  1. wat That was obviously not supposed to go in this topic. lol
  2. Speaking of coups...
  3. I think it was too complicated and crazy to be a setup. At one point, the higher ups of the Armed Forces were taken hostage by the coup-ers - supposedly because they were political appointees by Erdogan, and the original higher ups had been purged years earlier. So many bad things could've happened with just that - nevermind the idiots who were blowing up the Grand Assembly, the central lawmaking body in the country...and then with Erdogan trying to gain asylum in Germany and doing the face-time thing while still in his plane. It was just too chaotic and disorganized to be a setup, it seems to me.
  4. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/jul/16/fethullah-gulen-turkey-coup-erdogan "Fethullah Gülen: Turkey coup may have been 'staged' by Erdoğan regime" Erdogan blames Gulen, Gulen blames Erdogan. Hm.
  5. I have trouble hearing melancholy in any metal, personally...metal's too high-strung and energetic to be melancholy. But then again, I'm not really a metal person to begin with, so it goes without saying that my opinion on such...
  6. lovin' all these unsubstantiated claims about Trump's level of success or lack thereof from you guys Trump hasn't been very successful. Yes, he has. No, he hasn't. Yes, he has. No, he hasn't. Great stuff. As an aside, Trump has spent comparatively very little money on this election vs. Clinton so far. I think the last numbers I saw put Clinton at about 14-15 times as much as Trump (and she had spent somewhere around 50 million). (e): But on the other hand, I'm not sure what criteria those numbers were considering - looking here, where the numbers are completely different, it seems like Hillary has still vastly outspent Trump, but not quite to the effect of 15x as much.
  7. It seems as though the coup has definitively failed at this point, for anyone still wondering.
  8. The first one seems to be the most likely, currently, especially with his recent "statements" (aka lies) in mind.
  9. From the looks of things, it seems like pro-Erdogan forces are probably taking control of the situation, but it's tough to say. There's not too much of any information coming in, so I'm done for now. I will say that it seems like the things Erdogan is saying are baloney - from other reports, it seems like he's already been proven to be lying about the bombing of his hotel, and the Gulen thing seems like total absolute nonsense, too...so yeah, that's great.
  10. CNN Turkey is apparently back up and running. Erdogan says the hotel he was staying at before getting on his plane was bombed shortly after he left. I take this last one with a grain of salt.
  11. Erdogan, in a now live press conference, says military coup-ers are taking orders from a man named Fethullah Gülen, who currently lives in Pennslyvania... is this guy on crack cocaine
  12. http://www.nytimes.com/live/turkey-coup-erdogan/bomb-at-parliament-leaves-12-dead/ https://twitter.com/ekizilkaya/status/754114328735977472/photo/1 A press conference of Erdogan is being aired on a government TV channel, but apparently it is a past recording that is not live (and some people were confused about this, as they thought it was a live press conference). Erdogan has apparently been spotted at Istanbul's Airport, though: https://twitter.com/Breaking911/status/754119786657878016/photo/1 Helicopters still shooting at the Grand Assembly for some reason...
  13. "Huge explosion" in Ankara was just reported one minute ago. No images/video yet, though, if it's coming.
  14. Some pictures of the coup in action. Mostly clean - a tiny bit of blood in a couple of them, but no gore or anything. One might have a dead woman who's mostly covered up (again, no actual violent imagery), though. http://www.reuters.com/news/picture/military-attempts-coup-in-turkey?articleId=USRTSI6WR Allegedly, Erdogan's campaign manager, Erol Olçak, has been killed by the military, but I would take that with a grain of salt for the time being.
  15. Two other media publications in Turkey have been reportedly shut down by the military. Jets still flying low overhead in Istanbul. There has been some shooting in front of the CNN Turkey building. There's also a video of many mutilated corpses in front of an unspecified government building going around, but since it's obviously NSFL (and I couldn't handle watching it past the first few seconds), I'm obviously not going to link it here.
  16. CNN Turkey's studios is being emptied out, and it looks like it'll be shut down momentarily. Rough (but supposedly accurate) translation of the previous message: Turkish Armed Forces; the constitutional order, democracy, human rights and freedoms and plant supplied again; the judge again made the rule of law in the country; the re-establishment of the deteriorating public security order; purpose of the administration of the country was completely confiscated. All international agreements and our commitment remains valid. With all countries of the world, we hope to continue our good relations. The General Staff of the Republic of Turkey
  17. Kanal D (nationwide television channel in Turkey) has been reportedly been overtaken by the military. https://i.imgur.com/zMNZHoe.png Image of previously mentioned announcement on Turkish Armed Forces' website (I do not have a translation): https://i.imgur.com/30l6ALO.png
  18. Tanks running over vehicles. https://twitter.com/RamiAILoIah/status/754108899649810435/photo/1 https://twitter.com/RobPulseNews/status/754109636421320704
  19. According to an announcement on Turkish Armed Forces' website, they are now control of the entire country. All of this doesn't really sound like "control of the entire country" to me, but hey, what do I know about pulling off a military coup.
  20. CNN just reported that CNN Turkey was taken over by the military. ??? (e): The Turkish Grand Assembly was just bombed on live television again.
  21. From what I'm hearing, it's Erdogan's plane.
  22. I'm reading all sorts of conflicting information - some say it's succeeded, some says it's failed. Guess we'll have to wait a few days to figure out who's lying. (e): Although given that we're hearing it from both sides, I guess it might be fair to say that both are lying, since clearly neither one of them has been able to shut up the other side.
  23. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2016/07/15/bernie-sanders-progressive-message/87073052/ Key takeaways (according to reddit): But Sanders said he'll remain a candidate until Clinton’s official nomination so his nearly 1,900 delegates can cast their ballots for him at the convention. "I want the country and the world and our people to appreciate the kind of success we’ve had,” he said. As part of his goal to transform the Democratic Party, Sanders said, he'll continue to push for electoral reforms when the party’s rules committee meets before the convention. "If we’re not successful there, we will take those issues to the floor,” he said. Sanders said he wants to make sure candidates receiving such help are, in fact, progressive. But they don’t have to be Democrats. “If you have some strong independents who would like to run, it would be my inclination to support them,” he said. He plans to maintain control of his email list, as opposed to giving it to Hillary/the DNC as is the usual for conceding candidates, I guess.
