Yes, this is the absolute truth and anyone who says otherwise is a filthy liar who should be put in a rocket and flown into the sun.

Did you just diss Max von Sydow? I'm pretty sure that's one of the seven deadly sins. Anyway, I've enjoyed the previous Elder Scrolls games, though I don't feel strongly about any of them.

I caught part of a news report a few days ago and saw a woman saying that games that would get a R18+rating should just stay banned. Because as those ignorant of gaming know, our country will be flooded with all the rape and murder simulators the rest of the world has been enjoying. What people don't realise is that most games the OFLC has issue with get downgraded to MA15+ with either minor cuts or no changes at all. So rather than getting a whole slew of new deviant games, we'll get the same ones as always just that now some will have a higher rating.

Complaints about HR mechs being too advanced compared to DX are much like the world being too advanced, it's assuming that everything we saw in the original game was everything the universe had to offer. We don't really see Anna and Gunther use many powers in DX. Anna can cloak and they can both take a lot of bullets, but that doesn't mean that's the extent of their powers.

The sex thing refers specifically to prostitution, and apparently with drugs the problem is when drug use is shown as positive (like if if gives your character a buff) and/or if it has the name of a real world drug.

Pretty witty, huh?

I'll be honest, if it's got an orifice, my character is set.

Isn't that the preview Maria said got stuff wrong? I don't know. All of them.

I will play the **** out of this, day one. I've said before that since the early days I thought this was a labour of love, and from what I've seen* and read so far this game appears to be right up my proverbial alley. I don't know why anyone who hates what they've seen so far would rush out and buy it. *This does not simply mean "OMG the graphics are so pretty", though I do think the graphics are pretty and unlike slowdrain I can tell the difference between Dwarf Fortress and Crysis.

This is fair enough, though it's quite a change of tune compared to accusing them of being greedy and whiny. Companies should do their best to make sure paying customers aren't caught up in the systems used to stop the thieves but unfortunately there will also be people caught in the crossfire and when it comes to PC gaming expecting otherwise is similar to expecting perfect bug free games, it's an impossibilty when there are so many different system configurations.

It's more sex and drugs that the Australian censors take issue with.

I actually had it that I clicked on a male soldier and he said his main story one-liner, then I clicked on a female soldier and I got the same one-liner...in the exact same voice as the male soldier! That reminds me of Boiling Point, where a character conducted an entire conversation with a different voice actor for each line.

Close, but don't go counting your chickens just yet.

This analogy is ridiculous, an adult fighting with a child is not the equivalent of a business discussing and attempting to stop those who steal from them. Do you also think a security guard grabbing a 13 year old kid they just caught shoplifting is in the wrong? This is just another attempt at dismissing everything a company says or does regarding piracy. First it's they are just being greedy, then it's they should remain silent because everything they say is just whining, and now it's they're just being bullies. Like the pirates who always have an excuse why their actions are right, you keep coming up with new ways to claim companies are wrong. When called out you just come up with another variation on the same old excuse. The target demographic is gamers, a group of which pirates are a part. DRM is an attempt at limiting piracy and turning some of those thieving consumers into paying customers.
-
It's true that a company needs to be careful what it says publicly, but it's not their fault that some gamers automatically dismiss anything and everything they say on the issue. I first responded to you in this thread because you claimed that companies only "chant against piracy" because they are greedy. Then you claimed they shouldn't publicly discuss piracy at all. This is irrational, and it's not their fault that you insult them and want them to remain silent. It's common for the perpetrators of crime to blame the victim, but it's not right. DRM is an attempt at controling the pirates, to stop them from taking their product without paying. You can't separate attempts at stopping or limiting piracy from the pirates themselves, the two go hand in hand. Pirates are indeed consumers because by playing the game, they are consuming the product. They're just consumers that aren't willing to pay. "The customer is always right" doesn't literally mean that everything the customer says, thinks, or does is correct. It means you want to keep you customer happy by giving them what they want, which isn't always possible because people can be irrational. Back when my sister worked in a Lush store, a woman came in and asked for a particular product. When my sister told her the item was discontinued some time ago, the woman got angry and called her a liar and demanded she be given what she wanted. In this situation the customer is most definitely not right.

Lol, no. A company who complains about piracy never thinks of their comments as whining, nor do the gamers who bitch and moan whenever companies mention piracy. I infer a lot of whining in those who complain about the harsh lives of poor people and their struggle in choosing between necessary essentials and luxury items. These things are not two seperate issues, DRM exists because people pirates their products. There absolutely are expectations from consumers. Like paying for the items you want rather than stealing/copying them. No company has ever said that they'll respond to piracy by hurting the gamer, but gamers often feel hurt by things they say or do. CD Projekt will include no DRM in The Witcher 2, and have announced plans at attempting to go after only those who steal from them, and still there are people whining. Yeah, I believe this was pretty much hurlshot's point.

Those people are fools. I can at least respect the honesty of those who offer no excuses and instead admit they just won't pay for something when they can get it for free. As Cantousent points out, what has been offered up in this thread are self serving statements concocted after the fact. I'm told that piracy isn't a big deal and has no negative effect because they wouldn't have bought it anyway, but the robin-hood-stickin'-it-to-the-man protest-piracy only makes sense if you believe piracy does have an effect. Then again, maybe it really isn't so bad stealing ice cream if it's ridiculously over-priced.

No they're not, they're cracking games so anyone can get them, rich or poor, it doesn't matter. And they don't only crack games that come from rich publishers/developers, they crack everything they can. Look at the Humble Indie Bundle - people could pay as little as they wanted with the money going to charity and still it was pirated up the wahzoo.

This is something I see often, accusing businesses of greed, but is it really greedy to want to stop those who take your product for nothing? When does something move from a legitimate attempt at defending their business to just being greedy? If a company has 100 million dollars, and they come after me to get the 1 million I stole from them, are they just being greedy because, like, they've still got another 99 million? There is a proper manner to conduct yourself on that situation, basically don't stoop to the level of the pirates (who are probably a great majority of teenagers and young adults) You don't bring the whole bearing of your force on someone weaker than you; makes you look like a bully. Nor do you whine about them, that only makes you look weak. Basically they shouldn't even be acknowledging them as the problem and just try to improve either their DRM or their market tactics. I don't know what this has to do with what I posted, it certainly doesn't answer the question. Nor do you whine about them, that only makes you look weak. Who decides the difference between legitimate discussion concerning piracy and whining? Given your claim that "they shouldn't even be acknowledging them as the problem" I take it you think any and all comments are whining. "It's perfectly fine for me to take your product for free, this isn't a problem and I don't like it when you claim otherwise, so I'll just accuse you of being greedy and whiney." The problem here isn't the publishers, it's the attitude of the freeloaders. They'll insist that it's up to the publishers to offer them a better deal they are willing to pay for, but how do you compete with free? Their unwillingness to pay for the game they want is the problem. try to improve either their DRM or their market tactics. They do. Back when I started gaming you had things like code wheels and now we've got stuff like internet activation. Along with physical goodies like figurines found in the box we've got in-game preorder bonuses. Of course all this is stuff people whine about, but I guess it's okay for gamers to whine. Consumers (though perhaps not buyers) are allowed to bitch and moan all they want, but the businesses have to shut up and take it. Anyway, back in the days of the Amiga over half of my games were pirated. I had a list from some guy and I'd send him a bunch of disks noting the game I wanted and he'd send copies back. I don't even remember how I met him, he was just my supplier of free games. At some point (in my PC days, once the Amiga was well and truly dead) is just didn't make sense. I coud afford to pay so I did. I'm 31.* * I don't see the big issue with revealing one's age, but then even a 20 year old knows it's silly to insist that his views won't change in 10 or 20 years.

You mustn't be familiar with the original Robin Hood legend, where he stole from the rich and sat around playing games all day. The "give to the poor" thing was just some junk Hollywood added to the story.

Publishers and pirates are just like politicians who send us to war! Oh you sneaky devil you really got one over on old hurlshot! Red herring or just plain stupid? Creators/Publishers are biased in thinking piracy hurts the industry, and pirates are biased in thinking their actions have no negative effects. One guy puts a price on the work he has done, some other guy takes it for free. Only one of these guys is doing something wrong. Never mind, I've now decided that if some guy once embezzled millions and got a light sentence, then it's ok for me to shoplift. If Trent Reznor is ok with me downloading mp3's of all his songs, Obsidian is probably cool with me pirating Fallout: New Vegas.

Currently playing Dragon Age Ultimate Edition on 360. Started off with the Leliana's Song DLC, which I thought was pretty dull. Would have been disappointed had I bought it separately but as the UE includes all the DLC I don't really care. Also building a custom world in The Sims 3. I've still got RDR: Undead Nightmare and Costume Quest to play through, and I just bought myself a PS3 so I've also got MGS4 and Heavy Rain. I'll be a busy little gamer this Christmas.
