Mass Effect is a very good game, just get the XBox 360 version. Its less buggy and doesn't have SecuROM. Don't forget the even-suckier-than-PC combat system. That's a solid selling point... Or the fact that the mako controls worse.

It seemed like a pretty typical trailer to me. They showed some NPCs giving speeches, *some* combat (they've been showing off the mass battle scene in almost every official trailer anyway), some NPC interaction. Calling it a "violence" trailer doesn't change the actual content, which is nothing out of the ordinary for game trailers. They did push the point by having a special-made bloody EA logo and ending it with a dragon-like blood splatter. As for an interesting trailer I always liked the Dead Space "lullaby" trailer, too bad the game was a 12-hour snorefest... Dead Space was a fine action game. Just not a good horror one. And I believe you can hear the lullaby in the bridge elevator.

The trick is to know nothing about the characters/story. For me it was just a bunch of dudes/chicks saying LotR stuff. Ignorance FTW! Exactly. When I heard there were spoilers, I was like, "oh really?"

Ummm how was The Sims not a critical success as well? Hell DA:O is right in line with industry trends. I would be shocked if it wasnt a critical success.

Well Bioware is better techwise then Obsidian ever were. Still it is a WRPG.

Ummm... We have that already, it's called The Witcher... Which will have better writing I wonder... I havent been impressed with Bio's writing on a game as a complete work since BG II. They have been using the same archetypes since then with a few deviations each game.

The trailer was cut by someone who didnt know the first thing about camerawork or editing. Also that "romance" scene was puke worthy. Could Bioware get more shallow in that respect?

Oh there is plenty wrong with the engine, starting with the horrible camera and the fact that its a grade A system hog. There are engines that look tons better out there yet dont need near as powerful a system to run. Hell, The Witcher runs on the same engine and takes about the same power, yet it looks a **** ton better in pretty much all areas.

The first one failing was as much the fault of Ubisoft as it was the game's. They sacrificed BG&E by releasing SoT at the same point and putting all their marketing behind that game. After King Kong (which only came to be because Jackson was a fan of BG&E) and the creation of the Rabbids, which lead to three million sellers and a hot new franchise, I think Ancel is getting to do his thing. Especially since it seems they are getting a new engine out of it.

They had it in KotOR II as well but it only happened once during the surprise attack over Onderon. And it made sense then.

is you changing overland map too? fine... end up with fo:t. vehicles moved you faster than foot and cut down on chances o' being attacked. sure didn't seem to add ... and don't get us started on the problems with forcing characters to bake bread. some anachronisms should be left to die, molder and be forgotten. HA! Good Fun! Unless its an Ultima game. I expect it then.

Exactly. Using vehicles as a mere alt to fast travel is a waste. Though a good Mad Max game would be excellent.

The sections in HL2 were linear areas made for those vehicles though (and plenty of people dont like them). Having them work in an open wasteland seems a tad more complicated, especially since they would be for general transportation and not just the next segment of a level.
