Trying to replay NWN2 OC which is slow going. About to start the Back Alley quest in Neverwinter... Some of the worst content of the game is about to come up, blech. Playing a bit of Alpha Protocol still, the fact that it's fairly short makes it really easy to have a playthrough going on the side of any other games. Pretty tempted to start a replay of System Shock 2.

Not a chance in hell. AP wasn't exactly a brilliant port by any means but there's no way you're gonna catch me playing a game where you have to aim at stuff through a reticule with a controller if there's the possibility of mouse control.

Alpha Protocol sales and sequel
Starwars replied to epektasis's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
I don't think a sequel will happen either to be honest. But there are also other factors, such as that they've spent a really long time on this game, the setting, the ruleset/mechanics, the characters, creating a new franchise basically. Even if AP didn't perform up to their standards sales-wise, the work done already could possibly be capitalized upon. But yep, I doubt it. Either way, *if* a sequel happens I really want OEI to handle it. I'd rather have no sequel at all if another company were to handle it. -
Pretty exciting finish to both games, Ghana's advancement would've been stopped if Serbia had scored again vs Australia. But in the end, Germany and Ghana advances.

I almost fear it will be some sort of bizarro experience where the mainstream will love the game but I'll hate it because its lack of depth, no consequences, no interesting character and OH GOD WHATEVER HAPPENED TO YOU OEI YOU USED TO BE COOL?! Almost.

Two things I don't like so far: 1) Bread crumb trail (please god let it be a toggle for this) 2) The 'shortened' dialogue responses a'la ME or AP But yep, screenshots and/or a gameplay trailer would be really nice to see.

Obsidian working on a patch
Starwars replied to WorstUsernameEver's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
I've never gotten a crash from either the ME's or AP which is nice. In the ME's I would constantly run into that bug where you accidentally "step off" the geometry and then can't get back onto the walkable areas. There was an entire mini-mission in ME2 that I couldn't complete because of this bug. Annoying as hell. I think it's native to the Unreal Engine as I hear it can happen in AP as well but luckily I've managed to avoid it. -
Obsidian working on a patch
Starwars replied to WorstUsernameEver's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
I haven't had many bugs myself but hopefully something good will come of it. Good news. -
Felt kinda bad for the NK team in this match, they started off pretty damn well but weren't able to actually score. There were a lot of mistakes from both teams, and yeah, I'd say the rain affected things quite a lot. Not sure in the goal situations but overall.

Pretty good interview considering how "secret" the game is at the moment. Feargus says at the end that he's very pleased with the gameplay itself, citing that it's something that Obsidian has been criticized of before. Apparently that was a main focus since the game started development. That sounds good but I really hope the game will feel like it has a good amount of depth in its gameplay and not turn out to be a "simple" hack'n'slash. Also, while I think it's good to not suffocate the player with story, I really hope they keep what seems to be developing into a Obsidian golden design rule, having plenty of choice. He also says early 2011 at the end, not sure if we already knew that.

With him missing the penalty kick, I can't really feel sorry for Germany. But the cards dealt (to Klose especially) was waaaay off. That's how football is sometimes though, but yeah... it sucks.

Yeah, it looks pretty freaky. I don't think so. I use one of those tweaks to remove stutters but I had this problem on my first runthrough as well (where I hadn't changed the ini).

Hey, took a while but here are two screenshots of the problem with character models at a distance I have: Any clues?

Alpha Protocol 2, suggestions.
Starwars replied to Reg1.1's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
What Ausir said! 1. Expand the mission levels. Design them to be more free-form and have more ways through them. Make complete stealth (getting through without getting seen at all or having to take down enemies) be super-hard but possible. 2. Same as above for the boss fights. Being able to avoid some or talk your way out. Try not to rely on challenges which involve spawning a bunch of guards constantly alongside the boss (OK for some boss fights since it makes sense, but not so much respawning). 3. More social missions! Loved the talky-talky missions in AP. Make them have consequences like the talk with Grigori. Also, maybe some open social missions where you move around at a party, interacting with people. -
Also, for the gadgets, the upgrades are well worth it. There's really no need to really upgrade them all though, just focus on the ones that you feel are particularly useful or specific to your playstyle. And keep in mind also that you can load up the same type of gadget on multiple slots of your armor (which should be the ones with maximal gadget slots of course). Getting used to throwing stuff is hard, definitely. But again, upgrading the grenades, using Overclock and stuff like that can really make the effects more devastating. I'd say that from the 3 main classes, Tech Specialist is probably the one that I felt was the least effective and was the hardest to play. But I really enjoyed doing it, I found it extremely fun to play around with the gadgets. Since I was playing a good character, I thought it was a lot of fun to make use of the flashbangs (extremely effective when upgraded), shock traps and stuff like that when I didn't want to kill people.

I hope they'll release the uber toolset for us to play with, that'd be nice.

Gaming journalists... praising graphics... in my Obsidian game??!!?! What's going on?!?!?! Looking forward to seeing more.

I thought the Mina romance was quite sweet and they set it up well by having Mina suddenly show up in person. They did a good job on keeping the dialogue flirtatious without getting completely silly. That was the case with Mina throughout the entire game. She's a great character, I found her easy to care about. I think the Scarlet one was the least interesting. Though knowing her "secret", it's kinda kinky. Madison was all-right. It seemed to bring out a more human and non-professional side in Thorton, thought they did a good job of that. SIE is, of course, the best one. I generally really don't like romances in games but I enjoyed them in AP. I think it mostly has to do with the fact that it's much more about... natural attractions rather than lengthy "I love thee" speeches. Even the one with Mina (which feels the most serious) is not all grand and sweeping, I feel it plays out pretty naturally.

Glad they're putting the option of killing people or not in the players' hands. Though something seems to be amiss... Hasn't it been confirmed that children aren't killable? Or perhaps children will only be "filler NPCs" and not involved in any dialogue trees.

That interview has a lot of good stuff in it. Great!

Sweet, Paraguy scores against Italy. God it'd be so much fun if Italy lost.
