Who owns Obsidian?
I am pretty sure they will put all that money into development (although I don't think there is any obligation to). In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if additional money was still put into it beyond that. Yes their sales will still make a profit, and yeah they don't need to turn a ton of sales. Although Feargus has stated that he would love to not have to use Kickstarter again in the future, so it'll still need to have decent sales in order to do that, IMO.

The Kickstarter Thread
Despite your attempts to redefine the world to your liking, they're still separate games. Gaming industry in general is filled with clones, for better or worse. If your goal is to have a discussion about MMOs while applying your own, Bester-unique definitions, then I will concede and you have won the argument. I disagree with your distinction, and I think it's clear this discussion isn't going anywhere since we don't seem to be playing by the same rules and definitions. You win.

The Kickstarter Thread
If you wish to discount MMOs because "I don't like them" that's one thing. But that's pretty myopic and not really relevant when discussing relevant MMOs in the marketplace. I don't play any of them (played lots of WoW and some TOR, and have realized I am burnt out on MMOs) but I can still recognize that there are plenty of "viable" MMOs out there.

Eh, it's just a matter of making sure your zots are properly accounted for.

It's also something that could potentially just need a significant investment to do well.

Disney shuts down Lucas Arts
No, but they could probably rely on readily available analog controllers, if they felt like it.

I actually liked that the uncle escaped haha. Although bagging around in the Millennium Falcon was still pretty amazing.

Torment: Tides of Numenera
It's also impossible to say what every other development studio would have contributed personally. I mean, if Torment is almost done and needs an extra $10k, what are the odds that Fargo doesn't pony it up?

Don't forget that Steam will take their cut (usually believed to be about 30%).

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS!
Not always in a good way, however. Paying lip service during development so that, after release, those that were interested realize it was just lip service will only serve to anger/frustrate people. Imagine if Fallout 3 had paid lip service to the fact that it could be an isometric RPG if it never really had the intent of being so. At least fans that want the isometric RPG don't have any false expectations and can write the game off and move on. Or complain incessantly about it. Either way they probably gain some level of satisfaction.

The Kickstarter Thread
I likely would only contribute enough for a digital copy anyways. They did mention that it should work fine (I asked them). MOM was one of my favourite games growing up, but I couldn't remember it for years until I saw it on GoG and went "HMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm is that the game I think it is??!" And it was! I have played dozens of games already this year as I was feeling the itch. Good chance I might contribute to this, but am still thinking about it.

Which is precisely why the sudden shift to supernatural immediately sold me off of Thief.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. If it's in pounds, can I still contribute? >.>

What are you playing now?
I don't find it this simple. It's difficult to step back in to a much longer game if you've been gone for a while (this has happened to me as well). If I have 10 hours of gaming, all on one weekend a month, a 10 hour game that can be played through until completion may be more satisfying than trying to put yourself back into the game mid stride.

Susan Wilson's Kickstarter discussion (split topic)
Hahaha I haven't really been following this. Really? HAHAHA.

Torment: Tides of Numenera
EH, he has likely pledged to contribute. That his account hasn't been charged yet is mostly just semantics. I haven't been following the updates, but I am somewhat curious what is in that video now.... Hahaha.
