It's been some time since I wrote that but I think I wasn't trying to find out which one of the three writers is "to blame" so to speak. I think I was wondering if three people working on a one character could result in... a little confused design? Because each writer would bring up their own ideas and interpretations which then potentially could not mesh well together? But I wasn't even sure how designing and writing a character in this game looked like in the first place, how collaborative the work generally is. (Because then my "speculations" wouldn't make any sense, right). I also admit I felt bitter about Eder at the moment. Phew. Thanks for clarifying that, I got unreasonably spooked. Also thank you for taking your time to reply to us. It was a nice surprise.

If you want to get spoiled for Atsura's reactions I posted all outcomes of some conversations in a topic about Atsura here. Usually two dispositions are grouped together and his response will be the same for both so in the first convo with him he gets 3 different greetings for 6 dispositions. 100% Honest Watcher usually doesn't get anything unique. But I haven't tested it for quests for Crookspur or Poko Kahara. As for dispositions... good luck with trying to play a more focused character. I tried and yet picked up one rank here or there and it kinda ruined my Atsura experience, which is also why I decided to test it. If you're not opposed to some modding it can be always fixed with the Unity Console. Also yeah playing for RDC is also interesting, I quite enjoyed it.

Godlikes are considered genderless in Vailian culture. Or maybe just afab godlikes aren't considered really women because they are infertile, I can't remember. This comes from conversations with Pallegina back in PoE. It may be different in other cultures; Tekehu is Huana and the problem of gender never comes up with him, neither with Vatnir who is a member of one of the Glamfellen clans. Also gender =/= sexual orientation. Kinda different topic. Also I never actually flirted with Pallegina in Deadfire because it felt wrong. Did it only for science :d. And because Josh Sawyer mentioned on tumblr that Pallegina has different dialogue lines for a female Watcher so ofc I had to check if it applies in this specific dialogues and well it does.

I think it's subtext. Or I used to think it's subtext right until this moment, now I have doubts. She reacts differently if a woman flirts with her (flustered when Maneha hits on her, annoyed when Aloth/Iselmyr say "fetching feathers, lass"), then there's this one ending with rumors about her and Ducess' relationship, lastly, how she reacts to a female Watcher vs male Watcher when they try to flirt with her one time. For men: ""Don't get ridiculous ideas. You'll only embarrass yourself." She makes a shooing motion with her hand." and for women: "Pallegina's head leans back and she observes you with a mix of annoyance and confusion. "I didn't ask for your opinion." Her sour expression softens after a moment." So... she doesn't want a relationship and any sort of suggestion of it makes her angry, that's clear. Her reaction when it comes from a woman is softer. But it's not conclusive.

The Shadowed Vale
handsomenat replied to Ashen Rohk's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I always buried Wael's scroll and on my first PT I played as a Watcher who dispersed the souls in random locations as Wael asked. And still got Handsome Eliam killed. -
I had some of his banters and interjections in my game and then I found the audio of the comment about Rynhaedr appearing to speak Seki on tumblr. Thanks for listing all of it in one place. I had a feeling the Rekke content might be hidden under the background check. It's a shame they added the seki/engwithan/huana text engravings after doing the VO so we don't see reactions from the companions. After seeing how Ixamitl language seems to be similar to Seki I thought that perhaps those two peoples were related in the past, before the Ondra's Mortar storms were activated. On a different note... how do I navigate the conversationbundle and stringtable file? to know which line refers to which.

True. One nice thing about the game is that it doesn't lock you out of content because you have negative disposition with the companions. They will still talk to you and have different reactions. When you equip a magic item on Aloth with negative disposition he will say "This doesn't change anything between us". Small touches like that :D

Well. Seduzo's comment stood out but then there's also the woman who's after Arkemyr's stone tablet, Maia... The overall feeling most Rauatai NPCs gave me was positioning themselves as superior to Huana. And when they say culture you can hear the scare quotes. Sure, culture changing and inter-mixing is a natural process. But here Rauatai is literally trying to conquer Huana. Frankly the idea of Kahanga state the way it is, gaining more power via control of Ukaizo frightens me. They can't provide for their own people and aren't really interested in reform so whatever Ukaizo would give them would likely just cement that mess. And yes I agree that Rauatai would change and probably most dramatically of all factions, maybe except for Furrante's Principi. A stable mainland with less natural disasters with a chance to allow more cultivation? People whose national identity was build around being extremely hardy and inventive now having their lives made considerably easier? It is intriguing but still... conquering doesn't sit right with me. There's a line that comes back a few times when someone (Watcher usually iirc?) suggests they just make peace: "on whose terms?".

From a dialogue with Seduzo (Rauatai captain you meet in the Gullet): Watcher: "If you do business here, perhaps you should learn the culture." Seduzo: "In a few years, these people will all learn our ways and pay homage to the ranga nui." Her brow furrows. I'd say they expect the Huana to assimilate. The changes in language, housing, economy, philosophy of living (Huana adapting to landscape vs Rauatai conquering it) will have long lasting effects. Seeing Sayuka was intriguing and very interesting. And yes, caste system is incredibly unfair (and in Neketaka it reached the peak dysfunction) but Rauatai doesn't change it from the goodness of their heart .

I've been thinking a little about pale elves and checked the wikia. I remembered Glasvahl from the first game. He and his clan learned that they are trapped in a reincarnation cycle that forces them to be reborn in the same place over and over for millennia. Is this true to ALL of pale elves? (Yet again Rymrgand looks like a master torturer; promises an out from an endless cycle of misery that he created) Also I have to retract what I said about the cult not being representative of general pale elf culture/religion/philosophy. I think that their overall worldview reflects the overall worldview of pale elves from WtW as a whole. Ydwin recognizes it. Harbingers also came from all over the WtW to join Vatnir. There was something universal in his vision he preached so yeah, my initial caution seems to be wrong in that matter. Main difference is in how they approach the inevitable ending; glamfellen outside of the cult don't run towards dragons to get killed.

Uhh... didn't one of the developers say that Eder was written in parts by three different writers in Deadfire? I don't really like how Eder is characterized in the sequel so maybe it's due to that. Or maybe it's a standard practice and usually works out? Anyway yeah it's disappointing how Eder was handled in this game, playing straight his low int and throwing in love for animals as a flavor so we still recognize the guy. There has been a topic here on the forum about him already so I'm not sure if we should discuss this further here...? But I just wanted to say that I agree with your points. Some people were perfectly fine with how Eder felt in this game too so I think it always feels so... validating when you find you're not the only one.

I was completely expecting some crazed death cultist that I needed to keep on a tight leash. Instead I got someone who was way in over his head, fairly annoyed with the state of his culture over all (though obviously from it, given his attitudes aren't that dissimilar), and someone who was trying to make the best of a crappy hand given to him by the gods. Kinda also think Ydwin was projecting just a little bit there. But even so I can see how someone as stoic as her (or someone who wants to be stoic) could be put off by a sob story. Especially if it reminded them a bit too much of theirs. Was actually pleased just how much Ydwin was fleshed out in this DLC. She's fatalistic in general (again, a sign of the culture) but she's rebelling against many ways fatalism is being practiced in her culture. Not to mention that while she agrees that 'everything dies', she's in absolutely no hurry to actually throw herself on the bonfire anytime soon. Fatalism vs the popular perception of nihilism, might be the way to look at it. In fact, as I think about it, Harbinger's Watch might just be a parody/satire of those 'straw nihilists' mentioned in that TvTropes link. What with them rushing to die at one moment (and cursing their fate that they weren't lucky enough to die) yet still going about their day-to-day business otherwise. Either way, HW ain't exactly a stable place, as seen by the brewmaster (and his unwillingness to drink his OWN swill ). Yeah, I remember when I first heard that BoW is going to be a bout a death cult I thought it's going to be serious and kinda what you would expect? But then in the first dev stream showing Harbinger's Watch they said there's going be to some dark comedy there so I guess it could be approached from the parody angle? I'm not sure what I expected from Vatnir when I first saw just the picture of him. I remember though how some posters assumed he's going to be evil. Also to respond to some of your points from your previous post about endings I agree that it is kinda disappointing how we don't learn about Vatnir's fate unless he's killed by the cult. As for him going back to the cult once everything's over... Would he still want that? (I don't know, that's why I'm asking. But my feeling is that he wants to leave this place. I might be wrong).
