  1. I'm not even thinking of Herve as a failed game developer. The financial situation of Interplay surely must scream "High Risk." Even if they secured funding, I'm sure Bethesda is looking at it from a "what you have isn't good enough" perspective.
  2. Colonization is good fun, as is Master of Orion. MOO1 and MOO2 have special places in my youth for wasting hours upon hours of my life. MOO3 was junk though, and it takes a lot for me to say that about a franchise I love
  3. Oh? What banks was Herve able to sucker?
  4. So? So you have to be blind or retarded to mix them up. Or someone that has heard about a very popular new game called "Fallout 3" that is buying the "Fallout Trilogy" as a gift for someone. It would mean that you would have to know that Fallout: Tactics, is not Fallout 3. Of course YOU know the difference. You're familiar with the other games.
  5. So? I agree with Matthew that it's absurd to call something the "Fallout Trilogy" that doesn't include Fallout 3. Sounds to me like Interplay is trying to cash in on the success of Fallout 3. It's irrelevant that they state the three games, as it's disingenuous to refer to it as the Fallout Trilogy. It'd be positively ludicrous, and probably even more liable, if they didn't.
  6. Ironically her post seems all the more appropriate, given your response.
  7. Exploring the .ini and .xml files of JA2. I think I will tweak them. Suppression is likely to get jacked up from the 20% I have now
  8. This I could actually see haha. Eddo was notorious for stupid threads. His were more random for shock value though.
  9. I don't ever recall that happening, but I never tried for headshots with the tranq darts. As for what I'm playing, I keep restarting my JA2 1.13 game. Right now I'm going with 6 custom mercs, no Bobby Ray's, on Expert (Insane scares me ). I am allowed to shop locally though. I'm not allowed to hire any mercs outside of people already in Arulco. I do have drop all enabled, though I might turn that off simply to keep my inventory management bearable! At the same time, I need something to take on those effing elites and their G3A3 rifles on Day 3!
  10. If you can't afford to wait, then you made a mistake somewhere
  11. Were you disappointed when you learned you weren't going to be Revan in KOTOR 2? The big problem with the Exile is that he's ridiculously powerful by the end of KOTOR 2. Either you make a gimmick to weaken his power, or you're having him fight ridiculously powerful bosses in order to provide any sort of challenge.
  12. Errr, not to be too harsh, but I absolutely cannot understand how being "forced" to make a decision in an appreciable amount of time ruins "immersion." This just sounds like you're being completely closed minded to the idea, and neglecting it simply because it's different. AP is trying to, ironically, actually immerse you in the character of Michael Thorton, where in real life you don't have an infinite amount of time to respond to someone that is talking to you. Especially if they are pointing a gun at you. How much thought, really, does it take to decide between a Professional, Aggressive, or Suave response? Especially given you can (and should) already be thinking about what type of response you want to make as the character is in fact talking to you. This is actually a lot easier to do than you might think, because you have an entire lifetime of experience doing just that. If this is something that you think will block you, then I'd be more inclined to say that you're indecisive, rather than truly seeking "immersion."
  13. Tranq darts are ridiculously effective. Most guys just need a single one to take them down. You just need to wait until the dart has done it's work. If you can hide out of sight, the enemy has no chance. It's easily my preferred weapon for the first couple of levels. Also, if you have a high skill and hit them in the head, JC can sometimes drop most enemies in one shot with the tranq darts. Not MJ12 commandos, I don't think. But everything up to and including men in black. It also works underwater. Great weapon. To be clear, you can drop them in one shot pretty much regardless of where you hit them. You just need to wait for the tranquilizer to put them to sleep. MJ12 commandos are resistant to the poison effect so it's useless on them.
  14. People do read them. Just because they rip them to shreds because they're convoluted, poorly thought out, and at times even hypocritical, doesn't mean that people don't read them!
  15. Ooooo. Time to cash in my free game I think!
  16. Haha, maybe it's just be, but it seems marketing shows a lot more of the game than I would have liked. I guess I'm glad that in most cases, if there's a game I'm interested in, I tend to ignore it before release.
  17. If the gameplay demos are any indication, there's no shortage of checkpoints.
  18. I'm not sure if I'd necessarily want to continue playing as either Exile or Revan. I enjoyed NOT being Revan as I played the Exile, simply because it was different.
  19. If Steam actually did that (it doesn't) it would be, well, exactly what people rant about SecuROM for. Steam doesn't get criticised as much because of the built in Valve fanbo^H^H^H^H fanbase but don't kid yourself, in every substantive measure it's as bad if not worse than activation SecuROM. Steam doesn't get criticized as much because it's transparent in what you're getting, and it's very good at what it does. If you want to argue that it's worse than "limited" installs then that is your prerogative. I wholeheartedly disagree. It's anecdotal sure, but I know plenty of non Valve fanboys that enjoy Steam (I'm not one of them... I am a Valve fanboy that loves steam. I also love Direct2Drive, Impulse, and Gamer's Gate).

  21. Going exploring is usually something tangential to a mainline quest. You won't find the large open areas that are there purely for exploration like the spider infested Cloak Wood. I do agree with Morgoth that 3D does seem to limit the ability to mimic the vastness of areas such as those displayed in the Infinity Engine. I'm an experienced gamer, and I think hitting 80-100 hours might be a bit casual of a playthrough, or at least a particularly thorough one. Mind you, the game clock on my playthrough I believe was 60ish hours, so that doesn't include the numerous times that I died and reloaded. Though it does include idle time.
  22. The average gamer is also the one that likes Bastila's turn to the darkside. I never found it jarring because I saw it coming a mile away. If anything I'd slag on BioWare for making it so obvious that Bastila would be susceptible to the darkside. Ironically the thing I felt was most jarring about BG2 was the ridiculously inappropriate times that these conversations would start up. Sorry Aerie, but I don't have time to deal with you. You see that gigantic Silver/Red/Black dragon? I'd like to deal with that first. But because they had the dialogues set to only happen if the area was of the correct type, they wouldn't happen during the copious amount of downtime walking around during the Underdark for instance.
  23. You could also go through the entire romance by simply never moving with the game paused (i.e. no passage of time at all in the game) when you were in an appropriate location for romances to fire, since the romances were based on the real time clock.
