Susan Wilson's Kickstarter discussion (split topic)
alanschu replied to babaganoosh13's topic in Computer and Console
Pledges haven't skyrocketed because I think there's a counterpoint that the entire request is a lot more bogus than Anita's was. Still, I doubt this gets to $20k without some of the angst that went around, while at the same time Ms. Wilson is now something of a celebrity (for now). I'd love to see her follow up on her threat, however. I'll bring the popcorn. -

This is part of the irony. The extreme reaction only helped give it visibility and exposure. -
If Iggy meshes well enough, it might not matter if Fleury goes into the tank

Yeah Iginla should help out the Pens quite a bit. Jeez haha. On top of Crosby reasserting his dominance this season they could go on quite the run.

I'd probably agree that DAO was less divisive than DA2 was in general. I found DA2 polarizing, where there were those that disliked it and those that still liked it, and they both pushed themselves to the extremes because internets. It probably also depends on timing and just where one happens to be (no one goes to Tech Support forum to tell me I am awesome).

There is also the issue of Twitter spam as well. The whole KS just leaves a bad taste in my mouth, and as the Anita thread shows I'm the pinko white knight feminist advocate! -
I think for many (including myself), the games strike an emotional chord. I think this is why many were so let down by the ending of Mass Effect 3, because they were so emotionally invested in the setting/characters/Shepard/whatever else. It started in its roots with BG1 which was a good PnP adaptation IMO, but BG2 is where the characters really started to shine (it's also what introduced the romances), and as such that level of emotional investment is what many seek from the games. I think those that still get that are typically happy, while those that don't get that feeling (for whatever their reasons may be) are the ones that feel more angered/dejected. That's my "I have given this about 5 minutes of analysis" response.

I actually agree, though that ship has sailed so we have to roll with it haha.

Yeah I agree with the issues mute and others have put forward. At first I was like "meh feel good story, I don't really care." But upon seeing the rules, I don't like the idea of this continuing on even if it's a "feel good story" (which I'm less inclined to think it is) because it seems to me that there are very serious terms of use violations. The cynic in me also recognizes that Kickstarter will profit from this. -
I agree it doesn't indicate that Shepard is going to go back to the Alliance. I guess it was just one of those things that I interpolated while playing the newer game (cognitive dissonance avoider or something). So, yes, I didn't know that Shepard was going back to the Alliance, but it was easy enough for me to accept that he did between the games. I'm thinking back to NWN OC, KOTOR's consolification, as well as Jade Empire (when I left) console exclusiveness. At which point I ended up here. DA2 (and ME3) is probably the loudest, sure, but the BSN has always suffered from "we're a very large online community" (similar to Blizzard's forums) which meant the signal to noise ratio tends to be quite low, in my opinion. I didn't follow DA2 on the boards. I stopped following the BSN as an employee, after a brief stint of support for DAO where I was inundated with waves of petulant rage. Some guy once sent me a PM stating how he wished I was aborted as a fetus so that someone competent could have QA'd Dragon Age: Origins, because it was obvious we only did a half assed job of finding and fixing serious and obvious issues with the game. After 2 weeks of dealing with throngs of posters that were acting like that, I had to tell the guy I was helping out that I was done and doing other offline work.

5 Mbps is still plenty speedy. I was on 7.5Mbps for a long time and the only reason why I moved up to 25 Mbps was because they offered me a long time customer deal so the cost was literally the same as 7.5Mbps.

To be fair I didn't look at the kickstarter page haha. Does look interesting in a 5 second glance, though money is tight so I suspect I won't be contributing. The coop sounds interesting though and will likely be the catalyst for me.

Haha I had do deal with 28kbps when growing up because we were out in the country. Finding a download service that let me resume downloads was pretty much a top priority. Fortunately we still didn't have a cap, so I downloaded a lot over nights.

I only played the first (which was enjoyable). I'm a bit surprised it's getting anything but an indifferent reaction haha. Were the subsequent ones more enjoyable? Or am I just too hard on the original?!
-
Most people do. But then I rate the game more highly more because "it's awesome" as opposed to "it's long."
-
As my gaming time diminishes, I find hours of play becomes a less important metric. 15 hours of all awesome is better than 30 hours that is 15 hours of awesome and 15 hours of okay, IMO. Oblivion helped teach me this (which was 0 hours of awesome and like 30 hours of "Meh what am I doing I am wasting my time...")

I have been using a Samsung 24" for the last 3 years (and it was used) so yay me! :D

Failing to meet targets doesn't have to mean "unprofitable." Though I'd agree that if they failed to meet targets, I'm curious what the hell their targets were!

According to online, my sword just suffers -5 every combat (but gains +9 if the combat involved dragons). I had no clue about that before plopping down 45k gold on it hahaha.
-
I must say that item morale was not covered sufficiently (as in not at all) as I learn my dragon sword of awesome is no longer usable (and there's no way I can suppress it at my current level)

I'd consider your definition of minority as being quite narrow. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minority_group (emphasis mine) Scuba diving isn't a social issue. However, if the state decided to restrict the rights and privileges of individuals because they are scuba divers, it quickly becomes one if scuba divers mobilize to make it one. Although the primary difference as to whether or not it gains legitimacy is the degree of choice someone has in the matter. People don't choose to be gay, so the analogy would probably be more apt along the lines of whether or not someone was, say, left handed instead of right handed. Furthermore, being gay is about a lot more than who sticks what and does what in the bedroom (since a being can still be homosexual and heterosexual even if they never have sex, ever, in their lives).

Agreed on all counts. I don't know much at all about Ignus, and Nordom was also a lesser used character as well, so I happily concede those points. Though, when the game is called "Torment" I don't really find it that surprising.

I have 25 Mbps which I find plenty fast. But 4 GB urgh....

Intrigued.

Haha. Games is pretty much my only principal big download. I occasionally watch things on netflix, but don't even have torrent software or things like that to help eat up my bandwidth. Fortunately the provider I have doesn't have me on a contract (though the competitor does require contracts).
