You don't need Assault Rifles, just like you don't need Pistols, Shotguns or SMGs. One weapon skill is really enough, and it depends on how you wanna play really. That said, the Pistols are overpowered mostly due to Chain Shot. And like you say, the Assault Rifles kinda lose pull because Focused Aim is just a boring special skill. But really, the Rifles are quite powerful on their own and have a huge range. Shotguns are the most fun to use if you ask me.

Looks really nice overall! The video definitely highlights the problem with the facial animations like WUE says but hopefully that will be improved upon in the coming months.

Main thing I'd complain about is that the textures look a bit blurry in the more zoomed in shots. The more zoomed out shots look extremely good though. The coloring and lighting are the real highlights I think, those really raise the visuals a lot.

I kinda agree, and I can't quite put my finger on it in some cases. The cool vibe in some screens and some of the art design reminds me directly of Mask of the Betrayer though. But that looks pretty as hell if you ask me. Also, confirmation of fantasy boobies/outfits.

Elmore James - Early One Morning There are a lotta blues musicians that I really like for various reasons, but I think Elmore James takes the cake in terms of sheer power. The voice, the slide guitar and just the pure goddamn groove is unbelievable. Can't sit still when listening to his stuff.

BG1 kinda sucks and DA is better in *almost* every way. There, I started it off. It's the truth though.

Replaying Alpha Protocol. I swear to god, there is nothing more satisfying than baiting Marburg into attacking you again in the Rome museum and just blowing him the hell away with a shotgun while using Room Sweep.

That article reads like a blowjob to Bethesda. Still, some of the stuff sounds neat, but yeah... I can't help but get flashbacks from the PR stuff for Oblivion, and then comparing that to how it actually looked and worked in-game. Having random encounters in is good though.

I think that scene can trigger if you don't visit Scarlet in her little room in the final mission but not 100% sure on it. And you have to have Heck as your handler (so no saving Mina I suppose since she overwrites your handler) Either way, it was beautiful.

Agree with that. I prefer New Vegas by a fair amount, but it's also just a type of game that holds a lot more appeal to me personally. More player-driven, even though AP does a remarkable job of letting the player in on the interactions despite it being very story-heavy. But yep, I'm damn sure that AP will garner retrospective articles similar to something like Bloodlines in the future. The whole overlooked, flawed gem, type of deal.

In other words an excuse that "we can't design a proper FPS for the 21th century". That's why Bulletstorm is stuck in the 90s shooter-gallery mentality. Which is such a welcome change in todays age of lame-ass wannabe Clancy stories, crappy "historical" settings and half-assed cover mechanics. Sadly enough the game seems to feature a somewhat "heavy" narrative but man do I hope it's as easily skippable as it was in Painkiller. I remain sorta pessimistic because designing games around that kind of pure kick-assery that doesn't turn too repetetive is a challenge in itself, but again... Painkiller is one of the most fun shooters I know of, so they definitely have the experience to make something fun.

Crysis is actually a pretty fun game (lightyears better than CoD if you ask me) but it suffered from A) being marketed as basically a graphical demo or something and B) not really teaching or showing the player how creative you can actually be with the suit. It would've been far better if it had ditched the stupid story as well and just focused more on general mayhem. And yeah, even though I never felt the game to be particularly terribly optimized (it ran fine on a really piece of crap computer I had) but I mean... Who's gonna want to play Crysis, a game where sooo much of the PR was based on graphics, on a rig where you have to turn down a lot of the goodies?

Had a really good day at work today (work in a psychiatry ward). After some rather rough times these last few weeks, today was finally a calm day with some good workmates. What's more is that there was a chick working there who got called in from another ward in the hospital (someone called in sick) and she was extremely charming and kinda hot. Was kinda shocked since I thought she was about the same age as me (I'm 27) but then she mentioned being close to 40 which completely surprised me. But yeah, fun workdays can really rock. And good workmates is so damn important when working in a place like this (where there is so much tragedy involved).

Awesome. That's a great, often overlooked, game.

Why can't we have different things?

I think the branching and replayability is one of the main design goals they are aiming for, and judging from various previews and stuff there appears to be quite a number of ways to accomplish things depending on how you play. I believe they've said it will be a fairly short game (comparable to Fallout) but very replayable. It should be noted that the game seems very based in the "text-adventure" style, which might turn some people off.

But they made Fallout already. Fixed.

More than fun actually, I had an immensely great time with the combat demo. This is one of few RPGs where I'm actually looking forward to creating a combat type of character.

I'm Swedish. It's pretty interesting what he says about games selling here in the EU though. I know I remember JE Sawyer (I think it was) mentioning somewhere that NWN2 did better in Europe, but I didn't know about the other games.

I have no idea about the monsters in the past games but I'd just like to point out that the Forest Bear, as shown in that developer panel in NYC a while back, looks freaking awesome. Great design.
