  1. FOT still has turn based elements but Lionheart was purely real time. If Bethesda uses FOT's style of turn base, which can be toggle from real time to tradition turn base then I would find it acceptable enough.
  2. Games evolve. Video games are more about settings and feel than simple rules-sets. Maybe it is time for SPECIAL to take a hike. I mean, if we're going to be totally "purist" here, Fallout must automatically fail since it was originally designed with GURPS in mind... right? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Of course games evolved. Compare the gold box games to NWN2, however they are both still turn based.
  3. Turn base is just one facet. Even modern DnD games like NWN2 are still turn based.
  4. Alan, that is like making a Dungeons and Dragons game without using the Dungeons and Dragons rules. Is the proof unequivocal? No, but it is good enough for me.
  5. Using the East Coast is a good idea. Of course any improvements to SPECIAL needs to be actual improvements. Making SPECIAL real time is not an improvement. Lionheart and Tactics prove that.
  6. Then again they might not. Also they have slowly been making their TES games more and more dumbed down. Compare TES2 to TES3 then to TES54.
  7. Well, Bethesda has a certain style in which they make their CRPGs. I doubt they are going to change that style for the sake of one game.
  8. When dealing in sequels and using material from the same setting the game needs to be wholly consistent. Think the Fallout universe as a DnD setting. If a developer makes a FR game in which Elminster was a talking frog, and Nasher a female drow I don't think that would get passed WotC all that well. Fallout 3 needs to be consistent in canon with FO2 and FO1 for it is a continuation of the series. Now if they place Fallout 3 in a less used area of the world in the Fallout universe then they have more freedom. Such as setting in Europe would allow more freedom to put in their own spin of things because not much was really done there except what was stated in the intros. If they set in in southern California then they will have more restrictions. Setting consistency is a must if you are going to make a game that has a long established history.
  9. It is unfortunate that the animals they did find were killed.
  10. I for one don't want a cut and paste job.
  11. And we allow you to do so because you have such a cool sig, Llyr.
  12. Sorry, must of have missed it. Looks pretty cool.
  13. The Fallout franchise ended with Fallout 2 and the cancellation of VB. If Bethesda does right by FO3, which I doubt, then all is good. If not, no sweat off my back.
  14. That is my plan. I won't start FO3 topics but I will comment in them. If FO3 isn't to my specifications I will go play something else. I won't join any movement over a game. Its just not that important. Now that would be silly.
  15. You're computer programmer? Cool. :D I learned GWBASIC and Pascal when I was a kid, but I just couldn't get my head wrapped around C++.
  16. How are you qualified to question my qualifications to make the original statement? It seems the only qualifications required for me to make that comment is to be logged in, but then again that seems the only qualifications you need to question my qualifications. AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH! What a viscous circle! I was referring to the NBA games since that was the last subject matter posted. In sport games, I imagine, where action is most of the time key it is better to have a more streamline code than have junk code slowly the action down, don't you think?
  17. Didn't Microsoft supposedly do a clean slate with Vista or was that just DirectX 10?
  18. If they do, they do. If they don't, they don't. Makes no difference to me.
  19. Yeah, I said sometimes it's better not all the time it's better. Obviously when making a sequel to a game it is not better to start with a clean slate. I mean, use some common sense, Alan.
  20. For the engine? Sure. For the rules system and setting? No. Besides how can you have a clean slate, in terms of setting, rules, and engine, with a sequel?
  21. Sometimes it is better just to use a clean slate and start from scratch.
  22. Its more fun to melt the spouse. No legal fees.
  23. My female character gets umm... married, then I take her wife out nto the desert for the honeymoon with Suilik, then I cap her in the back of the head and travel to Vault City.
  24. I really don't. I think I will wear my Chaotic Evil ring at the gaming session tonight.
