Satan, I had to put a little bit extra there. Extrapolation: Absolutely hate writing job applications, especially in a small country with few lawyers it's an exercise in mind-reading.
  8. He's not quite so "small" even if he is only around 7 months old... Awwwwwwwwww. Meanwhile, I made an official offer to buy an apartment. Haven't heard back yet, and the offer's valid until saturday noon, so I might find myself twiddling my thumbs here for a day or two.
  9. Stole off a couple of hours from work to do a little DXHR. Still loving it, but for some reason I'm having a lot more difficulties stealthing than on the first run. Also keep missing vents for some reason.
  10. Has fallout 4 even been announced? (I think that answers your question)
  11. Mmh, I think that's the way they explain the above phenomenon. They think I'm looking for their job! FWIW, I'm talking about legal jobs. They're hiring people who've done **** all in the way of professional development since graduating in the late 90s... so what they're gonna get is probably reliable (but there's a reason they've left their old job) but almost definitely not capable of out-of-the-box thinking or necessarily even with the theoretical aspects of law to a greater degree (and trust me, it does come useful occasionally). I'd seek to build a mix of experience and vision - which they're not trying. I realise that comes off as a bit narcissist, but I think I have a fairly correct view of my capabilities as a jurist, based on past work performance and the feedback received for it.
  12. Yes I am in same boat And it's rational, I guess. If they hire a bunch of mediocrities, they know that they won't be fired and have some young guy replace them for 10-15% less.
  13. I've been having some trouble finding steady work, since I'm apparently "overqualified". Which doesn't mean that you're too good for the job, it means that you might be better at your future superior's job than he is.
  14. Kershner passed away last November.
  15. Doesn't everybody have one?
  16. notsureifserious.jpg "the bolds are mine" means that the quoted text wasn't originally bolded, but the bolding was done by the author.
  17. Mmh, mostly agree, in fact I consider the '97 special editions to rather uniformly be an upgrade. Post episode 1-3 changes have generally been My issue with said scene is that in the dvd version I have, it was a really ugly edit - it just looks weird. Haven't seen if they've updated that (and the Jabba scene), as haven't picked the BD up yet.
  18. The upcoming DLC is stand-alone and can't be played as a part of the OC. MEH!
  19. I call this the sandcastle vs. sandbox phenomenon. I prefer sandcastles.
  20. I dunno, while I consider a fit naked brunette bringing me breakfast to bed the ultimate wake-up, getting my face licked by a goggie sure beats any mechanical ringing.
  21. There are some things that have been left intentionally vague for the moment regarding the conspiracy. , which is obviously being saved for something. Now the interesting part is if it's going to be an expansion or a sequel...
  22. Meh, it's setting up the DX1 conspiracy and IMO does it in an interesting way. I guess it's back to the DA2 argument. "Dis not epic enuff!"
  23. Otoh, one also learns to assume things: like the fact that the people around you are semi-literate morons and can't be depended on. :I (FWIW, I served in the HQ company. Lawyers, engineers and a bunch of (other) guys too dangerous to themselves and people on their own side to be let to the front. ) (edit: hah, late typo edit, because i could!)
