Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition is on the way...
Magister Lajciak replied to Sand's topic in Pen-and-Paper Gaming
Though I like fantasy for my CRPGs and PnP RPGs, I generally don't read much fantasy fiction. Come to think of it, I don't really read much fiction of any genre, unless you count RPG rule books as fiction. Well they certainly are not literature of fact. -
Tying 4E FR Changes to Computer CRPGs

Telling a part of the story through the player's eyes in a game could help forestall that. -
Tying 4E FR Changes to Computer CRPGs
Magister Lajciak replied to Magister Lajciak's topic in Pen-and-Paper Gaming
Some of these setting were a major loss (and losing FR would also be a major loss). I still look back fondly at Dark Sun. Even Dark Sun CRPGs were great - I have fond memories of Dark Sun: Shattered Lands and the sequel Dark Sun: The Wake of the Ravager (though extensive game-breaking bugs hampered the latter experience). -
It is major, but it is not heretical. WotC itself released armor as DR rules in the Unearther Arcana.

Tying 4E FR Changes to Computer CRPGs
Magister Lajciak replied to Magister Lajciak's topic in Pen-and-Paper Gaming
That's a bit harsh. The changes are going to be made regardless, wouldn't it be better if we got some proper in-game explanation for at least some of them, rather than rely on what we are getting from the 4E FR developers, which does not seem to be all that popular and may be a bit short on consistency? I think my idea would result in a win-win. -
I don't really see such changes as an obstacle... unless the WotC licensing agreement precludes them.

The Forgotten Realms setting will undergo a great upheaval in the transition from the 3.X edition to 4th edition of Dungeons & Dragons. Many things will be reorganized and a number of deities will fall. I think this presents a golden opportunity to tie in a computer game (perhaps the next expansion of Neverwinter Nights 2 [i am assuming that the excellent Mask of the Betrayer sold well enough to justify another expansion) into the game, in such a way so that the story of the CRPG actually changes the setting. For example, the designers of the game could communicate with the designers in WotC, who would inform Obsidian (or Obsidian could suggest) that they need god X to be killed off, or ruler of country Y to be overthrown and the player could do these things in the game. Wouldn't it be nice to have players being able to affect our favorite setting in this manner? This is the best opportunity to do something like that, since the campaign setting is in such a state of flux that this would not upset the Forgotten Realms (at least not beyond what is being done already). It may also soften the blow for those opposing some of the changes by empowering us to carry them out ourselves - that would make it psychologically much more satisfying. I would love to be able to impact the Realms in this manner. Wouldn't you?

Best Graphics Cards at Present and in the Future
Magister Lajciak replied to Magister Lajciak's topic in Skeeter's Junkyard
I see. But what is it that makes the 8800 faster than the competition? Is it a high memory, or a fast processor clock, or something else? -
Hmm, I thought The Black Hound was supposed to be a Forgotten Realms game bearing the name Baldur's Gate 3 (to avoid legal issues). What 'heretical' changes could it possibly have that would be so controversial? Also, isn't the project too overwhelming for one person (with perhaps a couple of occassional helpers) to complete?

Unfortunately, I do have a feeling that Bioware's Star Wars project will be a KOTOR MMO. Yes, they take a while to develop, but why else would the Lucas Arts-Bioware deal be supposedly so huge? Successful MMOs are highly profitable and are all the rage now. Of course, I have precisely zero interest in MMOs, so I feel that it is a pity. First off, not even Bioware isn't likely able to do TWO MMO's at the same time. Remember they had to establish very own branch in Austin for MMO Also, K1 is definetly one of the highest selling Star Wars games Well, I hope you are right. It would sure be nice having another high quality Star Wars CRPG with a strong single player campaign, rather than some MMO.
-
Hmm, in that case it could be possible that the project could be picked up by Obsidian as an expansion or at least an official module.

Thanks!

Even if the deal was for genuine single-player KOTOR 3... if they only signed it now it would take many, many years to develop. This is definitely true, but does Obsidian have any spare teams to actually work on KOTOR 3?

Do you let your character fall to the dark side

I voted for staying on the light side -
Congratulations indeed!

Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition is on the way...
Magister Lajciak replied to Sand's topic in Pen-and-Paper Gaming
I don't really have a position on the topic of the god changes, but it does change things for those who don't want to change: It alters expectations of other players they may game with. After all, if it had no impact, there would be no reason for WotC to do the change in the first place. -
I am not so familiar with the graphics cards territory, so I would welcome your opinions. 1) What do you think is the best graphics card at present and what features mark it as such? a) For desktops b) For notebooks 2) What is the best graphics card that is currently on the roadmap for the future and what features mark it as such? a) For desktops b) For notebooks Note: By 'best' mean the most powerful, not necessarily the greatest value for money.

Submit your new or variant DnD core classes
Magister Lajciak replied to ramza's topic in Pen-and-Paper Gaming
That's reasonable. You may want to add the Climb skill to the Ninja's list of class skills though. Also, you should correct the description of the Mind over Matter ability and mention that it is gained at level 17 rather than level 8. -
So is this being created as a NWN2 mod?
