  1. Yeah that was definitely true in the pre-Trump era but things seem a leeeetle bit different now. At least to a degree. I remember actually watching the Bush-Kerry debate and they seemed all buddy buddy like "whoever wins, we're both financially covered by the same peeps, keep on keepin' on bro!"
  2. It would have to be some kind of Battle Royale on an island in todays climate.
  3. I blame Trump, he woke The Dragon. As long as Fortnite turns Kajillions every year, Epic can gut itself with losses until the tide finally turns. It's strange because Sweeney is worth double that of Gabe Newell, yet Newell has a more robust history and more celebrity status in the gaming community.
  4. Eh, Gen-Y has many virtues (courage, community consciousness, respectfulness, etc) but artistic creativity/reflection/originality are not any of them. Remember, gaming/movies/art are hobbies and of secondary importance to matters of real life, so where one generation thrives off of the philosophy of entertainment and consumption, the subsequent generation will thrive off of primary concerns like, you know, the world around them.
  5. It's generational. Millennials are the most unreflective non-critical generation in recent memory who consume things without second guessing, and they are the current generation. Which is why a lot of older people like Sawyers/Obsidians generation often feel frustrated with their work not selling well, the gaming community has moved past the times where their design philosophy was the standard. I guess once Gen-Z comes of age things may improve again, so perhaps in 10 years or so things will bounce the other way again.
  6. Yes. If they only made the game a leeeeeettle more complex it would have been a game of the ages. But then again Prey was a little more complex and look how well that sold.
  7. Yeah that's about a normal opinion for someone "not on either side" Life experience usually tilts peoples opinions one way or another, and then you got those fakes just trying to be "cool". Based off of my life experience...SCREW WHITEY
  8. Suddenly I feel like a silly manwhore from New England surrounded by a bunch of grizzled veterans. Ciao xD
  9. @Guard Dogwas a Marine?? Learn something new every day. But yes my irrelevant opinion is that the Marine Corps should stay and island hopping force but then again with modern air technology that may even be antiquated at this point. I'm curious to how modern technology would play out in a full scale war these days because my brain seems to think that WW2 was the last possible war that was possible w/o destroying the entire earth.
  10. There's priorities, I truly admire anyone who can make do on rusty hardware.
  11. https://asiatimes.com/2021/05/australias-china-war-drums-more-sound-than-fury/ Rock/Hard place Australia also did a great piece on China recently
  12. Perhaps, but I'm looking at this from an American lens. The last time the U.S. delved into public works was during the New Deal era, and at that particular time the business community was shunned and belittled and most Americans blamed them (probably correctly) for the 1929 stock market crash. So to me this seems like a synthesis between The New Deal and the Reagan counter-revolution corporatism of the 1980's. It's a good start mechanically, now we just need someone to champion the culture aspect (workers rights, minority rights, ect) and I think we'll do well going forward.
  13. Trickle down economy worked for two reasons: A general mood shift towards entrepreneurship in the 1980's The U.S. economy getting a massive lift post Cold War (And it was already pretty massive before that). However we are slowing down now and both Keynesian economics of the 1930's-70's and the now Reaganomics of 1980's-2020 are a thing of the past. The U.S. is now moving towards an Industrial style economy like the EU and Asia. What's funny is that nobody seems to notice but our current administrations policies are going to have seismic shifts in the economy in the years ahead, yet it's being done subtly.
  14. I dunno it's just the levels and the atmosphere and the music sucked me in perfectly for 'Blood Money'. And the fact that you can customize your weapons was the coup de grace, along with the newspaper grading at the end of each mission. WoA has better graphics and more kill options and I've spent tons of hours on 'The Finish Line' mission alone. Quality vs. quantity I guess
  15. https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2021/05/01/columbus-police-protests-ruling/?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=wp_main Some good news. Left wing sentiment appears to be winning out. So we can't be compared to 1920's-30's Germany where right wing sentiment was clearly winning out among state officials. Slowly, day by day, I feel a bit more relieved. Kinda waiting around for some kind of climax sucks though.
  16. A lot of economists are paid shills who have a habit saying things are grand and dandy....until things turn out not so grand and dandy, then they change their tune However, everyone besides woods dwellers and some partisan Republicans seem to be on board with Biden's infrastructure bill. When even private businesses agree to pay a little more in taxes to support public works that will probably help them in the long run, I'd say the argument is settled.
  17. It pays for itself once completed. Buffing infrastructure and technology generates long term revenue and income which generates taxes. The EU and East Asia are way ahead of the game here, and it looks like the U.S. is finally catching up, just like they finally outlawed slavery in 1865.
  18. He wouldn't align with libertarian views if he didn't slay taxes. Cut him some slack. Personally, I think state sponsored projects and businesses and other things like state lottery are the best ways to generate state revenue, along with a modest taxation. However, letting businesses run wild like....The Wild West is stupid.
  19. It scored a 7.8 on IMDB which is like the gaming Metracritic equivalent to a 9.x (lol) so it's probably not all that bad. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0499549/ I saw it once in the theater and remember walking out thinking it was pretty good but standard modern fare entertainment. The Aliens references were cool though. We don't really live in times of cultural originality so you kind of gotta take what you can get. My personal opinion is that Cameron hasn't made a stellar movie since Aliens. Terminator 1 and Aliens are near the top of my "awesome" list.
  20. Nu centrism! Socially liberal but fiscally conservative. I mean Trump did promise to rebuild roads and infrastructure on his campaign trail did he not? He never got around to that because he was too busy stupidly denigrating the EU and East Asia, and also, to be fair, fending off stupid Russiagate charges. Trump has always been a ball of hot air but viciously attacking China has made it into the bipartisan consensus, which I do not think is 100% fair because it's anti-competitive. Make it happen America, I wouldn't mind if both the left and right are pro spending as long as goes into benefitting the population as whole, and I'm glad to see Biden's infrastructure package, but someone really needs to tilt the balance on cultural issues towards the left and I mean for realz. EDIT: What's hilarious is that a lot of these government projects being proposed are being supported by the business community! Strange times indeed when capitalists and public works officials are working hand in hand.
  21. Visible government, invisible business community. 'Tis a good leftist philosophy in century 21 dontcha think? And yes, modern Republicans are basically the Confederate Party, as their base are a good chunk white and racist. I'm assuming you've seen the flags at the capitol storm?
  22. Good. They are the Confederate Party and should be lost, or at least marginalized to tertiary status. I wouldn't mind them being denigrated to having like 25% at most power in congress, but we would need a 3rd party for that. One that's socially leftist but fiscally a bit more conservative than that of Democrats.
