- Obsidian Entertainment: RPG Specialization or Diversification
I am wondering: Is Obsidian Entertainment planning to remain a company specialized in developing RPGs, or is it planning to branch out into other genres of gaming? Personally, I am hoping that Obsidian stays firmly footed in the RPG territory. There aren't many high-quality RPG developers out there and from my very selfish point of view it would be a pity to see Obsidian's talent for RPGs diverted into other types of games, which are relatively saturated with their own champions already.- Obsidian Entertainment and Future D&D/Forgotten Realms Games
Most games with anything more than rudimentary complexity encourage some degree of metagaming. This is not necessarily bad, though, as metagaming can sort of become a game in itself and can even be fun.- Congratulations to Monty Markland!
Congratulations on your hire and may you contribute to many great Obsidian-made D&D and Star Wars RPGs to come!- DND via AIM or other suitable medium
I live in Europe and given that most D&D players are from the U.S. the time-zone differences kind of put a damper on my D&D gaming using chats and such.- Pssst

Thanks for the advice!- PC or Console?
I need a notebook PC for work and it is easier to justify paying something extra to make it decent and give it a graphics card than it is to justify buying a system dedicated to gaming, as well as a television set required to use it. The latter also take up much more space, look ugly in the living room and are destitute in the types of games that I tend to like. It is no competition...- Obsidian Entertainment and Future D&D/Forgotten Realms Games
Although I enjoyed AD&D when it was around, I personally prefer the mechanics of 3.X edition. I think many people like AD&D more, due to the flavorful settings (Dark Sun was amazing!) that arose then, rather than because of the ruleset.- Obsidian Entertainment and Future D&D/Forgotten Realms Games
I am glad to hear that! I love D&D too and Obsidian's electronic interpretation of it has proven to be excellent. After 4E comes out I will await patiently for Obsidian's translation of the new rules into electronic format.- PC or Console?
Personally, I only game on the PC and do not own any consoles nor do I have any plans whatsoever to buy any of them. The option is there for those who prefer both equally: i.e. those who have no preference between the two. It is there for completness sake!- PC or Console?
Do you prefer a PC or a console (or both) for your gaming?- Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition is on the way...
http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/commu...gardingFaerun4e If The Orc King is revealing aspects of 4E, I might get it. I'm not a PnP gamer, but I do enjoy the drama of DnD's cosmology. Heck, I'm dying to know if they'll ever reveal where Deathstalkers get their powers from. Some suspect it is Cyric, others that it's Set, and some suspect it is indeed Bhaal. I'm reading a bit about the clearer division between demons and devils. Devils are scheming and trying to obtain souls, demons are engines of neverending destruction. But... this is new? I thought that's how it had been. Yes, apparently Forgotten Realms is getting a substantial remake.- Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition is on the way...
Well, I certainly see your point. I am both a PnP RPG and CRPG D&D gamer and I like complexity in both. On the whole, I am still ambivalent about the direction 4E is taking, as there is really not enough information available to make up my mind about the mechanics.- Obsidian Entertainment and Future D&D/Forgotten Realms Games
Glad to see another D&D FR CRPG lover!- Capturing In-game Videos
I think it would be possible for a program to record using a high-compression mode - whether it's practical is another story. For instance, such on-the-fly high-compression methods might not be able to keep up in terms of 'real-time data speed' - resulting in a jerky-motion, missed-frames, sucky end-result. Example, for many folk, turning on Fraps - a program that results in huge video files - to record whilst in-game, the FPS drops drastically because of the extra load. You'd probably need a really, really powerful computer to handle it. So in short, my guess is that under most circumstances the answer would be "no." Fair enough and thanks! Anyway, what is the best (free) program you would recommend for video capture in-game?- Capturing In-game Videos
Is there any free and easy way to capture videos in-game without them taking an inordinate amount of space?- Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition is on the way...
In PnP I also prefer rolling to point buy both as a player and as a DM, but in CRPGs point buy is OK. In any case, given the design philosophy of WotC for 4E, I would guess that point buy is not just going to be an option in 4E, but it will likely be the default method of ability score generation.- Pssst
From my very own few-hour experience on these board I know the following thus far: 0th Title: Nub (0+ posts) 1st Title: Prestidigitator (5+ posts) I have surveyed the boards for more information and this is what I came up with based on the postcounts of other members: 2nd Title: Evoker (50+ posts) 3rd Title: Conjurer (100+ posts) 4th Title: Theurgist (200+ posts) 5th Title: Thaumaturgist (400+ posts) 6th Title: Magician (600+ posts) 7th Title: Enchanter (800+ posts) 8th Title: Warlock (1,000+ posts) 9th Title: Sorcerer (1,200+ posts) 10th Title: Necromancer (1,400+ posts) 11th Title: Wizard (1,600+ posts) 12th Title: Mage (1,800+ posts) Final Title: Arch-Mage (2,000+ posts) Arch-Mage seems to be the final title (excluding Developers, Moderators, VIPs and perhaps Custom Titles).- Developer posts
The first time I saw the feature was on Bioware forums and I immediately loved it - it was very useful. I guess these forums are less busy, so it is not as necessary, but it would still be nice.- Post Count and Titles
Thanks! A bit of a strange title - no wonder I did not realize it was about postcounts and titles.- Post Count and Titles
Could you provide a link? I cannot find it. Thanks!- Post Count and Titles
I have noticed that there are different "titles" bestowed for different postcounts. Anybody care to illuminate me on how this works and at what post-count one reaches which title? Thanks!- What are you playing now?
I just finished the Mask of the Betrayer - one of the best CRPGs out there. I would recommend it to anybody with a penchant for CRPGs, but that is probably a bit superfluous on Obsidian Entertainment boards.- Obsidian Entertainment and Future D&D/Forgotten Realms Games
It's all soccer-games from EA Bioware now buddy.. sorry. Suck it up. That's a bit harsh. I don't think it automatically follows that EA will change the Bioware approach. In any case, Bioware started moving away from licensed properties long before it was bought out by EA. - Obsidian Entertainment: RPG Specialization or Diversification
