  1. Because peace games tend to be dull? And actually participating in war is dangerous? If they make good on their claims of authenticity beyond a superficial MW fashion, I think the game sounds good.
  2. Only if it were written in the fictional language the game used.
  3. It would definitely keep with the variety approach they used in the first game.
  4. Okay, I'm officially impressed. The story, while not particularly remarkable, has some cool sequences. Graphics are good and the environment is suitably moody. Platforming is okay, investigation stuff is cool but brief, stealth is good. The combat gets its own paragraph, because it's simple yet amazingly fun. I was a little skeptical at first, but once you get a bunch of enemies attacking and you literally turn into a whirlwind of fists and feet it's pretty damn satisfying. There is a little bit of enemies waiting their turn, but not as much as in the AC games. The tail ends of moves can be truncated, leading to a more frantic pace and creating a visually impressive "how the hell did Batman get there?" effect.
  5. I told myself I'd get Batman once steam had a crazy sale, and that time may have arrived.
  6. I would agree that there's a stronger team aspect, though it depends on your definition of "really enjoy." I'm pretty hooked on the beta, and my usual partner-in-crime is still busy playing through AC2. Going for the unlocks is pretty addictive, and adds a long-term structure to the experience. Also, personally, I find the increased lethality in BC2 over other BF titles makes the core gunplay more satisfying as its own end. Moreover, you can get a pretty good run going as a squad even with random pubbers, provided they're the right ones. The game allows you to spawn on *any* squad member, rather than just the leader or a beacon. This can lead to some ridiculous Smith-fight like situations, but it also allows you to keep a strategic action going without an entire squad of medics. It's gamey for sure, but has its moments.
  7. So, I just beat the game, and it's probably the first game in history where you can And it's awesome.
  8. The death monologues are more like 15 seconds now. There are future segments, but I've only encountered 2 so far after doing way more historical missions than that.
  9. I suppose it really depends on how much you care about the AC story. As somebody who's usually all about story, the story in the AC1 pretty much felt like a way to get from point A to point B. I haven't finished AC2 yet, but I get a similar impression there. It's not bad, but it doesn't necessarily suck me in, nor do I find myself pondering it much when I'm not playing the game. I give them credit for trying something fairly different, at least.
  10. Well, personally, I am much more interested in BC2 than MW2 (heck, not even sure I'll get MW2). It seems to offer the same basic infantry combat, yet has vehicles, environmental destruction, and dedicated servers on top of that. Moreover, none of the additions seem to heinously unbalance the core infantry combat. Most people are still running around on foot in the beta, and there are usually tanks sitting unused, which was unheard of in BF2. That said, I think for somewhat mysterious reasons neither the critics nor the massive IW fanbase will see it that way when it releases. Maybe they don't like getting owned by a tank (never mind MW2's AC-130 kill streak), or there's too much traveling to get to the fight, or it doesn't cater to the gear queer with tons of weapon attachments. I think with some fixes BC2 may *deserve* to be considered the definitive multiplayer military shooter, though I don't think it will be received as such by most.
  11. Dedicated Servers will no doubt be huge, in an era of PC shooters that seem to think it's unimportant. I'm withholding judgment on the balance of the rogue class thus far. Flanking is pretty effective, though the ghillie suit used by the recon class seems kind of wasted in the desert and without prone. I did satchel a couple of crewed tanks as assault though, which felt pretty sneaky.
  12. So, I checked out the beta today and it has promise. Good environment, decent shooting, and impressive destruction. I find playing FPS with a console controller hopelessly awkward, but once I got past that I enjoyed myself. Moving around and picking people off is satisfying, and the overall atmosphere feels pretty much like a war movie. I will definitely be interested when it releases, but definitely PC version for me.
  13. Any kind of massed infantry is susceptible to indirect fire, whether arty or mortar. There's also traps if you expect them to take a certain route. Finally, last time I played zookas didn't have quite the range of mounted guns. You are unlikely to ever obliterate a blob entirely, but if he's relying on it and you force them to retreat the field is yours until he gets back.
  14. I'd just like to stop in to lol at IW. Modders have hacked in dedicated server function and lean. You know why it was so easy for them? Because the engine already had those capabilities from CoD4. MW2 PC is the new definition of backwards game design.
  15. Personally, I think it's fine. I'd rather have to use nuanced timing than God of War-style deliberate button mashing. The point I'm trying to make is that the people who hated the first game's combat will probably hate AC2's combat.
  16. Actually they made it so that the counters you pull off can be dodged, you can be countered, and there are uncounterable opponents (the weapon used is so friggin big you couldn't counter it effectively). That's my definition of "occasionally throwing a curve your way, but nothing too huge." I didn't want to tell people how to play the game in my post since that might take away what few surprises the combat has in store for them. Oh well, here goes. Your counters didn't necessarily kill in the first game either, and you could be countered. People still bitched about the combat. Brutes can be countered, you just have to do so empty-handed.
  17. IO Interactive is, supposedly. I haven't seen any real info about it yet tho.
  18. So far, I'm not sure whether the sequel will necessarily change most peoples' minds who didn't like the first at all. They took complaints about the mission structure to heart, and the social stealth is handled much better IMO. That said, in combat it's still fairly possible to counter-kill your way through an army. The game will occasionally throw a curve your way, but nothing too huge. That may be just enough for the skeptics to feel like they're actually "playing" the combat this time around, or it may not. Personally, I'm enjoying the heck out of it with what I've had a chance to play so far. Though I'm unsure whether it will convert haters to the cause, it's a worthy sequel in its own right.
  19. Yep, PC version is later. Just picked up my copy for PS3, definitely looking forward to it. Then again, I like the first one too.
  20. I finally got around to digging into Men of War awhile ago, and was quite impressed. Your soldiers can take corner cover, gears of war style, and that's good because the lethality is through the roof. There are edges around which the game is rough, but overall I like. Will probably pick up the sequel/expansion someday.
  21. I actually did a rogue with around 17 str and it worked okay in the endgame on normal. Dex was the highest stat, leading to a respectable defense rating with +def items. I also put a fair amount into willpower so I could use abilities while dueling & momentum were active. Lastly, I applied the unofficial dagger bug fix, so that might've skewed things in favor of my dex build.
  22. Possibly, though I thought "realistic" mode made enemies die quicker as well. I could be wrong, since I didn't play any other difficulties at length.
