Questionable quality of Obsidian boards
Sarjahurmaaja. replied to Nissa_Red's topic in Obsidian General
Gromnir says more intelligent stuff than 95% of the members of these forums. Volourn is safe to ignore. It is recommended that you ignore Sarge. -
"I wanna see a fully fledged armed to the teeth pred alien come to maturity. It is easily the most dominant species in AvP2, I mean, I was able to take out three preds all gunning for me within seconds. One of them shot five f*cking spears that were all a DIRECT HIT and it didn't even phase me. I just hacked them to pieces, and dined on their flesh to replenish my health." Ah, but can it take a shot from the DISC?

I'd imagine having multiple processors is closer to it, but if you say so...

Widescreen monitor support!

No, I was sort of wondering why you said what you said. -
"How many of you tech heads are excited about Nvidias new announcemenr? The one that showed you can connect and run 2 video cards simultaneously for better performance." It speaks volumes that by Voodoo 3 cards, 3dfx had abandoned dual cards...

Old enough to predate 3d cards.

ATI used to be a little player? Maybe in 3d accelerator market, but definately not in the graphic card business as a whole... That is, when those two things were still somewhat separate.

All games should. -
I'd say Putin is the best thing that has happened to Russia in way too many years. Whether or not this is a good thing, I don't know.

"Sounds more like you want a FPS though than an RPG sequel. It's unlikely they will change the format of the game too much in the sequel. It will probably use the same engine (with improvements implemented by BioWare)." Only thing that hints to FPSs in my post is the appreciation of visual and aural quality, which the RPG fans seem to lack. Neither of the suggestions has any radical effect on the format. I saw no point in asking for either more dialogue options, better story, more meaningul character interaction or the like, since those will certainly be asked for several times in this thread. I'm trying to bring up the less often discussed, but still important issue of immersion: How am I supposed to feel like a badass jedi when I'm using a glowing stick to fight a few bums equipped with toy guns?

"90% of gamers are incredibly brainless and have no roleplaying skills. they want blank characters, not complex characters with past backgrounds. and this is the major complaint about planescape torment." That's bull. No need to spew elitist garbage here. Major complaints were the lack of character generation, the lack of half-decent combat, general weirdness and the unbelievable amount of text that made Torment feel more like an interactive book than a game. I loved that damn book, by the way.

My humble two cents: 1. Saber dismemberment. I want to cut arms, legs and heads off my enemies and use those parts as improvised weaponry. I want to cut them in two and watch them fall apart in slow motion. Also, I want them to try to do the same to me. 2. Guns with balls. I want to see guns that look, sound and are really big, mean and nasty. I want to incinerate my enemies with flamethrowers, blow them apart with huge rapid fire rocketlaunchers and make swiss cheese out of their bodies with minigun-like laser cannons. And I want my neighbours to hears this from my 5.1. surround system.

I go with the Lord of the Rings. Star Wars has always been just entertainment for me (which isn't a bad thing, though).

I was told I'd get to visit exotic places, experience foreign cultures and meet new people - and make a small fortune while at it. Bastards.

LOSE THE F^_^ING CUT SCENES

"If Obsidian's success is not their responsibility, then their happiness is not Obsidian's responsibility. Obsidian's responsibility is to create a game that is fun to play, and if they are smart businessmen and women, they will tap into an already successful niche, rather than try for a whole new niche in an effort to try to appease a whole new group of players." Whoever said Obsidian's responsibility was the happiness of a few geeks voicing their opinions in Obsidian's forums? Obsidian is here to make money with their products. "Obsidian's responsibility is to create a game that is fun to play, and if they are smart businessmen and women, they will tap into an already successful niche, rather than try for a whole new niche in an effort to try to appease a whole new group of players. The idea is to not lose the fan base you get with the first game - which, let's face it, if this is KOTOR 2 with new Characters, the only reason to call it KOTOR 2 is to appeal to the fans of KOTOR 1, even though the stories are unrelated." It's not my business to run Obsidian Entertainment. I don't need to take into consideration my idea's possible effect on sales when I make a suggestion. I don't work at Obsidian. Neither do you, so cut the sales crap, because it's none of mine or your business. "So yes, I am telling the non-Kotor fans to shut up, but only in KOTOR threads, because what they want does not fit what players of the original KOTOR expect, and it would be a HUGE gamble to possibly disenfranchise an already established player base." Unless you're working for Obsidian, you really shouldn't give a damn. And I bet you don't, you're just trying to use the sales argument to support your own opinions. Too bad I don't care. "Then again, I do not mistake you for being a smart businessman. Or even smart." Boohoo, I think I'll go cry in the bathroom now. Not. I'm allowed to express my opinions here without taking into account the monetary interests of Obsidian Entertainment. Don't like it? Tough. Oh, and just to be clear: I DO NOT WORK FOR OBSIDIAN! I DON'T HAVE TO GIVE A s*** IF THEIR NEW GAME SELLS ONLY THREE COPIES! -
But Star Trek really does suck! Big time, too.
-
Finally this thread is getting somewhere! Well, seriously, Star Trek sucks. Oh, wait, more seriously: In one movie, a guy gets hit by a lightsaber, in a place where he has armor, and doesn't get hurt. In two other movies, the same guy gets hit by a lightsaber in an unarmored spot. He gets badly injured. Why do people cling to the one time where he wasn't hurt, and say: "OMG! It's teh FOerce!!1", when there are other probable reasons why he wasn't hurt that time, like the armor. Why was he hurt in the other movies, where there was no armor to protect him, but he still had the Force? Seriously, Star Trek sucks.

"As for the "he lost it in RotJ", he was also weakened and at that time Luke had the upper hand, instead of desperately trying not to get his ass kicked in ESB (where he wasn't a full jedi when he took Vader on, as opposed to RotJ where he was)" Luke didn't receive any further training as a jedi between ESB and RotJ. Why are you so desperate to proove that it was Force that saved Vader? It sure as hell didn't save him or Kenobi in AotC, it didn't save Darth Maul from Obi-Wan in Phantom Menace. Also, why are jedis using their lightsabers to deflect blaster shots when they could just take the hit and say "pwn3d, n00b!" before hacking the gunslinger to bits?

LOSE THE F^_^ING CUT SCENES

"You will NOT be able to make everyone happy." They're not trying to make everyone happy. They're trying to make themselves happy. It is not their business whether or not Obsidian Entertainment makes loads of cash. They're telling the people at Obsidian what they want to see, not what they think others like. Obsidian's success is not their responsibility. "Granted, we do not know what the game in development is right now, but I think that those who don't want KOTOR 2, or want to change it into something non-KOTOR if it is indeed that, should not post in the KOTOR-themed threads - leave that be for the fans who think this is KOTOR 2, and are eagerly awaiting a sequel." You are doing exactly the same thing as they are: trying to get Obsidian make the game you want. Too bad you're telling them to shut up, because what they're requesting isn't what you want. Fans shouldn't get any special privileges. -
"Lukes sabre punched a hole in an ATAT... I'm thinking it's more than simply armor." Did you notice that no one else was shown to wear armor like that, and how little even Vader was wearing? Some strong, rare, lightsaber resistant metal*, perhaps? It couldn't be Force, since it didn't stop Vader's arm get cut off twice. By the way, weren't you the one saying that lightsabers didn't seem to be all that powerful? * Not cortosis, though. It's supposed to short out a lightsaber's circuitry, causing the blade to shut off. Perhaps Bioware copied Raven's implementation of cortosis from Jedi Knight II?
-
Maybe it's easier for a force user since he isn't as likely to cut off his own legs when practicing with the lightsaber? "Besides, they aren't all that powerful, look at episode 2, the most Obi-wan got were two scars. And in ESB Vader took a hit to the shoulder and didn't lose any extremeties." Vader had armor on his shoulders. The hit was obviously deflected by the armor.

I find isometric view to be an immersion killer. Since RPGs are all about immersion, it's quite strange that so many gamers like the isometric view as much as they do.
