  1. I'm happy Blake got a goal. It was a good game for a neutral observer with a fantasy player who picked up a point.
  2. You may be tired of arguing against the notion, but it really doesn't change the fact that it remains a key issue (notwithstanding the fact whether you work in science or not...). No matter how ridiculous or not the notion of a pink unicorn is, if I cannot disprove it, I will not say I can disprove it. Much less will I say I can rationally disprove it (to me at least, the notion of rationality is tied with deductive validity, and there is no contradiction involved in positing such an entity, so I cannot see how there is any "rational disproof" of it.) As for Ockhamz Razor, I really don't see how it brings any epistemic merit. It runs into problems with its own justification, as well as the fact that it is not really clear if it "works" or not. I prefer Chatton's Razor of Plenitude as he advanced it against Ockham. I think it is a good rule to live by...
  3. Ah yes, those figure 8's of death. I remember them well...
  4. Yup, for many people to believe in most things, some sort of tangible physical evidence that can be perceived by human senses is needed. This heuristic is used for most beliefs people form (at least what I've seen by myself and others around me). If a claim cannot pass that heuristic, it is usually not believed in. Of course, there are some (similar and related) beliefs that have no perceptual basis, yet the majority of people who use that heuristic to form most of their beliefs ignore it in these special cases of beliefs. All very interesting, but too profound for me...
  5. Recchi picked up on re-entry Waivers by Atlanta. Personally I think he has hockey left in him, and would be good with Atlanta.
  6. May I ask what is "rational disproof"? What does "rational" mean to you? Because no proof in favor of something does not equate to a disproof.
  7. I just played through a New Playoffs (I have the Super Nintendo version) and I won the Cup, but I didn't see it again. Is it in the Best of 7 mode? Anyway was very fun too, even against the computer (or Super Nintendo). I hadn't played the game in a very long time. I played the Kings and the first three series/games were easy enough, but the finals against New Jersey were tight, a 2-1 triple overtime thriller. Fitting that Kurri got the game winner, he was the Conn Smythe winner; 9 goals (2 hat tricks) and a couple of assists.
  8. Alfredsson's a man on an island right now. The guy does all he can to help Ottawa win, but the rest of the team seems not to care.
  9. Oh, I forgot about NHL 94's ending. Not really a true ending, but when you play playoff mode and go all the way to win the Stanley Cup, you just get the default three stars screen and go back to the menu. I know it was a really old game and all, but they have several animations for goal scoring celebrations, they could have added a cup hoisting one...
  10. The fifth Flyer player to receive a suspension after a dirty hit. What else do you expect from a team which still has Bobby Clarke in a executive position where he can influence the team...
  11. Unfortunately, no. I haven't had the time to play it, so I haven't even bought it yet. I can't wait though, sounds great from all I've seen and heard.
  12. Planescape: Torment was a great game because it had so many things going for it: -interesting and unique setting -interesting and unique look -good basic storyline -very interesting companions (best in any game I've played) ...but the thing that really stuck out to me was the level of detail. I really liked to read every bit of information in the game. I loved the flavor items. I loved things like the Sensory Stone stories, the lectures in the Civic Festhall, the inscribings in all those tombs below Ragpicker's Square, the different exhibits in the Art and Curio Galleria, and I could go on and on...
  13. I guess the ending I was most disappointed in was Icewind Dale II. I loved the setup to the Isair and Madae battle and the fact that your different choices would effect the outcome (it was basically do all the goodie goodie stuff for an easier fight though, and while I almost always play good, I could see why evil players wouldn't like it), but the actual meeting seemed pretty forced and abrupt. Not to mention there was no satisfaction from seeing that Orrick the Grey in the end. I really would have liked the ability to kill Orrick in the game. Hopefully there's a mod for that... Other than that I liked or was satisfied the endings for my other games that actually have an "ending".
  14. Great news on the scheduling change. My biggest problem with the new NHL is being reformed! :D Of course, I would like to see it go further. Here was a schedule I was thinking of: 5 games against 4 divisional opponents (20 games total) 3 games against 10 non-divisional conference opponents (30 games total) 2 games against 15 non-conference opponents (30 games total) Do something fun with the remaining two games (neutral sites sounds good) or get rid of them if you must. I have some more radical ideas but they involve a league crunch and conference reorganizing (essentially to make the NHL more like the late 80's early 90's), so they probably are very unrealistic. I don't know about that, Detroit was proposing a 84 game schedule earlier that was less division heavy. I know the Wings get slammed for buffing their record against a weak Central, and there is truth in that, but this year, I would say the Central is the strongest division. St. Louis and Chicago are the best non division leading teams right now and Columbus and Nashville are nipping for that 10th spot. I expect all teams to keep it up now. Plus, Detroit has suffered most of its losses against the Central (Chicago especially) and their closest games seem to be against their division. It's quite interesting the rapid turnaround that happened.
  15. Tampa had a lot of good chances. Not as dominant offensively as recently, but Khabibulin also stood on his head. As for Edmonton, well... I just keep watching the glory days:
  16. Heh, did you see him fall after his first goal celebration? Kinda held my breath there, I have a trade pending for him for Alfredsson in my pool.
  17. Martin Havlat scores in his first shot of his first shift in the first minute of his first game back, and a great goal as well... Top shelf through the five hole! :D
  18. Well, I'm 20 and I love my family. I'm so fortunate to have them, they bring pure happiness to life. I wish everyone could have what I have and I really feel bad for the people who don't have families at all the most, orphans and such. I also love kids a lot. I've watched my little cousins (9 and 7) grow up, and it was so much fun playing with them as babies, and now playing hockey and other stuff with them. It's just a sweet feeling watching a little kid do what you taught him to do, and it's also fun to let them get up 18-0 against you and then score 20 goals in a row to win the game. They're a lot of fun though, it's just great.
  19. I just realized that the Canadiens have won a cup in every decade since the NHL (except for the 1910's but the NHL came into existence since 1917) and that this is the latest into a decade they have been without winning one. It doesn't look like they will win in in 3 years either... How will the Quebecois (and the rest of the hockey world) deal with Les Habitants not hoisting Le Coupe Stanley in a decade?!? I'm not even a Habs fan and it is sad to me that this tradition will die.
  20. Yeah, I pick up games I look forward to usually in the first week as well, and like you I've had to delay picking up Masks of the Betrayer. I just don't have time to play it at the moment. I'll probably pick it up when I get Spore. Until then, just watch videos and read reviews and walkthroughs.
  21. I tend to deal with the high prices by being very picky of what games I want and the fact that there's a bunch of games that I have still waiting to be played (Half-Life and everything beyond it and Age of Empires III and everything beyond it), makes me delay buying games until they drop $10 to $20 in price in most cases.
  22. By the way mkreku (or other Leafs fans), is Jason Blake playing with Sundin? I expected this guy to put up 35-40 goals this year. Granted, he got a lot of assists early in the season, but that's slowed down as well.
  23. Vinny Lecavalier. ******* dominant. Have not seen a player dominate this way since Jagr in the 90's.
  24. Haha! Read this (and watch the video at the end): Gaborik Apologizes To Fantasy Owners :D
  25. I like both, though probably more on the computer. When I was little and in the early-mid 90's, consoles were the way to go, and I still play my Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 (loved my Gameboy, but that broke, and the newer versions and games don't interest me). Of course, since Age of Empires and Baldur's Gate, the computer has been the number one thing. I'll probably pick up a Wii when I have the monies, because there are some Wii and Gamecube games I want to play. I'm also worried about my old consoles dying on me, and the lack of backwards compatibility on newer computers plus Vista. I take good care of all my discs and know how to change the battery on the cartridges for those Super Nintendo/Nintendo 64 games, and my current computer can play all the games in my collection, so the only thing I'm unsure of is how to replace those olds consoles if/when they die. Here's hoping to Wii Virtual Console...
