I'm under the impression that no one really knows where any of it is. (that's not to say its not in someone's upstairs closet in an old box of floppies and HDs, but I really doubt that Bethesda got it.)

I never laughed so hard in that one as when I polymorphed a certain NPC into a squirrel, only to have that squirrel burst into a 7' werewolf a minute later.

I have a question for Lexx... (coming from a guy that has used the F2 editor, and seen the sprite animation sets...) I was wondering why take the recolor route (though it absolutely has its uses), instead of the route done with Fallout 2 ~Namely Vic, and the Boxer, and the black skirted blonde woman... I have not tried this myself, but I wonder if after measuring up a weeks work recoloring, against a weeks work rigging a model (one that would render out at ~what 70x35?)... For non PC's, would it not give the same results, only allow you to do one set, then render the motions from six sides. [and later recoloring and minor changes would become trivial.] **Might even be possible to texture a plane with the weapon art and have the sprite use the gun. *** Eh... sort of like this in a way (but not quite).. Rendered out that small.. most couldn't tell that he wasn't holding it. There was a neat tool this guy wrote years ago that made BAMs out of GIFs... Could this be done for Fallout FRMs? (if it were, it might make future custom sprites a relative cinch.)

I would love to see a PLanescape sequel, but not in this environment, or by any current studios that I know of. There was a fan-made 3d effort going on, but I think it collapsed ~though they did release a gameplay video ~Found it... Its a module *Comes with a website too... www.planescapetrilogy.com **And a download link... http://www.roguedao.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1664 Agreed & Agreed.

Diablo 3 Disciples 3 Avernum 6 Rage *Its too bad about Brutal Legend... It looks fantastic and I've watched it for some time... ~But what doesn't sell for PC, I don't buy.

Awesome/interesting games no one has heard of
Gizmo replied to Purkake's topic in Computer and Console
Nocturne (by Terminal Reality.)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nocturne_(video_game) I was about to post this one So... Death Gate http://www.answers.com/topic/death-gate Awesome game (absolutely love it), I have two game CD's and that amazing SSI demo cd from the Interplay anthology. (amazing because somebody accidentally dragged the source code for the game into the demo folder before sending it off to be duplicated ). DOSBOX supports IPX netplay ~So you can indeed play Blood & Magic on a LAN, or through Hamachi. *Also (I wonder what really happened...) The demo shipped with the opening cinematic ~But the retail game did not (and if you copy the video file to the retail game folder ~the game plays it at the start as intended). I believe [iIRC] that it was THE first RTS with a fully 3d landscape. (and is in my top 5 favorite games.) ** Also Startopia. (IE. DungeonKeeper2 in Space ) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StarTopia -
Sands of time ~stillArx Fatalis, StoneKeep. (just started both) *Edit: Downloading Geneforge 5 as I type http://www.spiderwebsoftware.com/geneforge5/index.html

Brian Fargo created a new "the Bard's Tale" game... since he'd only acquired the name itself... It could not be a sequel except in name only. The next game is Wasteland 2, this time I truly hope for a spot on sequel.

IMO the one that shovels the hype should be on the hook for it, and setting expectation within the bounds of what's possible ~is not setting too high. ~They just let us down. *They didn't let everyone down, just those that expected significant game improvements.
-
I take it that you played the hell out of System shock, then System shock 2; Greatly anticipated Bioshock as a game of the same vein (not same vain), and felt really let down by it and it's forecast future. *Not so much that it was not fun ('cuz it was)... just that it was a heaping mound of untapped potential ~wasted (and shouldn't have been). **Classic short sightedness. Like the "tomb raider, that grabs the idol, and runs with it ~overlooking the treasury to be had beyond the next wall".

Very possible. cool. (that's one and counting...)

Nobody is saying that, it was just Brother None's sarcasm. Read Hurlshot's post. It may indeed be a good summary of what happened here (I don't know)... but it was not deliberate action. I dunno if most here know... but when I mentioned Press demo emissaries, it was reference to BN's exploits a few years ago, when he went personally [with valid credentials] to a Bethesda press demo, to get a first look at Fallout3. Afterward there was a photo of him taken, hand over brow, and kinda depressed looking.
-
NMA does not send out emissaries (except to press demos ) If anything, NMA members are interested in all things fallout, and gravitate anywhere that talks about it. Its expected that opinions will clash, but its not some planned agenda.

Yeah, oversimplification makes everything so much easier. "Uh, I'm looking for a water chip/holy GECK, have you seen one?" See, I can do it too! One line out of context for each, and its true, there is not much difference, but when examined in context, you find that the FO3 line is typical of the whole, while the FO1/2 line is not. If you want to compare dialog and plot then compare them, don't cherry-pick single lines that best suit your point. FO1 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0134648/quotes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallout_(video_game)#Plot FO2 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0183066/quotes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallout_2#Plot FO3 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1073664/quotes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallout_3#Plot This you just saw in the posts above, and done well too.

Thanks.. This is the game sprite... And an alternate texture... I dunno 'fer sure just yet... but this is what I'd point to... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2kNTGYdKu8 The first two (as with Fallout 1 & 2), were 3d models rendered as 2d sprites, on a 2d battlefield. If Bethesda had taken this approach... I'd not need another game for years. : : (which is perhaps... why the big studios don't often make games with this approach )
-
I just laughed... hard! Have you played any recent sequels/remakes to old franchises that are 10x their original!? Please point me to this latest game! No actually ; I've long since given up on recent titles, but bought FO3 for use of the GECK. The engine is great, and the land is awesome... (but I still think the art design was better in FO1, the heads were better IMO ~despite the 229 color limit and the fact that they had to take the 3d models and render them out as still frames). ~and I would have preferred the Mr. Handy droids to look a bit more like this... And the Enclave to look more like this...

Uh, in F1 (I love this game, but I have to make this point) the game often wouldn't even acknowledge your choices. I think people remember the awesome slideshow ending of F1 and how it talked about the consequences of your actions, then play Fallout 3 which removed the slideshows and somehow twist this into a situation where Fallout 1 & 2 had these incredible changes to your actions and F3 was completely devoid of it. F3 often gave as many options to sidequests, but it lacked the slideshow at the end (a big mistake which Beth deserves crit for) to show a lasting consequence. I agree the Slideshow should have been implemented and the player's actions tracked and given consequence. There is (rightly) a sliding scale at work with the comparisons though... Fallout 1 was built to run on a Pentium 90MHz system with 16MB ram. FO3 was built to use as machine with 32x the ram and 30x the MHz (though there is more to it than the numbers). FO3 should have been 10x the game in every respect, but its not and was never intended to be.
-
Its true, there are fans that find what they enjoyed of it in Fallout 3, but the fans they made FO1 for don't find much... The game series was to be the best implementation of on the PC (and though Steve Jackson ultimately pulled the license, they kept it fairly close though they changed the system a bit). The Fallout series depicts a PNP RPG as though played with miniatures. Where is that in FO3? (and the combat was for sake of the system, not to simulate first person gunfights ~the combat system is gone as well). The game also featured a bit more consequence to player choice in just about everything (and did not erase your mistakes and experiments after 3 days). The only thing they got right IMO is the landscaping and clutter ~That part of FO3 is superb, the rest is forgettable

Maybe in magic land where opinions become facts. I actually had more *gasp!* FUN in Fallout 3 than I did in Fallout 2. Is fun one of the things that counts? This is why I get so defensive over Fallout 3. Teh hataz speak as if Fallout 3 sucking is a stone cold fact. Obviously someone who enjoyed the game is some sort of mental inferior in their early teens. FO3 is fun (very fun at times) ~but its the wrong kind of fun (and not a worthy substitute IMO, given the context). Imagine if the next season of MONK were to see him develop psychic powers and use kungfu with hadouken blasts... That'd be fun right? (it would actually... but the wrong kind, and the kind that ruins the show really).
-
Hardly.. If given the absolute choice of FO2 vs FO3, FO2 wins hands down on all that counts. Lol, what? Did you actually fund the development cycle of FO3 when I wasn't looking? Because it sure sounds like you feel you've been cheated out of something. If you've been let down on your expectations, well. Bethy can't very well control that. And no, I'm pretty sure that neither FO3 was designed as it was to spite you old timers, nor those that do enjoy the game do so for that reason. Old timers ~does that mean you are a child? I find that most "whippersnappers" tend to eschew and deride what they are unable to appreciate. It really does appear that they "need" to revel in the "new", because they view themselves as new, and can't accept that anything that pre-dates their arrival could be somehow better, (as if it might cast a bad reflection on themselves if it were). Doing things purely for money sake is not good justification (unless you plan to justify most wars as well.)
-
Understand that the Bethesda devs have stated on their forum that during development, they had an internal thread entitled "Cool $#@! that you'd like in the game". (or near abouts)... This notion of tacking on stuff that strikes their fancy is quite true.
-
No. People should have their fun, but not at our expense (our 10 years expense) ~the fan acceptance is the value of the franchise, without it... what's the point?. Fun is a good thing but some just don't appreciate the damage (or care)... That is the truth, and I personally hold Interplay to blame for foolishly not attaching a few strings to the deal (in the way of guidelines mandates).I hold Beth [management] to blame ~for seemingly not giving a damn, and butchering the cow for its horns. **Edit: That's the best review I've read on the game. Those that would call it bias, are invited to depute any point mentioned in it.
-
"Fourthed" Great games both, I had a blast with them ~except for one very irksome annoyance... The combat AI can see you anywhere on the board. You can have most of your party hidden on the opposite side of a twisting canyon, and if your thief gets spotted on the other side (but escapes & hides)... Every enemy marches "conga-style" through the entire canyon all the way to your hidden alcove where your mages are.

How many alien blaster cells do you have? I've got a gun mod that I made that uses them in a oversized "alien steampunk" rifle, for 125 per shot/per cell ~so it eats ammo fast, but packs a punch. Its plausible to find it on the Mothership ~given it's name and it's history. (on the PC, just type " player.additem 0100154D, 1 " in the console to get it in inventory. ) http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7751

Epic as Great Wall of text, or inflammatory debates? Either? I got a rise out of several when I questioned whether I was explaining my points effectively and should I expand my posts I have been know to post seven paragraph posts, but I try never to put-down or insult those I reply to.
