  1. Why vote for a Bioware Hand me down that has less options than the original. KotOR2 sounds really disappointing.
  2. Sorry, I am not. I play my characters and no one elses.
  3. So you are saying that in order to make money they need to make bad hand me down games. If they keep doing that they can be assured that they won't be getting any money from me. Seriously, you would buy a game which claims to be a CRPG that has an predictable character driven story in which you have no choice in character creation? If that is the case I have some swampland in Arizona for sale if you are buying mood.
  4. I miss the shout box...
  5. In past games like Fallout, NWN, BG, IWD, Arcanum, ToEE, Lionheart, and etc could do it why can't future games? Are developers losing the ability to allow us to play our own characters or is Obsidian and other developers are just getting lazy? Which is it? Hopefully MCA or some other Obsidian bugger can answer that. Losing the skill to make good CRPGs or just getting lazy.
  6. I don't see games as being dumbed down or not. I just want to play a good CRPG that allows me to play my character instead of someone elses. Even in PnP I play my character and pass off any premades.
  7. Yes it does. In NWN I am able to play my rogue and advance him as I wish. In Fallout I could make a diplomat/talker and not get into any major combat if I don't want to. In Arcanum I could make a combatant necromancer and raise the dead to take out my enemies. I want to play MY character. Games like Gothic 2, Jade Empire, Divine Divinity, and SWKOTOR are reasons why I am getting out of computer gaming. If I want to play the developer's character I will play an action game and not a CRPG.
  8. Don't know. Maybe and maybe not. Never been in the position to give it a try.
  9. Till I feel better? I feel pretty good as it is. I am focusing more on my writing than playing games, which is a good thing mind you. I feel like I am getting something actually accomplished. Computer gaming has become boring and after the last few lackluster titles that I wasted money on I feel it is time I gave it up. That is why I haven't been on the forums of late.
  10. I am not lying, Volourn. Frankly I am distancing myself from computer gaming all together.
  11. Thing is there is quite a difference between an action game and a CRPG. In a CRPG I want to make my character as I see fit. In an action oriented game, I am mostly there for the thumping and not really caring what I use to thump with. A CRPG is different and I have different expectations and wants, and one of those is to have the ability to make and play MY character and not the developers.
  12. If the developers and publishers of KotOR 2 wants me to spend the $50 to $60 for the game they better give me real and substantial character choices, in both story and character development. If not, I will spend my money on something else. If I want amateurish CRPGing I will just play NWN modules.
  13. The difference between a NWN module and KotOR 2 is that you don't have to pay for the NWN module.
  14. As far as I am concerned I am passing this game by for quite a number of reasons. 1) Forcing you to play a specific character instead giving you the freedom to make your own character. I hated this sort of spoon fed gaming in PS:T, SWKOTOR, Gothic 2, and so forth and so on. I want to role play MY character, not the developers. 2) Combat of the first game was quite boring and aggravating. Boring that you spend most of the time just watching the action. That is a major limitation of the real time combat in this sort of game. Proper turn base combat as seen in Fallout or in ToEE would have been better for you would have much more options to put the beat down on your opponents. Aggravating because you had to constantly be monitoring your NPCs to have them do what you specifically want them to do. Such as I wanted Bastila and Mission to go to a specific place AND STAY THERE while my main would lead the enemies in an ambush. Did Mission and Bastila do as I wanted? HELL FREAKING NO! There stupid AI had them run off doing other crap. 3) This is a hand-me-down game. From Bioware to Obsidian, and I just don't play games that are in that catagory.
  15. I will bitch about being forced to play a character I do not want to play. I do not want to play a Force user whatsoever. I also would like to be able to have some choice over what race my character is. This is supposed to be a freaking role playing game or what? If Obsidian wants to make an action game in the Star Wars universe more power to them, but a role playing game is about choice and if I am forced to play a character that removes the role playing aspects of the game. This was a major fault in SWKOTOR and Planescape: Torment. Games are supposed to get better over time to show that the designers are actually learning to be better at their craft. If we are forced to play a single character type then CRPGs are taking a major step backwards and I want nothing of that.
  16. The technical aspects of Lionheart wasn't all that bad. If hey tweaked it a little to make it turn base the rules system of Lionheart would be very workable in a fantasy CRPG. The story aspects of Lionheart needed to be completely revamped however but the game wouldn't stop me from buying another fantasy based SPECIAL game.
  17. How would having a Ignore function not be good?
  18. Not at all, but if they do put in the Ignore function in that works both in the boards and PMs it would be a good thing. If you don't like the ignore feature Karzak, then don't use it or if you really feel strongly about it leave the forums here. It is just another option for people to use. Options are always good.
  19. This is the Way Off Topic forums, isn't it. Anyway, I don't want to see Caen dead, just financially ruined that he has to live in a homeless shelter for a while. Thats all.
  20. Some posts are like train wrecks. You want to ignore it and walk away, but there is a morbid curiousity that makes you want to look. An Ignore function will solve that.
  21. I'm sorry, but I had a way too aggravating time dealing with the NPCs. I take a NPC over, tell him or her to move to a certain spot, then go back to my PC to then follow at which that time the NPC moves from that spot and attacks somethingclear on another screen. It was freaking impossible to do any sort of ambushes or strategic combat wat so ever in that game. The engine sucked.
  22. I still say the best engine I have ever played in a computer game is the Infinity Engine. If they could make a fully 3D version of that engine style and NPC control I would be all over that game. The KotOR Engine, overall, blew kibble.
  23. It kind of boils down to this. Hack and Slash DnD is boring for it has all been done before. I don't see much difference of a Bugbear in ToEE than one in Icewind Dale 2 so it all comes down to the presentation of story. The story of a DnD CRPG will determine the value of future game products, not the rules or the way it is implemented. That is why IWD2 is superior to ToEE (just barely). Also I just want to say that PnP RPGs should remain PnP while Computer RPGs should have their own rules system that works specifically on the computer. Doesn't take rocket science to see that SPECIAL is superior to d20 on the computer while d20 is superior to SPECIAL in PnP.
  24. Its true so why worry about it? I think it is best to concentrate on games that are in the living.
