Which characters will be awesome?
Pop replied to Starwars's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
I'm pretty sure Darcy is your original handler, the black dude. -
Mr. House? As in, The House Always Wins? Guffaw!
-
I'm guessing it will be the Saudi Arabian mission, in which case you probably won't be spoilt much. I don't think I was.
-
Oh wow, that's an incredible remaster, too.

According to this site, review copies have indeed been shipped out and they've been out for at least a week. Wonder how SEGA is going to set up their review policy. The consensus seems to be that, like in film criticism, if a distributor does not permit reviews to be published until the day of release, it's a show of no confidence in the product.

I would imagine you can visit hubs at any point but specific areas with missions you've already passed will not be accessible. There might also be cases where you go through all the missions in one hub and then another mission comes up in that hub much farther down the line (ala Bloodlines)
-
I might actually do that, now that you've gotten me thinking about it.
-
That's funny! If I had an alt on this forum, it would be a rape-happy Ayn Rand character.

The books you're reading are at least 30 years out of date. Lieberman isn't even ostensibly a Democrat at this point, he's essentially a neocon independent who caucauses with the Dems. And the Democrats don't have a solid bloc of blue-collar voters. Unions aren't exactly power players anymore, in the grand scheme of things, and they don't really have any interest in this sort of legislation. "Blue collar" voters haven't been with the Dems since the Seventies, when the party shook up the structure of the Congress and kicked out their Southern anti-civil rights contingent, who flocked to the Republican party and made it what it is today. They're not called "blue collar" voters anymore, they're called "family values" voters. They vote Republican, because Republicans don't pal around with queers or the browns who steal our jobs, and they all worship Reagan.. Lieberman's appealing to Tea Party types (nevermind that Teabaggers identify as independents and libertarians by and large. To the average voter, both terms are more bemusingly honorific than indicative of actual policy positions.)

Based on early estimates, Bethsoft is expecting F:NV to outsell F3.

I'm not sure there was a law. The 41st's administration always contended that terror suspects irregular combatants in wartime, thus removing them from the protection provided by the Geneva Convention and the US Constitution. He wouldn't have to. Even with a Republican majority this sort of thing wouldn't go anywhere. Lieberman is grandstanding. The joke is that all this has really done is make Glenn Beck look reasonable - he's spoken out against it. Though, given his positions on Health Care Reform at different points in time, he might change his tune should some teabagger rep reopen the issue at some point down the road. Meanwhile, Congressional Republicans have come out against a proposed bill that would prevent people on terror watch lists from legally buying guns and / or explosives. But that's par for the course. Post 9/11, Republicans tend to frown upon the Fourth Amendment (and the First, as far as things like implied privacy go) and rigorously raise the banner of the Second.

What if you want both pre-order bonuses?

Yeah, be a tru fan. I've bought 3 copies. -
I'll probably love New Vegas, but at the same time I'm starting to realize how much I enjoy the idea of a horror RPG, and that's a large part of what made Van Buren such an enticing prospect to me. All the nightmare scenarios - another nuclear apocalypse, the virus, the deserted dog-infested Denver, but especially the Reservation experiments and the claustrophobic, Andromeda Strain-y Boulder Dome - were what was so enticing about the game. Invariably my favorite parts of Fallout 1 and 2 were the creepy parts, invariably having to do with exploring old abandoned facilities and learning what happened there. And naturally I was crushed when the Aliens game got canned. I'm pessimistic about my chances of ever playing a true horror RPG again. If Double Bear's zombie apocalypse game ever comes out it will be years past when I can really enjoy games (I graduate from college in a year). So I am disappointed to hear that New Vegas is going to really be upping the camp factor. Didn't think I'd be one of those guys who jeered at the idea of more Fallout 2-type stuff, but Ferg makes it sound like that's what we're going to expect. Like I said, I'll probably enjoy the game immensely, but the B-horror aspects of the Fallout setting are the most important aspects to me, when you get down to it. Alternatively, it could be that there's some misrepresentation going on here.
-
Yeah, while Ferg isn't responsible in the strictest sense for what game journos write, he is ultimately responsible for opening his big mouth in the first place. Google Alerts just flagged down a Eurogamer article via Play.tm article saying that the Aliens RPG was ready to ship when it got axed. That misinformation isn't likely to be cleared up and it certainly reflects badly upon Sega. Ferg is probably getting some phone calls.

Actually there's a stipulation in the deal that once you get the Beta code you can't renege on the preorder. And you pay full price up front.
-
If you preorder the game via Gamestop they'll send you an invite. It's how I got mine.
-
So does anybody else have Starcraft 2 Beta access? I'm tired of playing with Halo generation ****heads.
-
People like Brayko actually exist. It's just that in AP, the link between American popular culture and foreign mob culture is made even more explicit. Gangsters the world over play at Scarface and The Godfather every day.

Where can I get one

Bethsoft has dropped its suit against Interplay. Supposedly there's also been a "secret deal" struck. Didn't think that would happen, did you?
-
In Van Buren you could get a "false" ending (similar to being dipped in Fallout 1) by blowing up the just-barely-sound Hoover Dam. Wonder if that will be the case here. Since electric power is the central concern of New Vegas, it makes sense that the final showdown would take place at the Hoover Dam. I've actually been thinking about whether or not New Vegas is really a one-off thing for Obsidz. Obviously they couldn't take over the franchise, but they could alternate with Bethesda, similar to the setup that Activision had with its Call of Duty franchise (up until recently, at least).
