  1. But the mod is done. DONE. He wanted to end it; thus it is done. "want updates". All fun for them; but since when is paying for PATCHES become an accepted fact. Was it before or after paid Mods or paid "2 Textures" plugins? Black&White proofs you wrong! DAMN IT; I even bought the PoS myself for the full $50,- while I find it utter crap... Matrix Reloaded/Revolutions and Enter the Matrix were Supergood, don't you agree? After all it got many people to buy the game/ticket; and what sells good must be good. Windows XP is also a prime example of Excelence Unsurpassed AT ALL... the selling figures being so much higher than that of other OS must prove it cannot be any better in a gazillion years Cash + no more interest = No sign of quality. Whatever you may say about it motivating. Does Sequel 300424 for your favorite EA series is so much better than the previous; despite the fact they get loads of $ for each thus could be motivated for extreme quality-improvement? Then make it your job. Go to, say, Obsidian Entertainment and get bloody HIRED. You know it is going to be for free if you make mods... atleast... you KNEW. And the reason I don't buy a carbon copy is because of the bad experience with Half-Life and STEAM. GASP. A DD-delivery system... No WAY it is involved anyhow in the HL2 installation process. That is why everybody loved the install and nobody ever complained about it. Especially not the first few weeks " As I said a zillion times before such is fate if you mod. If you want to see $ go make it your work at a real company. . As obvious there is no way you can do in your living than modding. That is why there are also so many NWN mods. All people who cannot get the food on the table because they cannot work since modding is a 24/7 exploitation exercise... And "asking stuff" certainly always forced devs like, say, Obsidian Entertainment from releasing the actual end of Kotor2 if asked for it... Yup. Mods should be free. Read the EULA of any game with modding tools (to keep it easy just read NWN's one). This changed (for the worse!) when DD came around though; but I am not sure if we need to blame DD or just Valve. Point only is that Gary was already populair before selling stuff. That is a whole lot of difference than immediately asking cash before anybody knows the exact thing you sell (maybe because... it was FREE!)
  2. Most are already mentioned in the thread... but here it goes again; 1. Competition. If there is full support (by Bioware) on NWN there will be less people who want to step over since they can just stay with NWN1 2. People can use the money they otherwise spend on PM's to buy NWN2. Something which get's Atari money, while the PM's don't (or alot less) 3. If there is barely any support after NWN2's release, there cannot be any blame on the fact NWN still has; which would be bad publicity for OE and Atari 4. It allows Atari for less support for NWN2 (+$); seeing there should be no "support competition" from BioWare 5. There did was some D&D license violation in these PM's which made Atari give up the deal with BioWare 6. They might even be forced by WoTC or Hasbro How is a BioWare made PM for NWN2 (is that even allowed; them making paid mods for a game they didn't make themselves?) profitable in any way for Obsidian or Atari? Unless BioWare pays loads of $ in order to get rights to make PM's for NWN2, but I doubt it...
  3. Keep hearing this stuff about "It was scrapped for the ridable horses" OMFGZORS. But if that is the main reason. Besides; who the F*** cares for horses. After Oblivion I surely don't mind having to NEVER see them in RPG's again... There are way better reasons to think for scrapping; reasons who not only sound more reasonable, but are also alot more likely to be Atari's reason for the scrapping of the PM's... Not to say I agree with the descision, though... Yes. I had added "partially" infront of PS:T because it is, well, partially a D&D game (to me atleast...). Same with Kotor. The others (IWD, BG, NWN) are pure D&D though, that's why they didn't get "partially"
  4. Ok, so Kotor is space fantasy, but to call it a D&D title... The "partially" infront of PS:T is also in effect for Kotor. Seems like some words fell away from my post there; and I would like to edit the following sentance as to let it make sense Is supposed to be
  5. OMG. Don't let Warren Spector make a RPG/FPS hybrid as never seen before because he has no experience (d
  6. Being a football fan won't make you a good footballer... "
  7. Better get some profit than risk a full game that can make loss... And you must have some skill (in something) if you thought you were a gamer for the last 20 years while so obviously you don't... :D
  8. You are saying D&D titles sell too bad to get out of red numbers? If so why so many D&D games like IWD, BG, NWN, ToeE, (partially) PS:T, Kotor etc. Lol; if only D&D games can be made by one company how can it be such a game saved said company if this is the first financial crisis " If NWN2 generates enough cash I cannot see why they try to gain additional funds in the form of an expansion or downloable content for $. All to save the company. Why risk money in a game not sure it is going to make profit if you can guarantee profit with bringing an X-Pack for an allready well-sold and profitable-proven game? Everybody who can call him (or her)self a "gamer" does...
  9. As I said before that happened before. It wouldn't be the first... nor the last time atleast...
  10. The System Shock license is in EA's hands... no idea where the X-Com's is...
  11. Why not? If NWN2 appears to be their savior they might aswell throw a X-Pack to us to make even more out of it and give them a few months/years of survival...
  12. I was talking about the BioWare Forum Moderators. Wasn't that clear?
  13. We all know how rigged these guys are in making sure Pro-BioWare stuff remains. Yay if they can get people await from that awfull Obsidian, with it's policy to allow discussion instead of immediate locking all what is offensive to the company; and thus allow an actual community that doesn't suck (and (asskiss)... Troika, the modders-variety... "
  14. persueing the legalities WTF is that supposed to mean? And who posted that, it sounds alot now these modders just go on a personal vendetta and just scream murder. If I was Atari I might try to get some $ out of them with sue-ing EDIT; If that is one of the "official PM modders" they might take some freaking spellinglessons... sjeesh
  15. No Nor can you train the droids and Mandalore
  16. Used ME myself. Never noticed any problems. Ofcourse when I got my own PC and my parents got ahold of the ME-PC hell broke loose and the PC turned into utter crap (-2500% performance anyone?); but that says more about them than ME...
  17. Indeed. So why milk it out for the $? Bad side-effect of DD. The greed devs like Valve seem to show. And this is just the begin. How long till more and more mods become payable content? The first step on a awfully consumer-bloodriddled stair is taken... Time he could also dedicate making another new fun mod instead of continuing the already walked path... If he didn't want to mod any further... well; it already shows he already lost the magic and probably wouldn't show the same quality if he does need to continue; paid or not... READ... It helps alot! " Do you know if it interests him? I don't know. I probably never find out anyway either. All I know is that he wanted to give up and then the $ made him continue. Thus he wanted to end it... and was done with it. Lost motivation. What possibly could he add if he wanted to stop with it? All points aim at a big $-grabbing opportunity he seized with both hands. But only time will tell if the $10 gives additional bonusses or is just more of the same; only with 1 pixel more there and here...
  18. Really don't get the fuss. The number of games who had support for so long can be counted on a single hand, and seeing the financial situation of Atari and thus the fact NWN2 has to sell well it seems a pretty logical move...
  19. Coincidentally, I was the one who begged him to write that. But you don't agree with it... or? Main reason I think they won't do it is because a game usually looks quite different when shipped than what was planned. Tell me if you were a fan and followed Freelancers 5 year development of changes if anything that was in in the begin actually was shipped with retail? I doubt it. So many things got altered there you might become as fan to follow it all, and then you'll loose costumers. Do you wan't that? See how dissapointed people are with missing DMC, Kotor2 content, Unreal2 Astroid level, HL2 DM missing at release, cut horses for NWN2, scrapped mounted combat for Oblivion/NWN2 and multiply that with factor 10. But why do I type all this... Sawyer already said it in the link; probably better too...
  20. Probably the mod is done then; and the creator can either 1) stop modding 2) create new original content Instead of just adding stuff to the already done product just for the sake of cashing in $ (called "milking") and thereby also creating what DD should have made less; Sequel-forming (altough it can hardly be called a sequel; I hope you get what I mean... more of the same instead of new stuff) And just to mention; I don't play HL2 or Gary's Mod. Bad experiences with Steam/HL and DD made up for that...
  21. Happens. Darwinia...
  22. Supporting my claim DD makes for additional milking. Without DD this would never happened... And then see most "high profile" games still sale as retailprice on DD and you quickly get the idea it goes the same with DD as with retail now. The big make big titles for max. profit and min. creativity and some independant indie devs get between that trying to make creative games that deliver enough to get some profit and allow them to make another creative game... Same situation; only more $ for the "high profile devs" and loads of lost jobs; making unemployement rates rise... Paying for mods... NOT my bright future vision...
  23. Based on the fact that if you use content of the maker of the game and then sell it yourself the maker is going to Sue your ass off. It's all in the EULA. Fine if you make mods for the game; but for NON-COMMERCIAL REASONS. I have no problems with the Red Orchestra dudes; they won an license and used it to make their game. All fair and nice. But where is the sign this "License purchasing" happened with the ship and Garry's mod. Nowhere. Prob. because it never happened in the first place. Wow, Valve is breaking his own EULA. Maybe time for us to sue them? " Result; There is no sold version cause there is a full stand-alone game now. No. You have to pay for a MOD. Free modification. Hell, if you pay $10,- can you play Garry's without HL2...? If you wan't to make cash DON'T make a freaking mod. Go work for a real company. Make your own game instead of editing anothers...
  24. J.E. Sawyer explains
  25. Know what the word MOD means? Mods are supposed to be free. Hell, before you couldn't even sell them cause that would break a contract with the makers of the game (and thus modtools)... Because it is no longer free?
