So what kind of actual problems does DRM like this cause for people?
-
If any of it is true it's very sad... but also kind of funny that it is not the demonized "dudebro sexist gamers" but the "noble and righteous" other side that has crossed that line.

There is no objectivity because no one can truly be objective. In other news there is no pure drinking water and no honest people so we might as well not ask for that either.

I played FemShep too... (But really I just like to control).

Here is another statistic that's actually well known. According to Bioware only 18% percent played female Shepard. And this is a character that's always been the posterchild example of inclusivity. If you listen to the game media personalities FemeShep is the Shepard... and yet. Now, I'm not saying this is good. But is it so surprising that another company may look at that and say "this is a lot of work and money for little effect"?

I get what you're saying and usually I agree. But that's how I feel about DAO, it feels generic and for a company which puts so much emphasis on writing they could do better.

The idea of that kind of research always fascinated me. And frankly since this is such a big deal these days it should have been done long ago. In fact any such gender issues analysis should start with that. But I don't know where to look for the source, it's just something TB said. In other words you are saying women can't think for themselves. And even if it was entirely true. That all of it is socialization. What then? There will always be a beauty standard. And whether to conform or not is a personal choice.

Dragon Age: Origins was about the invasion of Uruk-hai orc horde... I mean Darkspawn.... controlled by Sauron Archdemon. It was channelling every fantasy cliché. *Yawn*

On the subject of sexism in games. Been listening to Co-Optional podcast and according to TB quoting Blizzard statistics (haven't seen the quotes myself yet) the sexiest characters are vastly the most popular ones amongst their female gamers and the less sexy ones are least played, this goes for WoW and LoL. What a surprise then designers would keep making what people want to be playing. But yeah cis white males are the devil and all that...

So Brad Wardel's character is ok to discuss despite a very firm court verdict but Zoe Quinn's who in her own opinion knowingly broke consent (aka raped) with her partner. No, no, no, leave her personal life alone. If Zoe was a man there would be an article by Patricia Hernandez just hours later titled "Male Game Dev Admits to Rape" on the front page of Kotaku. Everyone knows it.

Indie devs who don't fall in line with the rainbow haired social justice hipster crowd have a great deal to lose if they speak about it. Blacklisting is real.

Are they?

TB on Anita: That is indeed a pretty big leap in logic and a ridiculous intent she projects upon the creators of the game. Objectification is in your head. If you don't want to objectify a character than don't objectify that character. Game writer is not your nanny to teach you how to think about women. And seriously "meant to derive perverse pleasure from desecrating the bodies of unsuspecting virtual female characters"... That's her conclusion? You can't tell me there is any reason here.

Great lets just destroy privacy and doxx everybody.

And lets not forget no one seems to even care that he was found out. He wasn't a CoD playing white MRA dudebro and he wasn't exposed by one of these social justice snowflakes but by gamers and so no one cares about that story. EDIT: Here is a story about privilege, harassment, power, etc. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/men/relationships/11216787/22-years-on-Im-republishing-my-controversial-book-on-the-failings-of-feminism.html

Besides that some of it is just fun it puts on display the hypocrisy of people who generalize others and demand 'harassment stops' while not even acknowledging when it's done on their behalf.

So I did a brief search: This real? Oh, yeah, it's satire. But of course it's the same crowd who says things like "ironic sexism is still sexism", etc, etc.

When you center on a specific product (like Bayonetta) and you appeal directly to reviewers to what can only be interpreted as a call to mark the game down. Like Anita and her writing partner have done. This is an attempt to exert control over content by controlling the review scores and publicity. This is an attempt at censorship.

So they are all hurt in their butts because Mattie Brice has been told fairly politely to not include IGF in her sarcastic jokes about being biased. Apparently that's equivalent to an attack of some kind. Also what is it with these people and their hair?

Nope. Not joking. She believes he was talking down to her and demeaning her and decided to make a public example out of him: https://twitter.com/Spacekatgal/status/530776550400983040 And then after that reaction she'll expect to be taken seriously when she tells tales about sexism in the industry.
