Sim Health (I don't remember there being a Sim Hospital, though there was a Theme Hospital, made by Bullfrog) was boring because it was funded by a gov't agency and it lacked the usual humor of Maxis games. It was a straight-up, no-frills health care industry simulator. The only reason I have a copy is because my dad had a passing interest in computer gaming in the 90's and he's a doctor. It's comparatively hard to find these days. Comparatively.

Doesn't look like AP will have an overtly pulpy tone, being as it is influenced more by more recent espionage media. That sounds more like a 30's adventure serial.

Nay. None of the games in that closet (save for Tiberian Sun, of course, I have no idea why it's up there with my vintage copies of Professor DOS and Turbotax) would work on a computer less than 10 years old. I used to have SimAnt on 5 1/2 floppy discs. In spite of my ancient gaming closet, my smut is 21st century, ie immaterial. Though if it makes you feel any better I took those pictures sans pants.

Good goddamn, I have too many stone classics in my closet. And I bet that Sim Health is worth some money these days.

#s 1-10: / thread- BREAKING NEWS: NEW EXCLUSIVE FALLOUT 3 TRAILER
Does that quote have a source? Really, that doesn't sound all that different from the other games. It doesn't sound different at all, really. I can become a slaver in Fallout 2 and then turn around and kill Metzger. I'll still have the tattoo but I'll have "saved" The Den. I can murder tons of innocent people and still end up with 500+ karma. I don't expect it to work any different in Fallout 3.- Places you'd like to see
They've released a list of some cities they're including. Taipan, Moscow, Saudi Arabia, Rome, etc. etc.- BREAKING NEWS: NEW EXCLUSIVE FALLOUT 3 TRAILER
Perhaps you haven't noticed who it is you're talking to. The sort of game that Crashgirl likes is very, very rare (and thank God for that, because they're boring) The details don't and never have mattered.- BREAKING NEWS: NEW EXCLUSIVE FALLOUT 3 TRAILER
I don't really see how a projectile launcher in and of itself doesn't fit into the Fallout universe. If the particular Fallout setting has scarce ammo it fits perfectly.- Downloadable Content
Bottom line is, I'd hate for AP to be in the round-the-clock ultra-serious mode of Mass Effect. So give us a fu manchu moustache, or clown make-up. Even if it isn't really noticed by other characters, it'll be fun.- The Sound / The Voices / The Music
That's a safe bet. A bunch of different VAs from the other games. That lady who played Handmaiden/Viconia, etc. etc.- Downloadable Content
So considering this is the first game made for the next-gen consoles by Obsidz, I was wondering if we'd be seeing any sort of post/simultaneous-release DLC for the game beyond the usual avatar pics and dashboard themes. - Since the game is said to have a camo / disguise / outfit system, would we see outfits or items be made available via DLC? Things like this in other games, like MGS4 and Dead Rising, are usually given out freely. They don't even really have to "fit" into the game, per se. Just for fun, like in Dead Rising. I'd love it if I could go through Alpha Protocol with my character decked out in Hooligan facepaint and a flowerprint dress, or a gold-lame jumpsuit, or hell, throw a reference to Obsidz past with some jedi robes or maybe some chainmail. MGS4 had some interesting camouflage items that didn't help you in any obvious way but affected gameplay subtly, by increasing the chance for enemies to react in a certain way (burst out laughing, run away in fear, etc.) - Extra weapons. This one's been done in a few games, but they're usually sold instead of given away. They've been met with some resistance in some games, like the Godfather game, because you're essentially spending real money to gain an in-game edge. Perhaps they could just be inconspicuously inserted into the inventory of arms dealers and the like? - Developer commentary. Valve ships these with their games, but MGS4 for example has a (apparently dead in the water) series of "podcasts" that you can download. These would be free. - Extra levels or quests. This seems pretty unlikely, as AP strikes me as a Fallout / KOTOR sort of deal, where the shipped product isn't really modified or expanded upon except in sequels, and besides, how's it going to fit in with the story, and who's going to work on it? They would require lots of forethought and work, far beyond any other superfluous DLC addons.- The Sound / The Voices / The Music
As much as I like Alan Rickman, getting him to play a guy in his mid-to-late twenties would be utterly awful.- BREAKING NEWS: NEW EXCLUSIVE FALLOUT 3 TRAILER
To be fair, developing for the PS3 has been said by many developers to be a royal pain in the ass. I know Valve won't touch it.- Games that made you weep
SPOIL URSE FER ARCANUM COMIN RIGHT UP I remember getting to the end of the game and finding out that the big dark elf honcho had been rehabilitated after eons in a bubble, and I thought that was a pretty cool sort of development (I think you may have also been able to take him along as a short-term JNPC, not sure about that though) but at the same time, something clicked in my head and I thought "OH **** THE WHOLE THING WAS A TRAP THE GUY WHO SENT ME HERE TOTALLY SCREWED ME", which I thought would've been a great twist, but of course it never happened and I had to fight some super-evil dwarves or... something. But as much as that game really sucked, it contains one of the two things put in a game that actually disturbed me (the other being Sackhead in the Gamecube Resident Evil remake). The quest in which you uncover the origin of the Half-Ogres was pure nightmare X-Files ****. You learn all these incredibly sadistic and evil things that had been done and at the end a guy comes to you and says "you don't have a chance in hell of stopping us, so we're just going to let you go on your merry way." It was like a particularly good episode of the X-Files. Kept me up at night. So they had some really great, great stuff in there. But also lots of bull****.- BREAKING NEWS: NEW EXCLUSIVE FALLOUT 3 TRAILER
It's no real surprise considering before they bought the IP outright they had licensed 3 iterations of the title.- Games that made you weep
Firaxis only took the least interesting aspects of their best game, Alpha Centauri, and integrated them into Civ III and IV. They're tripe by comparison. There are only two games that were ****ty enough to make me regret buying them in the 15 years I've been playing games. One is Dungeon Siege 2. The other is The Witcher. No redeeming qualities whatsoever.- guns again
What I'm thinking is they'll give you a set amount of grenades each mission (or no grenades at all) and "special" weapons like sniper rifles or RPGs get either limited ammo or use only within their own area or minigame (like a stationary turret in any other game). Besides, if I recall correctly, the unlimited ammo was said not to apply across the board, just to most weapons.- Feature request: Toggle for sticky targetting and stat based combat
What, like Dwarf Fortress? I don't think it's a good idea to hand over the PC entirely to AI.- What are you playing now?
Is it level 1 bard + 4 levels fighter + 10 levels Red Dragon Disciple?- BREAKING NEWS: NEW EXCLUSIVE FALLOUT 3 TRAILER
Is unkillable children really a sticking point? I'm skeptical.- BREAKING NEWS: NEW EXCLUSIVE FALLOUT 3 TRAILER
