D2D Awakening Page

Still ME2, just started a new run as an adept. Biotic powers are fun so far. Hope I still feel the same way about them later. It's just about time to get back into DA:O, since gamestop shipped out my copy of Awakening today, and I want to do a complete game from start to finish. I'm just not ready to take the science out of the fantasy yet.

Other than also being a western from Rockstar it has little in common with this new one. No returning characters or story etc. After watching trailers and reading previews I'm more excited about this than any other game coming out this year (that has been announced of course) and that is saying a LOT based on the cool looking games coming out. It does look very cool indeed. I wonder if there will be a decent PC port at some point.

Borderlands is the same. If you have the retail disc version, you can't buy the DLCs from steam. Conversely if you have the steam version, the DLCs purchased from the gearbox store won't work with it. For a long time ME's Bring Down The Sky DLC wouldn't work with the steam version of ME, although now it does. I'm sure there are other examples.

Ya know I always thought the PC showed a fair amount of restraint then.

And at the same time delivering a potent message about the mental landscape of someone who guns down everything he sees. I have no problem with this. Well that's a bit extreme. And yet, If a player chooses to roleplay a homicidal maniac, they should be able to see the fear reactions in the npcs' faces before they die, and not have them be mannequins that simply fall down when slain. That makes the game itself feel more alive. As a hypothetical, I meet a guy slumped against a wall with a nasty radscorpion bite in the leg. He tells me of a rumour of some ancient wreckage out in the hills south of town, and if I heal him up he'll give me the map he's got stowed away in his pack. I can see the pain his face, I can hear it in his voice. 1 {Medicine} You really need some radaway to heal that. 2 {Pickpocket} Yoink 3 {Bluff/Threaten/Persuade} How about you give me the map first, then we'll talk stimpacks. 4 {Perception} But this map is your kid's worthless crayon drawing of a deathclaw! 5 {Psychotic} Nah, I'll just take the map. BLAM. Not enough medicine? Can't tell he needs the radaway. Poor bugger dies anyway. Next time you're in town his kids throw rocks at you whenever you walk by. Not enough pickpocketing? Hey buddy that's not the map. Not enough perception? Can't tell he's really lying to you. The map sends you off hunting snipe until you starve to death in the wilderness. Not enough conversation? You don't have have any stimpacks do you? Piss off. No matter what I choose, I should still get to see as much animation from the guy as anyone else playing the game.

This, also add Dragon Age: Awakening.

Think this depends on how many missions you do . IIRC, in order to save the whole crew you can do one, then you gotta go. during that final battle, you can save the game at two points. . You can save after each of those points, but after that, yeah, you're on your own. I felt just the opposite. I thought the big reveal was kinda interesting, especially the way Mordin explains it. Liara's doing some not very nice things, heh. What did you think of her personality change? I thought, "holy crap" Agreed 100%

I dunno, I see a bit of a difference in putting points into athletics in order to move quicker and putting points in conversation/charisma in order to animate people when you talk to them. Making the game world seem more alive shouldn't be up to the player. Reactions by npcs to the player's choices should be present by default. Otherwise you're punishing someone for not wanting to be role-play a talker.
-
But that forces you to put skill points into a skill you may not want to, in order to get some animation out of the people you are talking to.

Orzammar was very nearly a quitting point my second time through DA. Felt like all motivation to continue was leeched out.

Play Alpha Protocol in San Francisco
mr insomniac replied to Matthew Rorie's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
That actually looked really cool. I would've loved to see some martial arts stuff myself, but the guy doing the walkthrough didn't build his Mike that way. I'm gonna believe, as the developers have been saying all along, that there's no right or wrong way to play the game. -
Sigh. Sad that they couldn't get it done while Doc was still in town. Wish him well in Philly. Thank Christ he didn't go to the Damn Yankees or the Sox. At least the Jays appear to have improved at the GM position. Sigh. Wells really needs to have a comeback year, so that maybe... just maybe... they can trade that contract away and put the money to better use. Cito's known for not giving the young kids a chance to play, and sticking with his favourites day in, day out. How else can one explain Millar's presence in the lineup on any given day? But Cito won't have much choice this year. There's a bit of a logjam at first with Ruiz/Lind/Overbay all capable of playing there. Would have liked to see Overbay gone to clear this up. Maybe it's not too late for that. Apart from all that, they need some of those young arms to get/stay healthy and return to form.

Just found out about the game
mr insomniac replied to Prince Lotar's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
And Torment, Icewind Dale(s) and KotOR II, for BIS/Obsidian takes on linear game worlds. It's a strength of theirs, and the stories of these games certainly benefit. -
Keith David makes Vhailor awesome. This is fact. Vhailor was underdeveloped, yes, but his big drawbacks are that you find him so late in the game, and if you're not careful you must permanently lose someone else if you want to take him along.

O hai forum, some news today?
mr insomniac replied to Matthew Rorie's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
Great interview, but I can't believe they asked him about Fall-From-Grace's diary. Wow. -
Interesting news, but it's not as though games have never been delayed before

Just completed Tali's recruit mission again. Ramped up the difficulty to hardcore and picked up the GPR. Geth Primes killed Shepard a couple times, those bastards. But that was mainly due to my not equipping the disruptor ammo beforehand. Oops. It was intense but certainly do-able. Tip: The Arc Projector kills groups of baddies. It kills them real good. Was involved in a discussion earlier about the Alliance's reason for being on Horizon. I was wrong, others were right. I paid more attention this time to Anderson, Ashley, TIM, and even Joker has his suspicions.
