Why I think a fully voiced PoE:Deadfire is a mistake
Bionick replied to Gairnulf's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I mean, you're probably right, but there's definitely something about repeating sound bytes that makes you gellarde! Well done. A formidable fortress in the old style. We don't build them like this anymore, you know. Not by the sea. Too vulnerable to cannons. The difference between examples is you can't hit a button to make Pallegina shut up but you can click past the text almost as soon as it pops up. The topic is about background banter between non-party NPCs being repeated, not party NPCs.

Why I think a fully voiced PoE:Deadfire is a mistake
Bionick replied to Gairnulf's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I really don't see why hearing the same bit of background banter several times is any more annoying than reading the same bit of background banter several times. It is physically impossible to choose to not read something that is put before you (assuming that it is in a language you understand, of course). Once you read it, you essentially are hearing it your head. There is no functional distinction between the voiced banter and the read banter in this regard, unless the voice acting is particularly bad, of course. The ironic thing is that your post actually inadvertently attempts to demonstrate this very principle by you repeatedly typing the same phrase over and over again, completely demolishing your argument. You have only proven, if anything, that repetition is annoying, not voiced repetition.

Manual before release?
Bionick replied to MarkK79's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Yeah I remember this as well as all the old gold box game manuals from pools of radiance, curse of the azure bonds etc. I remember making myself read the manuals from cover to cover before I even started the game. Added so much flavour and depth to the experience. I miss those days... I actually used the BG Manual as a quick reference guide for some stuff when I played DnD in summer camp and didn't feel like cracking open the rule book. Good times.

Sidekicks will have no banter
Bionick replied to molotov.'s topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)That isn’t how stretch goals work.

Manual before release?
Bionick replied to MarkK79's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Who remembers how great the Baldur’s Gate manual was? I spent hours with that thing as a kid.

Deadfire DLCs Revealed
Bionick replied to Ethics Gradient's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)In video game development, some jobs such as writing staff and concept art are finished much earlier than the jobs of the programmmers and asset artists. The writers virtually always start planning DLC before any game is released. This is standard practice.

Armor sets and illusions
Bionick replied to Archaven's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)You can’t change your armor’s appearance. This was asked in a QandA. You can only toggle helms and capes on and off.

Why I think a fully voiced PoE:Deadfire is a mistake
Bionick replied to Gairnulf's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Immersion? What's immersive about constantly cutting people off in mid sentence because they're. just. not. keeping. up? This really feels like setting money on fire just because someone at the top read an interview with Bioware that full VO is something that the kids like these days. Even if it were true that full VO is something that only kids were interested in (which is nonsense), that would only be an incentive for OBS to pursue such a goal, as they need to appeal to as many customers as they can with the game they are trying to build. That is not an illegitimate goal, it is the point of business. Full VO does not compromise Pillars. Lots of people like it. I myself am an avid reader, but I sometimes find the scrolling text of story heavy RPGs to be an arduous chore.

New game +
Bionick replied to Dragonfear's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Every 3rd level, you’re required to choose an ability for each class. What about it? “You level up each level as a multiclass character, not two separate classses individually.” Mostly true. Every 3rd level you do level up two classes individually. Choosing your class abilities is not what I was talking about. The OP was under the impression that you could, for example, be a level 20 fighter and then start leveling up that character as a wizard, instead of just being a level X battlemage.

New game +
Bionick replied to Dragonfear's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Multiclassing is only possible from character creation / npc recruitment. You level up each level as a multiclass character, not two separate classses individually. Hence, you could not level a character up to 20 and then start leveling a second class.

Trying to figure out how faith/religion works in Pillars. (POE1 spoilers)
Bionick replied to Bionick's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)It seems very transactional. Though I suppose faith could be either an explicit or implicit transaction (good behavior for reward) in the minds of many people today, and there definitely was an overt transaction in the "religious" (though that word is somewhat anachronistic) practices of pagan societies (sacrifice and tribute for reward). It is interesting to consider how faith operates when the universe is set up as such that you know incontrovertibly that there are real gods and an afterlife. I always play my characters as atheists (as they they are usually some form of Nietzschean will to power). In the first game I had a priest in my main party, and reconciled that as my character doing thus purely for the utility of it. Now that I am thinking about it more, I am not sure if that would fit his character. I think that if he knew that there were gods that would make him even more of an atheist (insofar as he would resent and defy them, since it would be irrational to not believe in their existence in such a setting). But priests are so much more useful than druids. Role-playing dilemmas.

Why I think a fully voiced PoE:Deadfire is a mistake
Bionick replied to Gairnulf's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)If POE2 being in this respect like almost every other game on the market then this must be a difficult hobby to enjoy. Most people aren’t bothered by it and prefer full voice acting, so from a financial perspective it can hardly be considered a mistake.

Who else is doing there first playthrough with all single class?
Bionick replied to master guardian's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Why do you dislike mages but not priests and chanters? What they do is still magic.

Trying to figure out how faith/religion works in Pillars. (POE1 spoilers)
Bionick replied to Bionick's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)The ending of POE1 quite thoroughly explicates that. That is all pretty neat, but I am not actually asking about the gods themselves in POE. My question is what does it mean to have faith in the gods. I am sure that I would have a better idea about this if I had ever recruited Eder, but I never did.

Trying to figure out how faith/religion works in Pillars. (POE1 spoilers)
I know this forum says "NO SPOILERS," but I assume that is for POE2 spoilers. right? I included the tag just in case. I am just trying to figure out how religion works in the Pillars universe. I know the backstory; the gods are artificial manifestations of philosophical ideals created to inspire and unite kith. They are real in the sense that they have power in the world and can bless their favor onto mortals whom they like. So, this is a universe where one can know positively that the gods are real and that the afterlife absolutely exists; these are not matters of faith. Does this mean that to have "faith" in any particular god simply means one is hoping that a chosen deity is aware of and cares about an individual's existence enough to intervene on their behalf, either in their current life or in guiding their soul to a more promising reincarnation? Note: I am separating faith from the potential misapprehension that gods are creators and anything more than the constructs that they are. Is this correct and complete? Thanks in advance.

Who else is doing there first playthrough with all single class?
Bionick replied to master guardian's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I have 5 parties planned out, all custom characters (If given the option to make my own characters I can never abide NPC companions). Of these 25 characters, 23 are multiclass, 2 are single class. <__<

Co-op/MP discussion...
Bionick replied to Socratic's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I don’t see how mechanically the gameplay of Pillars is any more complex than BG/IWD. I pause during combat just as often in both games.

Co-op/MP discussion...
Bionick replied to Socratic's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)This. Real-time multiplayer is fine. Turn-based multiplayer is workable. Real-time-with-pause multiplayer sounds like it would induce a stroke. Baldur's Gate was multiplayer, and it wasn't that bad at all.

How much DLC is planned for POE 2?
Bionick replied to Stardusk78's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Why are we talking about voice acting? It isn't going to be DLC.

Pillars of Eternity 1 Tutu; think it is possible?
Bionick replied to Bionick's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Rushed expansion with a big drop in quality, which is fairly forgettable and worth skipping except it wraps up story, so it’s a must play? No thank you. Expansions are there to expand content. They don’t have enough content to carry entire finale. I was talking about the concept, not the execution. There is nothing intrinsic to expansions that preclude them from being good.

Do most people really play the hardest difficulty level?
Bionick replied to Tattyblue's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I started off PoE on the hardest difficulty setting but found each fight to be too much of a chore so I bumped it down. I only recently tried normal difficulty for the first time and I found that I actually enjoy it more, so I’ll stick to classic difficulty.

Pillars of Eternity 1 Tutu; think it is possible?
Bionick replied to Bionick's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Personally I hope that they end the Watcher’s story with a Throne of Bhaal style expansion. Sort of like a epic level campaign.
