There's a thread dedicated for GoG, so I thought I'd make one for people who use Steam - it's only fair, right? I have just learned that there are some games on Steam that do not require you to open Steam to run them. Flinthook is one such game... So maybe Steam isn't bad as people think It's nice that we will be able to do what we want, when we want with our games. Steam has been listening and watching, apparently.

SAINTS ROW II is FREE on gog. Right now. You're welcome

Uh oh double post! (Because my prior comment was from like 10 hours ago and it would be weird to mess with it now)... Anyways, I dod get a chance to play Hollow Knight and it was pretty amazing. I put around 4 or 5 hours in and felt like I made decent progress. I don't have much experience with Metroidvanias. I have a few but haven't really got to spend time playing them. This game though, consumed me. Strangely, it really took me back to the time I saw The Land Before Time and I think it's because of that watercolored art style, the way it animates and the characters. Just beautiful. Not bad for a cheap kickstarter game

Looks like I will finally be able to start Hollow Knight tonight... Finally!

New/Modern Games You Would Never Touch...

They are also finally removing Greenlight once and for all in favor of "Direct" publishing I'm happy to hear this as it will weed out all the shovelware, clones and RPGmaker games (all of which annoy me). -

For me, there are a few things I don't like about Steam: *Unjust VAC bans *Shovelware *The toxic forums *Scammers *Review system But these are the benefits of Steam that Origin and GoG do not offer: *Greenlight program *Early Access involvement *Talk to devs on the forum, add them on your friendslist Mobile app to do anything anywhere *Achievements, trading cards, bans *Able to get gift cards from Walmart. Gamestop, etc. *Far better and versatile controller support *Games usually get patched on Steam faster than anywhere else *Watch people play games *Share screenshots, artwork, videos, etc *Good messenger program whether on pc or on phone *Community market to sell free things for money or trade *Best family share feature out there I think the drm thing is nuetral, since there is a balance. It sucks because people can't share their games but it's good because it fights against piracy and protects the devs as well as the consumers. I think Denuvo has been doing a phenomenal job as finding the right balance as well, as more games now feature it and very good games at that. You can now permanently delete games you don't want from Steam but you cannot give away games that have been previously activated to your account, although I wouldn't doubt if they made that possible sometime in the future since it's being requested alot. -

Right, I'm definitely no fanboy for any of them in particular but I do recognize the benefits that Steam offers that Origin, uPlay and GoG cannot. It would take too long to list all of them but I think everyone here knows what I'm talking about. Excluding the unrealistic paranoias of drm, I just don't see anything wrong with uPlay, Origin or Steam. I use all of them and I'm content with what each has to offer Most games that I personally like to play are on Steam, greenlit games, etc. I'm one of those guys that plays the $15 so-called "cheap" indie or "poor man's game" but find that those are actually the best games - especially being of the 80's/90's generations of gamers. GoG seems like a great place to go if you're older and looking for those old classic games that aren't on Steam and maybe that's why people here hate Steam. Try'na keep those old gems alive.. "We don't want those RPGmaker trash games made by a couple 10 year olds that aint got no experience... YARRRR!!! Git dat there Steam out of here, those young kids tryin to get rid of us real gamers" (Raising my pitchfork and spitting to the ground) -

I'm staying away from both GoG and Origin then... Something fishy about a drm market place giving away free games, however, there must be an even bigger catch with a drm free place giving away free games. Amirite? Steam will always have that #1 spot in my heart <3 -

I'm actually really surprised that peeps here favor GoG over Origin... considering that Origin gives away 90's classics - the games which old people on this forum cheerish. You can never go wrong with someone giving you free copies of games like Age Of Empire, Sim Ant, Sim Hospital, Roller Coaster Tycoon 2, etc etc. But then again, people these days are weary of even accepting something for free - even when they know there's no catch involved but I digress. -
Cool, just wondering. I refunded 88 Heroes and bought Hollow Knight - I want to see just how good it is. People are raving about it. I think Flinthook or One Dog Story is next for me.

Does anyone know how much Stafe will cost at launch?

I've been wanting to play that. It looks awesome, jeep forgetting about it! I feel your pain, 30 munutes is about all I have time for (if that). On my sick days or more open days I might be lucky to get a few hours in... that's only once in a blue moon of course.

True, the bundle is $39.97 on GoG currently and $9.99 on Steam. If you don't like Steam, you can wait for GoG sale but there's no telling how soon or how later that would be.
-
Speaking of the Stalker series, the Stalker bundle is currently on sale for $9.99 on Steam. Whether you hate Steam or not, if you haven't tried the games, that's so worth it!

People here seem to hare Steam with a passion, that doesn't make it bad though. Out of all the platforms such as GoG, Origin, etc, I prefer Steam because of the experience and the community market. I own a few Ubi titles and love them. Rayman Legends is still one of my favorite modern platformer games. Watch Dogs is severely underrated, Far Cry 3 and 4 are decent fps with an actual story worth playing for imo. Now when you get into Ubisogt's rpgs.... that may be a whole different story lol -
It's going to be hard for everyone to agree on what exactly an Rpg is or should be. I think even devs' ideas of what an Rpg is have changed over the years. We have so many games labeled Rpg now days that would have never been tolerated as rpg's in the 90's and vice versa. I don't think the Rpg genre has evolved, I think it has broadened but in that affect has been tarnished some. Fallout 4 is labeled a pure action rpg but has been tainted with tower defense, fps, and other genres which I feel take away or overshadow the rpg aspect. Also, there really isn't any "choice" in dialouge - as you're forced to be the good guy. It's a step backward from Fallout 3 and NV. Still some peeps call it the best rpg in recent years

I agree that the new Zelda is horrible, the only thing I liked about it is how accessible it is to move around the open world - better than Elder Scrolls. Nintendo was clever to put in rock-climbing and shield-boarding and use of the environment in that way. Also the horse/owner relationship in miles beyond Skyrim or Witcher 3. Unfortunately, those are the only good things I can say about BoTW. The graphics are ugly, the voice-overs are worse than the worst Sonic games, the combat is Souls-ish *Ewww!*, and the animation is average. We need less of these open world action-rpg's... I'm glad Zenith released, it takes so many stabs at modern rpg's (many references, the game is basically a parody of different games). Ys series is a good alternative to Zelda. Sometimes simplicity is better :D Edit: And yes, Overwatch... selling not because it's a good game but because it has sexy girl characters *Sigh* ... oh yeah, and because it's Blizzard. Blizzard can make crap and people will buy it and love it. -

Growing up I always had a fascination with bugs, I always enjoyed movies about giant insects so I actually don't mind EDF, I haven't played the new one - I hear they made it all anime-like. I'm not one for anime but I'd probably still enjoy jumping in a giant tank and blasting aliens to bit all the same. It's noteworthy I'm one of the few people on Steam that bought Militant on Steam lol So maybe I don't have good taste in games after all. I usually like to seek out unknown games on Steam, or rather ones that get overlooked and overshadowed because of popular releases. Don't mind me, I'm mumbling, mumblings of unimportance. -

Well I played FFXV and there was alot of design choices that I just didn't agree with. Maybe it's more preference than anything, there was alot that just didn't sit well with me. To be as honest as I can, the boyband thing turned me off from the get-go, there was alot about the Final Fantasy gamea that didn't really grab me - even the classics but I felt like the newest one was a sell-out in alot of ways. Maybe what I consider a disappointment, others will consider an evolution. And then others just stay faithful because of the name. X-Com 2, well I loved the first game but there was something that turned me off about the sequel that I can't quite figure out what exactly it was alot of. When it first came out, there was alot of frustrating... I could not adjust to the timers, the random "cheap-shots" were abundant, I understand the differences they wanted to make and why they wanted to make it but it just ended up being maybe too much change (like FO3 vs FO4). If any of that makes sense. I just think the first one works better, I know some peeps don't agree with me on that which is totally fine too. Battle Brothers, well I don't generally play the type of game but the art style (to me) is one of the ugliest things I've seen in recent history - even uglier than SFIV's art style if that's possible, and then the mechanics I didn't like either. There is just nothing I see that draws me to it. I know my comments may be a bit rough here. I'm by no means a great explainer/talker. One of my favorite series is Sonic The Hedgehog games on Sega Genesis, I can admit that they were nothing to fancy or special. It's just that I grew up with them. The modern Sonic games suck. What gravitates me today to certain games are characters that I can relate to, a decent story (at least) and something that doesn't have too big of a learning curve as I don't have alot of time to game now that life priorities have changed (yet here I am, always on the forum... I'm always by my phone so I guess that's different lol). -

To be fair, there are just as many games (if not more) that were horrible games in the 90's... whether we talk unpolished, unfinished, etc. When you look at them now and play them now, you might realize how badly they've aged. The difference is that we grew up with them so they have a sentiment respect, they're "classics" even if they're bad because of nostalgia, right? Not trying to start a war but just stating something that is true. I'm an old timer myself, so I totally understand. I'm pretty sure that today's age of gaming is far better than the 90's so-called "golden age of gaming", call me crazy but there's alot more diversity and the industry has finally gotten back to creativity within the last 5 years thanks to the indie movement. I must have around 2,000 hours put into various Jrpg's from FF7 to Lunar but only one series has really satisfied me and that's the Ys series.. It's the only Jrpg game series I've held onto til this day. As far as anime, I won't really touch Visual Novels or dating sims. I think they are weird and dating sims are a waste of money imho. The only anime related games I play are anime fighters which I love to death. Racing... well let's face it, racing games are much better today than they've ever been thanks to physics ever-evolving. Forza Horizon 2, Wipeout 2048, Redout to amke a few. I haven't touched an FPS for awhile but Stalker and Metro are modern enough. I think Quake, Unreal and classic Wolfenstein or Doom are all overrated. I wouldn't spend money on them now just to have them in my library because I've already experienced them. Wolfenstein: The New Order is a great expereince. I think every genre of the 90's has been topped by games o late 2010's but still yes, alot of the "I wouldnt touch that with a 10 ft pole" and sometimes it's not even because it's bad but just because the dev has sold out, changed things in a way we don't like or maybe has some design choices that we just don't agree with. As I get older, there are alot of games I have grown out of, some genres I take a break from. Some days I just want to play a slow paced game with less action... because I'm old. On the days I feel younger though, I may play something like Unreal Tournament at 200fps -

'Hi guys, my name is Dave, I have great taste in games!" 90% of all games, new or old, are crap. Would take forever to list them? Sometimes there are games that make me ashamed to have wasted time on them, like Fallout 3. My name is not Dave.... -
True, I never dog games I've never played. However, I can't wait to play my beautiful paperweight ps4 again Injustice 2 ultimate edition incoming! I got it it for $69.99 with Prime discount and coupon. Harley here I come baby!!!!
