Ok, the day has arrived I've taken both the White March expansions, and I'm ready to try 'em. Since I now have access to all talents and possible combinations, I was thinking of starting over, but I'm not sure of what can change with the new talents... I'm especially keen on cross class talents, and recently I wanted to try my undead&spirit hunter paladin... I'll most likely stick to this. any suggestions? When should I venture in White march? Thank you

Noone mentioned Paladin. While this class won't ever be "the best of" something, it has some neat abilities that not only keep your party in health, but are also quite punishing, like FoD. Moreover, if you like to feel as the group leader, the paladin will undoubtedly fit, even though this game does not include class-specific quests.

I'm quite a fan of paladin, since, if you're Wayfarer, he just cures everyone while trashing mobs. But I see your point: charging right into the fray gives not only ridiculously high damage, but also the mobility you want. This and the fact that you can just use nearly anything you want.... and there you go. A teensy-tiny war machine

Lack of "personality" in the MC
Slack83er replied to Slack83er's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I agree with jojo. This would result in a rewarding experience. -
Ha, my famous firearms post improved and poll-ized I'd vote "it depends" if you ask me, and if it was available. Crossbows are perfectly reproduced for example, and I think that their bonuses balance their weaknesses. Rifles are awfully slow, and if the option to switch weapon wasn't available, they'd be nearly unusable. I once took kana around for a while with his arquebus, and even improved his armor and deflection. The poor guy kept getting massacred every time he was reloading the gun. Maybe decrease damage a bit, but retain its bonuses as well to the arcane veil piercing... but speed it up a bit.. pistols and blunderbusses... mm I guess they're ok..

Ben, I still prefer paladin for that matter, that is the possibility of staying frontline without special buffs. But I think the concept you explained work just the same... I can't buff myself, I know, but I've got paladin abilities who in the end work just the same... moreover, durance buffs my party anyway...

Thanks again Boeroer, you're always precious when it comes to builds. I'd like to go Two Handed so St. Ydwen fits just fine. But it will require paladin, so I'm compelled to use it. If going Priest instead, I thing I shall choose Berath, which sports greatsword in the portfolio. But you gave me the good idea of using items that give spells... that can be really interesting... Would you raise Dex with a greatsword to help speed? That's always my main doubt...

Hi folks. I've been working on this archetype for quite a long time now. I miss so much the possibility of going multiclass, and for this reason, I'm trying to build a character that will prove an optimal leader AS WELL AS a frontline fighter, specialized in dealing with vessels/spirits, with a great care for his comrades. Two classes immediately come to mind: Priest and Paladin. While going priest would sound the obvious choice for this kind of character, I'm also thinking on the possibility of going paladin with the cross-class priest talent, to hurt undead. Furthermore, going Wayfarers will heal your comrades A LOT everytime an enemy is killed, which happens very often, as a two handed character. Boeroer has also indicated me a lot of useful objects (like the bartender ring) which suit this build perfectly. So, while this is NO WAY an optimized build, nor a min-maxed one, I plan to build it and maybe post it on the Build section once I've reached complete control over it. I believe I will go Mountain Dwarf (personal taste tbh) and give him a noble bg. Whaddaya think guys? Would you go Priest or Paladin? Would you add something to this idea?

Lack of "personality" in the MC
Slack83er replied to Slack83er's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Well.. let's just say that sometimes there's a thin line between being stoic and cruel... or honest and benevolent... Clearly, since we don't hear our toon speaking, we're just imagining the tone... I wish my paladin was just a bit more...defined, personality-wise. But let's see PoE2 for that.. -
Ok, my turn, in no special order of importance: -Class-specific quests. I play paladin, I'm a wayfarer and no-one ever needs my assistance? -Maybe 4 people in party is enough. To compensate for the loss of roles, introduce multiclassing? Or hybrid classes? -More playable deities. Galawain? -As a fellow player stated in one of my threads, make dispositions change my behaviour. If I always choose benevolent, progressively take out cruel from possible answers..if I want to become cruel again, I should go through a gradual change in my answers. -This game is Cipher-oriented. Next PoE should not be. Each class should be well included in the plot. -I find humans meh. Not only is their ability meh, but there's no point in choosing one subrace over the other. Change pls? -This is strictly personal, but I like my toon to resemble the portrait. Too few of 'em, even if I can download pictures. Just 2 orlans...to make an example.. -There are really too few unique weapons. And most of 'em are swords of various types. Extend the variety to other weapons pls! -I like the idea of sets. Someone already said this I think. Wearing all set (preferably a class-specific one) gives bonuses the more pieces you have. Nothing more comes to mind right now... will update this as soon as something new arises. Cheers!

True enough, but I don't like staying in the center of the field just casting, and anyway in the first few levels you have so few spells that you run quickly out of 'em.. so I'd like to be quite offensive too... Edit for clarity: What I want to do is to be a kind of Durance...who strikes with the staff from behind... if I cannot be ranged. But the good man is a priest of Magran, which i don't like... Staff and Rod are Wael's... and I think that for my priest I mostly like Berath (for the hatred vs undead) and that "dwarf-y grumpy" dispositions...
-
Hahahah! I'll promise that I'll read all of your builds BEFORE you write 'em next time! P.s. I've seen both unfaithful and the other build. As the 1st is min-maxed, I don't like it. The support priest is more viable, sure, but still not the main concept I have in mind... and neither of the two is ranged... perhaps Boeroer's new one is?
-
Thank you, I surely will. Now all that's left is to understand how to build this dwarf... I know he must have might for cures and damages, then INT for areas, Con shouldn't be much important, with my paladin I was never downed. RES and PER I don't know... guess what remains along with dex? I like Berath for the undead flavour but... I could take wael and take bg scholar along with "all matters arcane" just to fit with mystery..
-
Don't worry, that phase will only be passing and you should survive the process. I'm 33... I think I'm definitely lost... hahahaha! Back on topic though... I still don't own the expansions, which I'll take as soon as my pay comes. So yes, I've seen that dwarves here are not properly the known ale-chugger burp-emitting stout folk... but... I'd like to know the reason of that statement... don't worry of spoilers...
-
This is also true... what can I say... I still believe in the good side of humanity? Well... I must admit that sometimes even this insignificant (in terms of real life of course) games make me open my eyes... I should not think by stereotypes... The difficult part is "acting" in the game like I should. (i.e. following a certain disposition) Believe me, I find it difficult to act deceptively even in the blasted game, for I'm an honest person... Bah...I'll never be an actor....I'm a receptionist in fact That said.. the god that I find most suitable even for a dwarf, is Berath. The skeptical and grumpy straightforward nature of the dwarves makes a good "team" with Berath's Stoic and Rational dispositions. Maybe I could complain about the fact that in this game being stoic means being a egotistical a.hole... Rational is instead very fun to be as it is in some way "similar" to being honest... Second thing I don't properly like is his chosen weapon. Greatsword or Mace. Unless I got a soulbound weapon, no ACC bonus will be possible with ranged. And this points me back towards Wael. But the funny guy condemns both rational and honest. Oddly enough, benevolent yelds no malus at all... funny that. I must decide.
-
I'd take pallegina right now if I could... I like paladins, but somehow they don't satisfy my ego... they're simply fighters without prowess but with some cure or banishment ability. So priest suits me better I think. Arquebus is awfully slow... I'm seeing it with kana. While he often IS decisive, he just shoots once or twice in a whole fight. That is acceptable for a chanter as he is already doing something with the chant.. but not for a priest who does nothing amidst the shots. I don't know if I'd be able to play Wael because of his disposition... deceptive.... a cleric who is not honest... how can that be? But you're right, this is the only way to achieve that ACC bonus which is so large...

Howdy guys. I'm trying to put up a Priest who stays in the middle of the two groups (melee and ranged). Matter is... 1 - Noone except Wael favors a rod. Scepters or wands are not taken into account by the infamous PoE gods. Nor Crossbows. Or Bows. Or Pistols. As Ben already noted in another thread, noone ever mentions Wael. It's just as if he didn't exist. 2 - No really good Soulbound weapon to use ( Gyrd Haewanes Stenes is a Scepter, and though it's wearable from Priest I don't know why but I don't find it very fitting) But I reckon that this is all in my head... 3 - I HATE vessels as well as spirits. I'd like to be equally versatile Vs. these two kind of monsters... but how? I know I like dwarves, and I will play as one. Background will be either Noble or Ecclesiastic... maybe prefer noble.. I have a liking for Scholar too.. Back on the god, instead, Berath is the fitting God for the undead slayers. All I must do is try playing it because I always end up being too soft-hearted. I would like to have the +10ACC to the weapon, but in this case it's just no of use... Suggestions?

Lack of "personality" in the MC
Slack83er replied to Slack83er's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Yes, that's what I intended... no quest for paladins... no specific class quests.... no racial quests... that's what I'm missing... Anyway, hoping that will change in PoE2... I hope with cleric I can have a different approach... I only regret taking Durance out... He's fun... -

Yes, Aufra has a dialogue... but no different result... you just say to her you'll help.... that's the big deal... What do you mean making concept? I know I want to be a dwarf cleric or anyway pious devotee... I was also thinking of giving him a scepter... plus nobleman.... -
Lack of "personality" in the MC
Slack83er replied to Slack83er's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I've seen it.. it's in WM2... far far away from where I am... Paladins are leader yes... but according to wikia, priests also are. But while paladin cures all companions upon killing, priests can burn vessels and do greater damage if build mid-range PLUS cure... so I'm kinda reconsidering the thing... Furthermore, it seems to me that, while I AM wayfarer, noone ever tells me anything about it... It has come clear to me now, that PoE is Cipher-oriented and in second place Priest-oriented, if you want to RP.
