I didn't played it (because I don't want to spend money on a game that might be ****ty FPS) and you don't want to tell my why it is better than any other FPS. Guess I will never find out then. What's there to tell? Some experiences aren't to be told. You have to play it. Besides, it's very cheap at this point. What I liked on the top of my head? Very thorough setting and believable level design, above average AI, very good punch and physicality to the combat, fantastic soundtrack, very diverse places to visit, overall very well paced. The whole thing just feels "right". Yeah sorry I didn't summon some voodoo numbers out of my hat, this has to suffice for starters.

Crysis was a sandbox generic mess, Crysis 2 was a linear arcade shooter....and not. What's an arcade shooter? Aren't these things extinct a long time ago, except in Japan? Are you talking about sidescroller shooter? Maybe you should first learn to differentiate between the subgenres before using wrong terminology. Shooter is not just shooter.

Space Marine shooter? You mean Military shooter. Especially the annualised ones (Battlefield, MoH, CoD), those are the ones who are poison to the FPS genre. Yes, including RAGE from our "beloved" Doom and Quake creators. It's all garbage. Only worthwhile FPS creators out there these days are Valve, Crytek, and Irrational.

If the combat turns out to be a chore (all BioWare games), I prefer to play it on easy too, just to get over it quickly.

While the game looks great, the real meat, the much touted sandbox gameplay style will fall short again, thanks to ancient console hardware. I think we need to wait another couple of years till open-world game design that looks and runs sufficient will arrive with the Next-Gen consoles.

Crysis series is not "another ****ty" FPS. Feel free to go back and play another ****ty indie-dungein crawler/old-school RPG/whatever.

Those are PC screenshots btw. I expect the Next-Gen console graphic fidelity to produce similar results. Except, we PC elitists gamers can enjoy it far earlier!

Because the disappointment (anti-nostalgia-shock) will kick in immediately after you played a bit and sober you up like my grandma's Gulasch-cannon, and remind you how sucky Diablo 3 actually is. Then you'll go into the pub and get drunk, meet people who feel the same way as you, and then you decide to play together and have fun with the game again.

If I manage to get out 20 quality hours of Skyrim before I get bored, then I say it was already worth the money. If I manage to finish it, the better.

Dude, I played Demon's Souls, and it crushed my soul. Sleepless nights, angry outbursts....I'm just too old for this. I will not go through the same experience again, lest I have to fear for my health and sanity.

I finally gave in and bought Skyrim (yeah, I'm a latecomer). First impression is very positive so far, controls (at least with 360 pad) are very comfy. I think that game should keep me busy till the busy Autumn launches. Screw Diablo 3 and Dark Souls.

Question: Does the HighRes Texture pack on Steam make any difference? I look at those screenshots and hardly see any improvements. How's performance and loading times with the HD pack?
