Regarding the fee: http://www.vg247.com/2012/10/18/valve-adds-concept-section-to-greenlight/

Had a feeling that a new post in this thread would be about the Greenlight process haha. The WarZ debacle is certainly interesting. It definitely calls into question any sort of insistence on quality before approval is allowed. I remember Greenlight originally cost $100 for the submission (which would later be given to Child's Play charity - I've always wondered what type of tax benefits this can give a corporation, however). Though it sounds like that fee has been waived.

High end graphics are killing the games industry
alanschu replied to Bokishi's topic in Computer and Console
They are starting to lose more and more lawsuits, I am finding. -
I have no doubt that they are suspects. I was just under an assumption that the video would show it. I'm not faulting the FBI or anything, more just making a comment. Given the destination (Boston, large scale event, and Boston's ties to American Independence), I would not be surprised if the attack was by domestic individuals.

Unless I am mistaken, isn't the "Greenlight" simply an page that says "do you want to play this game?" I'm talking about the costs of actually putting the game up for sale. Granted it's probably not a lot of work, but it's not like it's going to be a simple switch flip.

I don't actually see anything incriminating in that video (not sure if we're supposed to, however). But if they have a lead, I wish them luck.

I wouldn't call it altruistic. It still takes time (and hence money) to properly set up a game and support it. If they do that for just any game and that game sells 50 copies in its lifetime, then it was a waste of Valve's time. They basically are using buzz to direct where they spend their efforts, because ultimately games with lots of buzz are the ones most likely to have associated sales. It provides a criteria for the vetting process and just comes across as smart business IMO.

Agreed. It was crazy watching runners that pretty much didn't break stride, they just stopped running a race and started running to help. Not just the runners, but everyone. Cheers mate!

32 The ones that got me were when I realized I was older than a lot of pro athletes, as well as when I realized I had lived more years without a brother than with one.

155+ posts Free virtual hi-fives, all around? I made 155+ posts in that thread? What? I'm confused haha.

I enjoyed this: http://www.juancole.com/2013/04/bombings-increase-sympathy.html I particularly enjoyed the rather glowing remarks people from other countries that suffered from similar attacks had for the United States, in particularly the remarkably levels of compassion and humanity displayed by law enforcement and even just ordinary citizens. Or the idea that the US is still held in rather high regard for the freedoms that are granted to its citizenry. Even as a Canadian, I think it's easy to take for granted how good it often is for us. I've become jaded to political talk on a lot of western forums because it's sofa king polarizing that I find it nauseating. Just wanted to share this to maintain some perspective that us North Americans still have it pretty sweet, even if there are Americans that seem to feel that the US is on an express lane to hell in a handbasket (some Canadians too, though I think we're far too polite to get as militant about it). I'm not a big fan of the mild shaming attempt at the end (people in America will feel more threatened by an attack in the US, simply because it hits closer to home. Doesn't make them horrible human beings for not echoing the same amount of compassion for other countries that suffer through this). And I don't intend for this message to be any sort of shaming for those that are indifferent towards what goes on in the Middle East or anywhere else. I'd love for something like this to help unite the whole world together against these sort of attacks. Kind of like the one fellow that posted that he was able to reassure himself that, with all the displays of helpers and good people in the wake of these events, the good outnumber the bad and always will.

I prefer stretch goals with ambition... (I'm mostly just making this post so that I get the speech balloon next to the thread, reminding me that Past-Allan once considered this thread worthy of his attention.

Balmorra my friend. Balmorra. Be gentle... they've had a rough go at it for a while now!

I think on some level the content was created (especially in some later levels where speeders are more likely to be had) where the vastness was created simply to create a sense of vastness. You can argue if it's appropriate for game design or not, but a place like Hoth or Tatooine could be argued that it should be rather vast with some emptiness, given the nature of those types of planets.

While I can empathize with the devs and contributors of projects that have issues, I must admit that my human nature (which leads to unexpected and perhaps unwarranted bouts of spitefulness, or maybe more specifically: skoodenfroody) has led to some level of sarcastic "What, it's not all roses and butterflies!?" after many, many people assuring me that this was all going to be awesomesauce.

If it is, no one told me about it!

Now I'm playing "Yay get a new SSD for work!" which was immediately followed up with "FFUUUUU now I have to reconfigure my new system and make sure I get all my important files... :@ :@ :@"

I find it reasonably easy to recognize it's a game, and typically find the Soviet Front to be filled with many interesting battles and scenarios.

You probably said the same about the game you liked the most before PST!

If you were thinking of Bugs Bunny "What a maroon" then you indeed picked up the reference. And yeah, I think we have all had problems only to realize that the solution was actually quite trivial, regardless of what it is we are doing haha. Although, I prefer the trivial solution and me going "wow I'm dumb!" since it's solved, rather than "FFFUUUUUU this problem is SUPER hard to solve." At least in practical application!

Well, too be fair, that one 1% case is perhaps slightly understated, aaaaaaaaand that 1% issue was pretty gamebreaking in terms of what was happening with my lighting HAHA. It was definitely "unshippable" IMO lol. Buuut, all for the learnings! It's been fun.
-
Why do that when I can fiddle around with non-commutative matrix multiplication causing my tests to work 99% of the time, but causing subtle issues in the 1% that confuse the bejebus out of me, only to realize that the issues are in fact because I am a maroon!!!!

More OpenGL shaders and raytracing!
