  1. I don't remember the exact numbers, but those were only the ones that hit. There were undoubtedly more planes in the air that missed! It was the Nagato though. I hate to see what kind of force he'd send out if he saw the Yamato!
  2. Nah, I use the middle click because it's virtually every link I click on, including those that don't open up new windows.
  3. Pfft. The cool dudes just use the middle mouse button.
  4. I hope so. The Contrast between the buttons and background is very, very sharp. The text on the buttons is also too similar. I imagine these things will change as things get ironed out.
  5. I think that the reply screen is way too busy.
  6. They air CS and Halo tournaments on the sports channels. It's a hand-eye coordination sport... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Since when does that determine whether or not an activity is considered a sport? Poker is a sport!
  7. I'm unfamiliar with the technical aspects of older games, but was the source included with Ultima III?
  8. Hong Kong has been liberated! In addition, Victoria Point, along the West Coast of Siam on the Bay of Bengal has also been taken. I currently have my surface combat fleet, with 6 Battleships, 3 Light Cruisers, and 6 long range Bagley-class Destroyers zipping around the Philippines Sea. I have 2 CVs and 2 CVLs following it around, providing air support. This arrangement is nice because if anything enters the same hex as the Carrier Task Force, the Surface Fleet moves to intercept. Now normally this isn't a big issue, as it's not uncommon for my Air Combat fleet to not be engaged by enemy vessels in the same hex, as they are usually transports. Carrier Task Force commanders opt to never put the carriers in danger, and don't seem to ever engage, but their escort ships seem to do a decent enough job of dissuading all but larger/better equipped enemy forces from attacking. That, and air missions are typically flown before surface combat is initiated, anything in the same hex as my carriers is often blown to smithereens. But! Sometimes weather sucks, or it is night time. While I don't usually get attacked, as it's frequently an enemy transport, I don't attack back either until the morning. So my Surface Combat Task Forces (with RADAR equipped ships) will instead pick them off. Numerous 14" and 16" guns, and an ungoldy number of 5" guns, make short work of anything I have encountered so far. It also protects my carriers from an unlucky encounter with an enemy Battleship fleet at night (which is possible, but has not happened to me yet). It also lets me save air missions, which I chew through like a maniac bombing every other ship in the neighbourhood. It's also a good way to "clean up" a damaged task force, so that my air units don't accidentally attack an already crippled ship if there are other targets nearby. It also seems to work nicely in term of baiting enemy naval bombers. Most of my Hellcats are set for CAP (Combat Air Patrol) to protect against enemy air attacks. They tend to protect the entire hex. So if they attack the battleship fleet, my Hellcats will protect it. Which means if by some fluke they haven't yet detected my Carrer Task Force, they may launch an attack against my Battleships. With every ship of mine having RADARs, including the very nice CPS-1 long range Air RADAR on my carriers, they can easily detect incoming bombers and scramble fighters. The end result is usually heavy losses (and sometimes total annihilation) of the enemy attack. The CAP of the Hellcats is very thick, especially since 4 squadrons (2x36 and 2x21 in size) from the 4 carriers can contribute. The only recent incident that had Japanese bombers even get torpedos away was when I faced a hundred or so planes off the coast of Tokyo. Most were shot down or buggered off, and only a handful of Betty's were able to drop the torpedoes, with no hits. One day, about 240 miles away from Tokyo, I faced a few raids from both Osaka and Tokyo, with no hits against. I shot down over 100 aircraft between air to air combat and FlaK fire that day. It was a good day. All this came a few days after I stumbled across BB Nagato steaming through the Philippine Sea by herself. 30 1000 lb bombs and 9 torpedoes hit in the airstrike against her, and she sunk.
  9. Awww, too bad the destructable environment is "weak" in UFO. I loved going full auto with the autocannon in the original XCOM.

Hemsky is taking responsibility for the Czech-Mates line not playing well it seems. He had an article in The Sun today, and it was pretty interesting. Says he's not content with hearing that he's going to be a star in the league, but that he wants people to say that he is a star in this league. And not just by scoring points. 120 points but missing the playoffs is worthless to him. He'd much rather get 60 points and help his team make the playoffs.
  11. Morale is very important in the Total War games. YOu have to keep your flanks covered, and try to get the enemy in theirs. Nothing ruins your day more than a full on Cavalry charge to the back of your unit engaged in combat. And unfortunately, fear is contagious. I've sworn at my computer on more than one occasion for the weakling serfs panicing and spreading general disorder throughout my ranks.
  12. That actually made me laugh out loud. That picture you showed looks nice. Me likey strategy games.
  13. AAR = After Action Report. As long as people find it interesting I'll keep it up. I've slowed down a bit on the updates, but I'll have a bit more time to play in the next couple of days.
  14. Just curious, are people still reading (and more importantly enjoying) the AAR?
  15. It is hard being alanschu. Fortunately I have years of experience. I may or may not (but probably will) investigate these at one time or another.
  16. That's pretty much exactly the same way I felt about Shadowgrounds. I really enjoyed the demo, and I considered buying it. Then I realized that I had enjoyed the demo for what it was, and didn't really feel a huge desire to play much further. I'll have to give this AS2 demo a whirl then.
  17. Remember what happened last time a few states tried to seceed? The US is like a mafia family. As Tony Soprano would say "once you come into the family, there is no gettin' out". <{POST_SNAPBACK}> cept that california is currently the worlds fourth largest economy on its own. And all the eastern states would no longer have easy access to far east companies. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes they would. It'd be a bit more costly, but both the Suez Canal and the Panama Canal were created for a reason.
  18. Hey, sometimes it's not who did it better, but rather who did it first. I strongly suggest dropping the Alien game, since it's like, doomed and all that now.
  19. I'm not sure what you mean here when you use the word robust. I can't make sense of this. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think you understand the context in which it is being offered. In other words, yes, the AI is trying to win using strategies that are comparable to your own but is also playing based on a "personality" that does not also go for the bottom-line mathematical advantage. If it is not playing "robust", then I simply mean it is going through the motions but not really trying to win (i.e. the easy mode). <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Actually I didn't. I thought you were talking about how it would never play a "robust game with dairy farms" as in, it never use a robust dairy farm strategy.
  20. I will use a silencer. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not really sure how you silence and explosion.
  21. Why specifically those values? Why 5%, and 15%?
  22. Only if you exclude that evil right-wing corporations, that likely vote conservative since it's the most business friendly, often pony up the billions of dollars to do this research.
