Problems installing IWD: Heart of Winter
Qwerty the Sir replied to N'Al's topic in Computer and Console
Hope all goes well. Icewind Dale is my favorite game all time, and I thought Heart of Winter was a solid expansion (and Trials of the Luremaster was excellent). I really don't know why you would get that error message. My Heart of Winter disc came from the Icewind Dale Ultimate Collection, but aside from having the manuals on the discs, the Heart of Winter disc was exactly like the standalone version. Let us know if you have anymore problems. -

Problems installing IWD: Heart of Winter

This looks like a scratched disc issue. I had a similar error warning "Error: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)" when trying to install Baldur's Gate and it could not find one file. I was finally able to install the game, after cleaning my disc pretty well (I used one of those disc repair cleaners) and installing it on a newer DVD drive. I suggest trying to clean your disc and try again, maybe on a newer drive. Otherwise yeah you may need to copy the disc to the hard drive and if you can find the corrupted files I can try to email them to you. Good luck man -

When I was pretty young me and a couple of kids from my neighborhood all had a Super Nintendo and we had some different games from each other. The games we all really liked we all had separate copies of (like Super Mario World or NHL 94), but games we were more casual about only one guy had (like Stunt Race FX). We sometimes used to play those types of games when going to each others houses, and at times, even borrowed or traded games. To me at least, there is a distinction between that kind of borrowing, lending, trading, gifting, and playing together of a game as opposed to making a copy of a game that wasn't mine for my use. -
I wouldn't be too worried about the Pens. They can survive without Crosby, Hossa, and even Malkin .

I've always wanted to get a Wii, heck I have some Gamecube games that I haven't played yet, but I don't even have Mask of the Betrayer yet. Maybe this summer...

Some players deserve the playoff choker label, many don't but get it, it's just the way it goes with the hockey world. Alfredsson is still sometimes thought of as a playoff choker even though he clearly was the best Senator and maybe the best player in the playoffs last year.

Well, I guess I'm not exactly sure faith is a part of "human nature" as much as it is an epistemic necessity. I agree with you when you say that we take most of our knowledge on faith, and that conclusions about the material world, especially those not on the present are based more on faith than observation. Yet I'm not sure you can apply evolutionary psychology to it. I think it's more of a epistemic base of thinking than a trait humans have.
-
On your conclusion, the fact that it may be our human nature doesn't really provide any sort of justification for faith. Also, every sentence after the first one of your conclusion doesn't follow from the argument.

I will probably and hopefully give the game another run in the summer. I've played through the game 3 times now and I go with a core of: Human Paladin - Leader with the funny "Fighter 5" voice. I spend by far the most time rolling his stats to get high Strength, Constitution, Charisma, and moderate Wisdom and Dexterity. My 1b tank. Always put proficiencies in large swords in order to Dwarf Fighter - Max out Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution. The main tank. Human Mage - Sometimes I've tried some specialist schools (make sure to check which spells they are prohibited). Max out Intelligence, Constitution, Dexterity, and if you can, Strength. Beyond that I mix it up a bit, sometimes going with Thieves, Clerics as well as Bards and Druids, although now I really do understand the importance of Thieves in the game. Find Traps is really important in some areas and Pick Pocket can nab you great stuff, , while I'm kinda less impressed with Clerics now as you can rest pretty easily. Pretty much, depending on your style, you'll want a core of 3 warriors and 1 spellcaster or 2 warriors and 2 spellcasters with the supporting classes filling in as needed. I really thought the story of this game was underrated (my favorite story), and my one wish for this game is that it would have been more detailed. You can still have a lot of fun by skimming, but if the story interests you, it's worth your while reading carefully.

This is very interesting. Icewind Dale is my favorite game so please keep us informed about this mod and thanks so much for taking the time to finish it up. :D

"Colby Armstrong leaving will ruin Sidney Crosby" Pierre McGuire hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha I love Pierre! :D Seriously though I don't think the deal is that bad. Dupuis right now is not too far behind caliber as Armstrong or Erik Christensen and maybe he can re-find his game back in Pittsburgh. Obviously Hossa should be a great fit for Crosby. A superstar sniper who also plays a good two way game. Now they gave up potential for it, but Angelo Esposito's stock has really dropped recently for a reason and the pick will probably be a late one. The problem is resigning Hossa...

Tampa Bay has locked up Boyle and dumped Richards and Prospal. Boyle is very important for the Lightning. He's in my mind a top 5 defenseman in the league and very underrated defensively. That team needs defense badly and he can provide it as well as be the major spark on offense. I think and hope Boyle will win the Norris sometime along the line. A great move. Personally I think Richards was the member of the Big 3 to be cut anyway. Kinda a heavy contract, and he stagnated a bit in Tampa playing with borderline NHL'ers. As the number 1 guy with better linemates he should prosper and stop being unfairly criticized for his play in Tampa which isn't all his fault. Prospal was dumped for next to nothing which looks kinda bad but he might be resigned which is good. I personally think that Prospal - Lecavalier - St. Louis should stay together as a line. Only two or three other lines in the NHL are in the same league as that one. I don't know how much of an improvement Mike Smith is over Holmqvist though.

Understand what you guys are saying and it's true that these little everyday government policy things affect me a lot and I'll address it later, but I'm one of those guys you speak of. Never bothered registered to vote and probably never will. This despite all the pressures at my school to get people to vote and vote for their causes which range from "No Homos in Heaven" to "Students for a Sensible Drug Policy". You get dozens of flyers handed to you everyday just walking outside and are nagged and harassed all the time to either register to vote or vote for a candidate. This will probably get worse with the major 2008 election going on unfortunately. Now, getting to how it affects me, I really don't see how it does in any major way depending on who is in charge. Yes I'm beginning to pay taxes and have had to to pay sales taxes and car insurance and so on, but I honestly really can't say there is much of a difference between President Clinton and President Bush in terms of how these things have affected me or my family. I can't even remember the names of my local politicians. I don't think I've ever learned their names. We've done pretty much of the same as far back as I can remember. I doubt that when we get a new President it will change much either. My daily life will probably be unaffected. I'll be paying these things that I've always payed but so what? The slight fluctuations that may occur in prices and payments depending on the candidate in charge aren't going to be significant enough for me to pay much heed. I guess this is what I and maybe others like me mean when saying "it doesn't affect me". Of course the government affects me, but it doesn't really matter who's in the government. At least that's how it's been for the last two Presidents.

Yup, it's not talking about sellers feedback which I agree is very important. I like this move by eBay. Sellers will usually just wait to ship if the buyer hasn't paid. When I started with eBay and PayPal, I had to wait a week for my account to be registered and I had already put in an order. I just emailed the seller telling him what happened and he was cool with it. I would hate if he was spiteful and left negative feedback on me saying I didn't pay fast enough or something which would make other sellers less willing to buy from me. Pro-tip, always pay immediately. :D

I wanted to sell my vote but apparently its illegal.

OK, on Hulegu, I know for a fact that there are writings attributed to him that speak of his conquests with a distinct religious tone. I got the impression that it was like a Buddhist "holy war" against Islamic Lands with the way in which he is reported to have spoke. I like Mongol history, so I'm in to this stuff, and he's just the first example that pops up. On the Monks, sorry for being vague, but recently, in Sri Lanka, there have been reports of "militant" Buddhists burning churches down and generally "terrorizing" Christians. We don't hear much on them of course, but then again, we didn't hear much about Muslim extremists until 9-11. On recency, the fact is that Islam and Christianity get a huge amount of flak for their past histories. Jihads and Crusades and the like. If you think about it, the so called "Jihad" now is pathetic in comparison to the past, but the sensationalism surrounding it makes it seem like a real major threat. The "Crusades" of today are relegated to some pathetic abortion clinic bombings (we admittedly do not get much sensationalism about them though).

Hulegu Khan. Either Buddhist himself or very favorable and sympathetic towards Buddhism and following many of its teachings. Killed a lot of folks. 1) That was in 1200 AD. 2) He didn't kill in the name of Buddhism, so you're making an extremely tenuous link there 3) He was actually a lax Christian. He only started to change over to Buddhism near his death. Honestly, you're digging up some strange things to try and paint Buddhism in the same dark light as other religions. Does time really have anything to do with it? Anyway, the example of the Monks is there if you think recency is more relevant. I recall reading some documents for a class I took that certainly have him refer to his conquests and link it with religious reasons and general religio-speak. Both in Buddhist and Nestorian Christian terms. You might be able to find them from a scholarly article archive or University Library. The Wikipedia article that states this fails to mention other sayings of Hulegu and his strong Buddhist symphaties throughout his life, both early and late. The ambiguity with his sayings is the reason why I didn't outright call him a Buddhist. I'm not trying to paint any religion in any way by the way, just agreeing with someone's sentiment that Buddhism has had "religious extremists" as well, while many people seem to look at it with a different brush than other religions.

I've heard news stories about the Monks in Tibet as well. Hulegu Khan. Either Buddhist himself or very favorable and sympathetic towards Buddhism and following many of its teachings. Killed a lot of folks. Had a Nestorian Christian (a very inward looking, pacifist sect of Christianity) wife, who hated Muslims with a passion. So Hulegu treated them worse than the other people who were treated pretty bad to start. A cursory glance at East Asian (India, China and the lands in between) history will show many "civil holy wars" against "heretical" sects of Buddhism. People generally are not so nice. It kinda goes beyond religion (or ideology)...

I had Alfredsson benched because he was day-to-day. Anyway, I still think Vinny will win the scoring race, but even if Alfie is 5-10 points behind, it's hard to argue against him being the best player in the game. He's extremely good defensively both by his stick and body and a great leader. Vinny is those things too but not at the level of Alfie.
