JE didn't actually confirm that Ferret left Obs, it was NWN2News that claim that they've 'confirmed' it. For all we know, maybe Ferret was just removed from the Bioboards PRECISELY because he's not working specifically on NWN2 anymore.

From NWN2News: "I received a PM today from a source that pointed out Ferret is not only no longer listed as a developer/moderator on the Biosidian forums, but also no longer has his Obsidian developer tag on his past posts. I went to the forums to verify this, and it seems that is indeed the case. We are not sure what to make of this and are looking into it. We will update you as we get further information. UPDATE We have confirmed Ferret is no longer at Obsidian, we wish him well." He's not wearing his dev tag on the relevant Bioboards, but still has them here. What's with this 'confirmation'? What's going on? What happens to NWN2 if the lead designer does indeed leave? We must know!

Man, Chrono Trigger is the awesomestest RPG ever. The protagonist never speaks, the game just makes decisions on his behalf. I get to apply my full-blown imagination and affect the game in significant and existent ways. That is AWESOME.
