  1. Make New Vegas more tight, but with more meaningful content. Many people these days only bother to play a game once, therefor it's important to count on everything on the first playthrough. Half the size of F3's world is more than plenty enough.
  2. Shogun, Medieval 1 and Rome. But stay away from Empire. For now.
  3. Well we can hope that Obsidian will port portions of it's scripting engine over to the F3 engine.
  4. Mass Effect isn't a good example of an action RPG because you spend most of your time watching Shepard talk to random NPCs after picking something on the dialogue wheel. I think only like 25% of the game was combat. A little off topic, but I can't believe I've had this account for all these years and never actually posted until yesterday. I'm the ultimate lurker. Well you're shooting Geth in the face so that's Action RPG to me. But hey, whatever. Just wanted to say that abstract game concepts can still be fun to play. Recently played Lost Odyssey (JRPG, turn based), and apart from the horrible boss fights I'm really enjoying that kind of games. So if they give me turn based combat and lots of numbers and items, I'll be a happy chap. But I also recognize that mostly western RPG developrs strive for the more "natural" Action approach. I.e. Realtime, "realims", no number crunching etc. That's okay as long as the story, C&C and characters are superb. I know that Obsidian will deliver on that front for sure.
  5. what the whut? i think your water's gone rad, lad. i didn't say they were PnP games. i said they're based off of, and a natural progression from. which...uh...they are, Vern. and yes, cRPG's do have saving and loading campaigns sure. i guess there's the unspoken and unwritten rule of making choices and living with the consequences. i only re-load if i've hit a button or done something by accident....never because i didn't like the outcome of something i did deliberately...otherwise, i don't see the fun in making choices at all. it's kinda cheating, idn't it? Well you're lamenting how CRPGs are straying from PnP games. Maybe the natural evolution of CRPGs takes them further and further away from the PnP experience. Can't stop nature man. Except that games don't have to adhere nature. But I'm not so picky on that issue. I can enjoy an Akshun RPG like Mass Effect as much as a turn-based hardcore RPG, as long as it is made well.
  6. No I don't think so. Beth acts as the producer/publisher, while they also have their own project (TES5?) going on. All creative duties should be in Obsidians hands.
  7. Inon Zur is overrated. He's not bad, but most of his music is unremarkable and forgetable.
  8. That's why I think it's unlikely he'll return for video games. Probably Jeremy Soule will do the job.
  9. When has Mark Morgan last time composed for games?
  10. That's just a breather, a similarly difficult fight awaits at the entrance of the Grand Staff. Yes I know what you mean - that gigantic worm! Yeez... I tried everything! But there's no way I can bring that bugger down. First kill is easy, but when he resurrects, he already uses a full charge immediately. That's just unfair. No matter what tactics I use, there's always that little bit too much that brings my party down. I'm no further wasting time on that game.
  11. Holy cow! Those models look pretty good. Damn you SEGA, damn you to hell! Interesting how Josh says "they're working on". So it isn't canceled?
  12. Hey, wasn't Van Buren set somewhere in Nevada?
  13. Absolutely true! Um, except a Fallout game with complex quests and dialogue, no randomly generated areas, set in a wild west casino town, has absolutely nothing to do with Stalker. Oh and did you get the memo? Stalker didn't invent the FPS-RPG hybrid genre. Stalker was an RPG? I took Stalker as an example because it also features a destroyed world. It's basically a FPS, and Fallout without VATS is also basically a FPS (combat wise).
  14. Is that confirmed? And who is this gentleman actually?
  15. If they drop VATS, it will just be a cheap and boring Stalker clone. Unless of course they also drop the firs person view, but I don't think Beth is gonna like that.
  16. A quarter as good as I'll feel when it actually ships. "actually ships" Now now, do I sense there a slight undertone of pessimism? What do you think about the estimated release schedule for 2010? Do you think (from where you're now) that's a fair amount of time to get a polished product shipped? (I don't expect a straight answer)
  17. Not very informative, but it's good to hear that the idea wasn't forced down Obsidian's throat.
  18. Okay, now I beat the dragon. Off to the Grand Staff!
  19. Bethesda destroyed Cthulhu? That's nonsense. And Beth is not your standard publisher, but also a developer, so that's a good thing. They care about Fallout, Obsidian cares about Fallout, therefor we, the customers, win. I'm also interested in the "Beth destroyed Call of Cthulhu" thing. They made it and it was buggy, but if they hadn't made it, it wouldn't have been made at all... Is there any official word on how this "partnership" works? If Obsidian gets to do what they want then I see good things in the future... Bethesda didn't make Cthulhu, that was some other studio that found itself unable to pull the **** together. They didn't develop the game. Headstrong Productions did and had made a far more in-depth gameplay until Bethesda demanded it to be simplified for the XBOX. I had whined about it years ago regarding of this, its not exactly new news. Whatever. This doesn't really affect New Vegas. Beth and Obz are pros, they don't need to bite each other. And if necessary, Ferg can always wield his mighty hammer of persuasion to get Todd and Hines back into lines. Don't underestimate the mighty power of Ferg!
  20. Playing some Lost Odyssey, and I'm already stuck at some dragon dude. I think I really suck when it comes to JRPGs.

  23. I don't know how easy it was, but Onyx most certainly is already built. Yes but unless they want New Vegas to go into a completely different direction I don't see how using it would be an advantage. With Fallout 3 framework, they've something to start with and can compile/test it on an established environment without hacking/programming all that stuff into Onyx again.
  24. Hmmm... but where? Here or over Beths place. Either, way, there will be some community interchanging. And some biting.
