This isn't just about making it a few more darkspawn you'll need to fight (especially since it isn't darkspawn attacking Redcliffe). I'll concede the game could give players the option of skipping the fight for the town, skipping Redcliffe entirely would effectively destroy a large chunk of the main plot. I am trying to not play spoiler so I won't say much more, but avoiding the conflict in Redcliffe altogether would require significant amounts of additional story work to allow the player to continue to play through the game in any sort of a plausible manner.

If you are actively trying to find fault in the game, you'll find it, and you'll have ended up wasting your money on a game you don't enjoy.

It costs twice as much though and has DRM so, yeah, I would still recommend the GoG version... The GoG version doesn't come with Unfinished Business though. (Though I have heard it's not really worth it, that's beside the point). Given the accusation that the Steam version won't allow mods, it doesn't matter. It was an issue in the past (same with paradox games) but from what I can tell, they have worked on that.

Since a lot of SW games have come to Steam...

That sucks sure, but ultimately has very little bearing as to weather or not you can play the game. I'm not surprised that BioWare had a lack of foresight with respect to digital downloads of KOTOR. -

Is this simply to post on BioWare's forums and to have it say that you own KOTOR under your user page? -
There's no issues with the 1.13 mod on the Steam version.

Just because you still end up going through and killing the same horde, doesn't mean that things play through exactly the same. I don't follow BioWare's marketing various much, but most people seem to say "ho-hum same claims as always" so I don't know if they've necessarily cranked up the hypometer up to turbo. Given that particular plot point, you could decide to not try to fight the horde to get to the end of it, but it'd be akin to just quitting the game and saying you're not going to bother. I know we all have this pipe dream of how awesome it would be to have this game that literally let us do whatever we want in any of the game situations, as well as have the game appropriately react in distinctly different ways for each of our decisions, but that's not going to happen. I'd love for it to, but I just can't see how that would be feasible if the game wanted to have any hope of being anything but a huge time and money sink. Besides, as a fan of the original Baldur's Gates, I wouldn't think that this would be an issue for you.

Fallout 3 does have fast travel. If you wander aimlessly you probably won't find much, but honestly I think a bit of that is the fault of the roleplayer playing the game. Different strokes for different folks, but I expected a somewhat desolate area, and when I walked up to the bridge to get a high vantage point of the area, I got that feeling of "I'm alone" that, wel, you probably SHOULD get. There's a bit of eerieness about Fallout 3 that I really enjoyed. Like how there could easily be a supermutant waiting for me around that corner, or a raider waiting to snipe me from an elevated position, with traps protecting the way up to him. Usually I was wrong, but I loved that on edge feeling.

Cool. I noticed one not so great thing in the Bella video; the PC is apparently wearing some magic armor, and there is some purple effects raising from it during conversation. If the helmet is always removed automatically in conversations, why not magic effects like that? Not a game ruining flaw, far from it, but little stupid in my opinion. Probably because the magic effect has been applied to the armor specifically. They're completely removing the helmet (and any effects attached to it) for conversations, which is a pretty easy thing to find on an actor in a conversation. To worry about spell effects would be digging down more layers.

At least you got a young goal scorer, not some veteran on the verge of retiring. Mike Comrie gets his name chanted in Edmonton after getting 4 assists in a 4-0 win over the Panthers.

Fallout 3 is certainly different than the first two. I enjoyed it a lot, especially since I could have the graphics cranked up. In Oblivion I found myself using fast travel all the time. In Fallout 3, I actually enjoyed walking throughout the wasteland. Especially if I needed to go into the downtown core.

The game was released in 1999, so I would hope so! I ran it on a Duron 650 Mhz IIRC

I have been hearing about JA2 for almost a month in this forum, and I still have no idea WHAT THE HECK JA2 STANDS FOR AND WHAT KIND OF GAME IT IS!!!!!!!!!! Pleasehelpme..... Jagged Alliance 2. It's a turn based strategy game focused on squad level combat. And it's freaking awesome!

Don't be ashamed of actually enjoying a game. It's presumably why you play the game!

And therein lies the rub. All the cutscenes and 'choices' and influence points with NPCs resulted in... the same outcomes. Which is what Bioware does. How about... "I chose not to seek help, and despite fighting valiantly we were forced to retreat from the monstrous horde. From our vantage point we had to watch the villagers slaughtered, their houses burnt, their crops despoilt. We could not return again to seek aid or succour or +5 magical swords from the blacksmith or indulge in puerile dialogue asking a barmaid for a kiss." Why, Bio? WHY? What games actually do that though? How much branching for a several hour long plot do you allow before you realize that you're really just making two separate disjoint plots?

What does that have to do with buying the game through Steam? -

At the same time, Paradox suffers from the QA issues of smaller developers. Hearts of Iron III is the latest in their series of games where release is marred by bugs and performance issues. -
Trying to get HAM 3.5 to work with JA2 1.13

I liked the sniper for my first playthrough too

IMO you're missing out on one of the best 4x games ever made. If you have an issue with the exploitation of the natives in that game, don't do it. Nothing prevents you from befriending them. As the French you get bonuses dealing with them. Pretty much only the Spanish have a specific incentive to attack natives, based on their bonus. Besides, Civilization most definitely does recreate historical injustice in exactly the same way as Colonization does. I find it bizarre that you have issues with a game that lets you conquer natives as the Spanish, while have no problems with one that lets you conquer the Zulu as the English. Heck, Civ IV lets you create the world in such a way that there is a "New World" that has nothing but "Barbarians" on the western continent. I'm very surprised that this is an issue for someone, but c'est la vie. I suggest playing the game.

Oh I sees! Touche Gifted one. Touche. For what it's worth, those that are concerned about the "content" of Colonization, I'll just say that the original Colonization (played way back in the day) is probably my favourite non-MOO 4x game. I might give Civ4 a nod, but there is something remarkably charming about that game. Plus, the intricate economy (compared to Civ games) of harvesting resources, building the workshops to create manufactured goods, to either trade them with Europe, other New World colonies, or even the natives, is a ton of fun. I never did play the new one, but it was remade because Colonization fans have been begging for it to be remade for years. The game is flippin' fun!

Because a game that lets you beat up BOTH is just super awesome. The big thing is, it's fun! Getting that subjective thing out of the way, it's fun managing the relationships with the natives, whether its in an exploitative (i.e. Spanish haha) way, or getting them to help you and help your settlements grow. Playing the game of cat and mouse, and getting all the advantages the natives had against you, while fighting the national army after declaring independence is also fun. Scoring big and finding that mountain range with lots of silver, only to have to decide between the 7% increase in tax or having a "Silver Party" is one of those frustrating "**** you" moments, but in a good way.

PC Gamer October preview PDF file
alanschu replied to funcroc's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
I have no issues with PDFs. They seem common enough and have the added bonus of only needing a free download to view them.
