The majority of Game Of The Year nominees across all the board are console oriented games (games not on PC) but I think that's pretty fair considering that the top quality games were exclusives this year and then Red Dead Redemption 2. If this year proved anything, it's that hype doesn't matter, it's when games deliver on every account they promised in which gives them the title and love they deserve. I'm still playing RDR2, hoping that it (or Spider-Man wins GOTY).

A Special Announcement From Obsidian
SonicMage117 replied to Mikey Dowling's topic in Obsidian General
It has more likes than any other comment in the thread. How does the pay scale work? Do you only get paid when people quote your posts, or is it based on every post you make? Did the Bruce account stop producing enough reactions to be profitable? Blink once for no and twice for yes. 7 likes isn't alot though, but I guess it is in terms density of density and traffic on this particular thread. I don't know did the mods ban your alternate Oby account so now you just use this one to make people here look like shills? This is the second comment you write saying nearly the same thing, do you get paid double for it? Will you get paid triple for writing a third one sayomg the same thing? Hmmm... How I get paid, I suppose it's the same way you get paid for waiting to respond to me and waiting for my response to respond to me again ^I winked (in case you couldn't tell), does it count? I'm happy to see I'm still on your signature! Nobody was ever able to prove me wrong, just throw around snide comments because they didn't agree or I remained when they didn't want me around. The usual forum, nobody likes realists. I really can't wait for Obsidian to start doing some Xbox One exclusives, they're going to be great! *Gets burnt to a stake for saying that because members here like Hurlshot will think it's in spite but it's actually because Xbox has no exclusives so this is nice to have* The forums are an interesting place where if you say something posotove but people don't agree with, you're get made out to be a crazy, Imma continue to be here and lovin every second of it though lol Now quick, give me more reasons to validate my purchase of the Xbox One, Obsidian can help Microsoft right their wrongs and this community of fans is worth sacrificing to achieve this, more than worth. This coming from a pc gamer who funded Deadfire just like you guys, God forbid we all could have a slight of difference in opinion. Woot! Goin against the grain!! -

Most importantly: Spider-Man, God Of War, Red Dead Redemption 2 are contenders for multiple awards, including GOTY. Less importantly: Deadfire is in the nominees for best Role Playing Game, pretty sweet! https://m.ign.com/articles/2018/11/13/the-game-awards-2018-nominations-announced?abthid=5beb25bd9a05a9517d000798&fbclid=IwAR3p6CIidmc8FtzevzsR_8Ssbti_n25MH-IUSEJ1X7EX6LGJbSuudpyrzrc This year IGN did awesome, gotta give em credit! -
A Special Announcement From Obsidian
SonicMage117 replied to Mikey Dowling's topic in Obsidian General
And they shouldn't. They should be a bit more adult than this and say "I'm excited for Obsidian, if they continue to make great games that only release on Xbox, I'll just need to save my money and go out and buy the new Xbox. I can't wait to see what they do with all of MS's funding!" Unfortunately, forums tend to use reverse logic, that's typically why the most logical comments aren't favorited among members. Gotta love the irony on the Obsidian forums though "We are Obsidian fans" and then when their greatest fear comes to pass, they say "We won't play anything by Obsidian other than Crpg's, and they have to be on PC and not on Windows Store". They should just be happy if that Obsidian's doors are open at all and if the game comes to PC and it's through Windows store, that would be a bonus. Not sure where all the false sense of entitlement came from, perhaps when people funded Pillars 1 and 2 they thought they now own a part of Obsidian, then again it wouldn't be a toxic fanbase without some entitlement floating around. You are correct, it is very unfortunate. I hope you're not being serious right now, everyone here (and outside the forum) pretty much knows they wouldn't have survived if Microsoft didn't bail them out of the tough spot. Obsidian will only thrive due to the deal, thanks to Microsoft, if you are being serious, what makes you think they would be at any risk, is it just the usual paranoia because MS owns something? -
A Special Announcement From Obsidian
SonicMage117 replied to Mikey Dowling's topic in Obsidian General
Well I wasn't referring to after the announcement, I was referring to the event specifically in which the live Q&A was held and the same joke was told just because a fan hated what they were hearing. If members here whining out of selfish pity and snide remarks because Obsidian did something better for them as a company isn't in poor taste, I don't know is. Not sure why you're mentioning all the other stuff lol They will get new fans though, that's the whole point. This partnership is clearly a symbiotic relationship, without it Obsidian would die by why people are expecting that Microsoft can't please the old fans with just silly assumptions is beyond me. Tbh, I'm in the minority [on the forums, but in the real world outside of the forums, to the people who enjoy all genres of quality games, it's obvious I'm speaking for the majority. You are forgetting that the majority of the Obsidian forums are Crpg fans over anything else but the Crpg genre's fanbase as a whole is very niche at best. Just look at the sales at full price vs a deep sale and compare ot to a hardcore third person action rpg at full price vs a deep sale. Some people here actually even believe that Crpg's are the highest quality of storywriting in games just because they grew up with it, nostalgia tells them "They don't make em how they used to" and some other looney-bin myths. I mention this because it's hard for such a deal to make sense but luckily, Obsidian is experienced and smarter than the fans who possess this way if thinking. Obsidian thrives while the community cries, nothing more, nothing less. I won't get many likes, that's true but look at the audience here lol There arent many active on this forum unless a new game us releasing, otherwise it's really not even worth considering that people's like mentality here is example of a post being logical/illogical. It's a low budget f2p mmo, strange you use that as an example to debunk me just because it's the only mp game by Obsidian? We wouldn't really know what Obsidian could do with Microsoft's money and resources though. Yeah and That's the issue, I mean, there's tons of great indie dev titles that Microsoft has published, the best ones being this gen. Members here are neglecting to acknowledge that fact or those titles because it's not what they WANT to play or see from Obsidian. Doesn't somehow make Microsoft a bad publisher though. Not sure I can agree with you on that. But if I understand correctly, are you saying that Obsidian has more loyal fans? When a good number of them have demonstrated how angry they are by them taking this deal that they're no longer a Obsidian fan and will no longer buy their games? It's easy to gain the ultimate form of loyalty when it comes to consoles, far easier than a niche genre. The more following you have, the more of a hardcore following you have. I'm sure members here would like to think that their loyalty is somehow some of the more elite loyalty in the communities because Crpg is such a niche genre but that's just not how it works. People are still buying Xbox consoles when Xbox doesn't have any exclusives they don't already have on pc, due to loyalty, same with Playstation. There is no greater loyalty in the games industry that can be demonstrated over consoles, truly I tell you. You will never see thousands of people parked outside a store and camping in tents for a Crpg but you will for a new Halo or a new console release night. Would you kindly stop making sense Sir?... it's unbecoming, unusual and it baffles people Agreed. The forums are a strange place where people like to assume things without any proof and define their common thought process as proof. "If everyone is saying the same thing as I am, I must be right." Kanisatha's comment is the type of comment that barely anyone here will agree with amd yet everyone knows is one of the more logical ones. People feed on negativity, as has been proven by any media teehee -

Crpg's like Pillar and Divinity: Original Sin are on consoles too. There is and should be no worry or fear for Obsidian's Crpg's as we know them. All will work out well because Obsidian is strong and Microsoft will do well with them. I understand that's it's easy to be negative and paranoid but there's no logic to comparing the newfound relationship to EA and Bioware since both those companies are structured very differently than Microsoft and Obsidian. -

LOL They'll lose thousands of loyal customers and gain hundreds of thousands of loyal customers (if not millions). They're not worried about losing anyone here who calls themselves a faithful customer because they'll be making tons more money from making games on Xbox, that doesn't make the games bad either, just not the cup if tea which the forumites here care to play. -

It's quite possible, members of the forum stating their disappointment with the buyout and sieze of support certainly leaves little reason for Micr0bsidian to care about leaving the forums here up, or finding any reason to anyway. If it takes money to keep a forum up, well, right now they're basically paying for internet randoms to tell them how dangerous Microsoft is, and other things that they couldn't care less about. I wouldn't blame them or Microsoft for making the call as we as a community are just dead weight right now, a nagging wife at the ankle of Obsidian's heel. Desperation has an ugly face and we are getting uglier by the second -
A Special Announcement From Obsidian
SonicMage117 replied to Mikey Dowling's topic in Obsidian General
I'd be surprised if many games that are "xbox exclusive" aren't eventually ported to the PC. By and large the two markets aren't competing in the same way that xbox and playstation are, so not porting to PC hurts overall profits. Of course you'll likely have to wait before it happens, and more bothersome for me is the tendency for UIs not to be properly adapted when ported from consoles to PCs.True but not sure if that will be exactly true for the future. I mean, Sony doesn't port their games to pc and they're making for more with 1 game on PS4 alone than Microsoft does with 3 Xbox exclusives which are also available on pc. Xbox titles don't particularly sell well on Windows Store as many have demonstrated here in the comments with "We don't want console ports" or "Casualized games, no thanks" and "I wouldn't touch Windows Store with a ten foot pole". So it's more of a waste in the end really. My hope is that Microsoft is doing is preparing to take the Xbox exclusive road by getting actual console exclusives again (non-pc) and get Xbox players to put their consoles first again for games rather than just owning a an Xbox One and treating it as a secondary pc. I think they're starting to give up on hoping to beat Sony and Nintendo their "Crossbuy" way and doing things how they used to last gen - which was working far better for them. Besides that Xbox loyalists hate when Xbox "exclusives" get ported to pc/Windows 10 so perhaps Spencer is pulling that plug and Microsoft will start to acknowledge that. -

No Oby, I'm just one of the only smart ones who realizes that over-speculating bs and stirring unnecessary drama will probably get the forum shut down. It's funny that people claim to "care" about the forums but yet will call Microsoft the devil and claim to not support Obsidian anymore for taking the deal. People on the internet aren't so smart apparently. Edit: And yeah, I realize that stating some facts that peeps don't want to acknowledge makes me look like the crazy guy but I guess I'd rather look crazy to a few members by saying something the rest of the camp doesn't agree with than to look nothing but paranoid to the rest of the world, whining about things that the future has to bring - when we know nothing. Possible negative side effects without reason to believe isn't so wise to assume in the first place. Also, if I were shaming Obsidian for taking the deal and such, you probably wouldn't be comparing me to Bruce because I'd be going with the flow lol Being positive, realistic and optimistic about such a buyout will get you burned to a stake as well but I'm still happy if Obsidian makes casual action brawlers on Xbox! #SonicWitchTrials #LongLiveMicr0bsidian -
I'm 40% in Red Dead Redemption 2's story. Working on it little by little. Can't wait to try Destiny 2, I haven't played a Bungie game in a bit or a good fps for that matter.

A Special Announcement From Obsidian
SonicMage117 replied to Mikey Dowling's topic in Obsidian General
Members here are afraid, afraid that Obsidian will never be Obsidian again I guess - whatever that means. And even though Microsoft saved Obsidian (literally), they're going to compare Microsoft with EA, make Microsft the EVIL stepdad creep, even though as I pointed out - all evidence points to the contrary. We all know it but people don't want to be optimistic here Kotor II was console focused, New Vegas was console focused, Alpha Protocol was console focused as well. All those games were developed with console as top priority and the first two are still considered by many as Obsidian's best so, there shouldn't be any problem. Add to that, Pillars 1 was ported to consoles and even though the sales were bad, they proved the pendulum can swing both ways. So there is no need for all the fear, anxiety and paranoia. -

Copied and pasted from another thread because people seem to be catagorizing Microsoft as somtething they're clearly not, probably because they're anger'd at the moment because they know Crpg is coming to end but I thought a few facts would be nice to have on the thread - instead of just worry talk and whining. I'm looking at games published by Microsoft and seeing how great they are... -Sunset Overdrive -Quantum Break -Super Lucky's Tale -Dust: An Elysian Tale -Ori And The Blind Forest -Mark Of The Ninja -Killer Instinct -Max: Curse Of The Brotherhood Nobody here is mentioning these games, I'm assuming they're not being mentioned because they aren't Crpg but we should give credit where it's due. Like Obsidian, these are small development companies and the track record for Microsoft proves they've done more well than not. Also, people are acting as if there's nochanve of Obsidian's new games not being available to the pc audience or that if the games come to pc then there somehow bound to Windows store. All of this is superstitious and common paranoia driven by the usual forum brigade, all evidence proves to contrary of what members here are claiming, after all. And yes, all the games I listed are from this generation and they are all available on Steam (except Sunset OD which isn't out yet). Point being, some peeps could take a breath - no need to worry about things that more than likely do not exist as certainly none of those ip's listed "lack" in quality or content and yet are handled by Microsoft. So if a game turns out badly, it probably won't be Microsoft's fault but because we've seen Obsidian make buggy messes we love anyway then nostalgia can blind us. If Microsoft doesn't any longer let Obsidian develop Crpg games (which I highly doubt but members here seem so sure), it will probably bebfore the fact that Pillars and Tyranny sales were decent but profit was horrid and Pillars was one of the worst selling games on consoles, that's not exactly Microsoft's fault though and it would be smart for them as a business to not stay on a path that benefits nobody except a niche community of gamers - this obviously includes me since I was even a backer of Deadfire but I will go where Microsoft leads Obsidian because they're too great of a developer to give up. They've been my favorite developer since I was a wee little lad, after all. -

A Special Announcement From Obsidian
SonicMage117 replied to Mikey Dowling's topic in Obsidian General
Very true and those are good points. Which got me thinking... Personally I'd much rather see a company as such do a deal with "the devil" to stay alive and make games differently, which p1sses off the original fanbase and die eventually in years to come THAN to see them decline the contract, die as a company beloved for games like Pillars/Tyranny, being praised for not taking the contract at the expense of keeping their doors open. I know some people here might have preferred the latter (aa they've already stated here) - for them to have declined the contract and risked everything by continuing to do things like they were - but those people aren't even aware that this is which what was already sinking them financially and that's hella sad right there, to me, that people would rather have them sinking at their expense - to continue create Crpg, rather than to thrive as a developer, even if it's under the shackles of Microsoft, it's still better than going out on Pillars/Tyranny when they could have a chance to do so much better. -

A Special Announcement From Obsidian
SonicMage117 replied to Mikey Dowling's topic in Obsidian General
I agree... I think people here are confusing themselves as who they "think" Obsidian are with what Obsidian really is. Our perception usually tricks us into seeing something that's not there - especially when we're angry with the outcome lol Obsidian is talented , yes, but again like you said they weren't doing okay. They made some pretty huge mistakes with Pillars 1&2. It's enough to tell us why Obsidian had to do this deal if they wanted to keep their doors open. Bad marketing was one of Obsidian's greatest issues, reaching out to non-Crpg fans was their greatest fault. They couldn't compete with Larian here and that was going to kill Obsidian eventually. You have to be able to communicate well with people OUTSIDE your fanbase if you want to succeed. Figure out ways to say "Hey! Never played a Crpg? Try this, you might like it!" Or "Don't like Crpg? Maybe this eill change your mind" And getting the person to actually buy it at full-price and winning them over. Eh... I wonder if anyone actually watched the retrospect video by Obsidian in which they talked about these issues after releasing the first Pillars on pc, you know, the same video where they said they'd never release Pillars on consoles. So while they may be great devs with some great games, don't forget that the fanbase who will buy it's games at full price is very VERY small (as proven by the sales vs people who bought it at a low price/major price cut). Add to that, Pillars 1 being one of the worst sales for any XB1 and PS4 game to date. Reflective of that nature, and relying on crowdfunding tells us Obsidian wouldn't hage lasted much longer on their own and the thousands of members on this forum who would like yo argue that mean nothing because thousands of buyers is nothing when you need hundreds of thousands or millions of sales to survive in this dog eat dog world. And the fact of life is, they no longer need us. They have Microsoft now and soon, a whole new fanbase since they've joined the Microsoft family. So again, everyone should be celebrating with Obsidian, it's a win for them and the only way they would survive. I really couldn't be happier for them, things couldn't be better for Obsidian. Telling them our angry feelings is pointless, what's done is done. I would much rather trust Microsoft with Obsidian than this community telling them what to do. Edit: Well maybe if we whine enough, scold them enough and threaten not to support them than maybe, just maybe Microsoft will see this and break off the contract. Yup, make them regret that contract -
A Special Announcement From Obsidian
SonicMage117 replied to Mikey Dowling's topic in Obsidian General
Sounds good to me, I never held Obsidian as "Crpg only people", some members on the forums would agree that Kotor 2 and New Vegas were better efforts than Pillars anyway. Crpg was the foundation of the crew but I neber thought for a second that it was all they would do. They're so much better than that and to only tie them to one genre would be an insult at this point. I'm pretty sure Microsoft recognized their talents and will challenge them to do new things, better things and grow as developers. Let's be real, if people are only going to support Obsidian if they make Crpg's on pc, then they were never really Obsidian fans to begin with. They're just the average no brainer Crpg fan, nothing more. What supports this? The fact that Obsidian have made plenty of great non-Crpg games already. Nevermind the fact that people such as yourself make a myth like "Action RPG's are dumbed down" seem true just because you are disappointed with the news or don't enjoy other sub-genres in rpg. Games like Kotor 2, Mass Effect, The Witcher 3, Dragons Dogma and many more already proved that Action Rpg's don't have to be dumbed down like Skyrim and can have more depth than a Crpg. Why don't we wait a year or two before condemning/judging what happens? I'm not sure why people are acting like if they don't make a Crpg then they can't create a great game period. Smh... Forums teehee Or you need to do some research into what kind of deal this is exactly. Do you honestly think they are going to be in risk of closing doors in the near future (at least a few years) with Microsoft's cash filling their pockets. Please don't tell me you're this clueless lol Sure Microsoft might let go of a few people but you do know that they're more likely to expand then decrease in staff now right? That's common sense... And to the peeps saying "They betrayed us!" ummm... they didn't "betray their fans" guys, come on, you guys gotta be more mature than that, really? Lol They made a decision, the decision was best for them as a company, as developers. If the fanbase doesn't support or agree with it oh well I guess, I'm glad you guys have nothing to do with the company itself though and if the fanbase here doesn't buy the games, it won't matter. They'll just make different games that will cater to a different audience ad gain new/different fans. They won't lose. Just be happy for them, it's damn shame to see so much negativity from peeps here but it's te internet. Whatcha gonna do? *shruggles* -
Better yet, Can anyone show some examples of Microsoft dictating, manipulating and forcing change into development of projects? All I can see is a good track record with freedoms in association with independent teams under their funding (none of these have been cancelled, unlike the AAA titles) but thought I'd ask to see what members here know, you know, since some are assuming or are worrying that this will be somehow bad for Obsidian's future. *rolls eyes*
