Bleakness of landscape (but it does contribute to atmosphere, just isn't a place I want to be all the time)
Length of critical path.
Nice and concise summary for those of us who haven't had the chance to play it yet - thanks!
Are you crazy? The landscape is dead on
OK, OK - as I said I haven't played the game yet.

It is indeed more of a publisher than a developer question, but it is often advantageous to wait for all stores to receive their copies of games before releasing them to the public. This can cut down on initial piracy if the pre-release security is good.

I'm a friend to animals now, and a whole family of molerats helped me take on an annoying horde of robots.
Hahaha are you being serious?

Well, I am looking forward to Dragon Age and expect that it will live up to its promise. EA has gotten better at leaving development teams alone and supporting them to produce quality products - this is not your old EA anymore, though they do have some anti-customer policies such as DDRM.

It's a very good game, an excellent sequel to the Fallout series. All three games have a lot of positives. I don't see why we need to tear one down to celebrate the others,
That's definitely true, but any comparison thread is bound to invite the tearing down of some of the things being compared.

Why would it be any different to MotB?
If you can manage that on the X700 then you're fine, but I think it'd really struggle.
That's what I thought, but:
We suggest a higher minimum specification and that should be reflected on the box and in the manual. -
I don't think BioWare is ruined. I like both BioWare and Obsidian - they both made great games!

I don't need DRM to save money on games, but it does save me money if you see what I mean. Basically, I buy games that meet my criteria - I don't set myself a specific budget, but my criteria are pretty strict. DDRM automatically puts a game below those criteria, so it saves me money in that way - it is not as good as if the games exceeded my criteria, but it has this ancillary benefit.
Yeah I know what you mean, and completely respect that viewpoint (of DRM being part of a criteria whether to play the game or not). We all have are own criteria that we use to decide whether to play a game or not. No The Sims for me
Thanks - yes we all have different criteria and place a different emphasis on each criterion. I am not sure I understand the Sims reference though - is it just to indicate your criteria, or is there some hidden meaning? I guess that might be because I have not played the Sims...

Hahaha, at least you're honest about it.I hate FO3.There, I said it. No rational reason for it whatsoever. Haven't played it. Don't intend to. I am a bitter old skull
Lol, but true!

LOLZ poor Biodrone.
Biodrone?

Well, disturbing imagery can also contribute to a horror atmosphere, but it must be done right and not be merely visceral or disgusting.

Yes. AP is February / March '09, Aliens is due probably around the holiday season.
Wow, I didn't know that. Thanks for the clarification.

Yeah, this thread is starting to lose track.

Functionally, you basically visit the same planet dozens of time, using a moon buggy that controls like ass, and yet provides no challenge whatsoever.
Ugh, that sounds pretty terrible!
-
Well, it does save me about $180 overall on Mass Effect alone.
Why do you need DRM to save money on games? If you want to save money, just don't play games at all - you'll save lots that way

"I was willing to understand Volourn's hesitation at getting Fallout 3, until he mentioned he thought FOBOS was 'an okayish action game' "
Because, that's exactly what FOBOS is. It doesn't pretend to be soemthing it isn't.
Well, if the name is the real reason you don't like Fallout 3 that's a different matter. Don't get too hung up on it. Just think of Fallout 3 as Fallout Action, or something and you can enjoy it too.

Praise? What praise? He doesn't give praise!
Read his review of the Orange Box, particularly Portal.
Hmm, fair enough - I stand corrected!

Thanks for the clarification.
Just out of interest: What are the minimum and the recommended requirements for the Storm of Zehir?
My current system is:
Pentium M 760 2GHz
2 GB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon X700 with 128MB VRAM
100GB HDD
Will I be able to run it?
I am actually getting a new computer around the end of the week, which can run it for sure, but I left my install disks back in Slovakia, so I will have to make do with my old computer, where the games are already installed, until I return back to my country.
Anybody knows about the minimum and required specs yet?
-
Yeah, the word "Aliens" could be interpreted in various ways.

And doing everything (completionist achievement) took me about 26 hours only.
That's what I generally do - I am a completionist! But 26 hours for that is a bit short...

Things I'm phobic about even as a supposedly rational adult:
Ladders (even short ones) - if it requires a ladder, and hubby's not home, it plain doesn't get done. Fear of falling I guess, and ladders are always shaky.
My uncle broke 7 ribs a few months ago by falling from a ladder onto a table. Ladders can be pretty dangerous.

Yeah, in a roleplaying game it would be pretty unlikely to work well.

Yeah, they pretty much used to assimilate and destroy the studios they acquired, but now they allow them to retain their corporate identity and be relatively independent.
