  1. i think microsoft buying obsidian may perhaps be a bad thing because the only game microsoft did that barely resembles poe and a crpg is Fable . i hope they dont try to make obsidian a copy of bethesda and ignore all obsidian CRPG titles.
  2. Are the background dialogues really linked to the culture of your character ? for example do the dialogues of the Philosopher background mention Ixamitl at some point ? Im thinking on possibly editing my character using the opencharactercreation console command and the mod that enables all backgrounds for any culture. perhaps changing to the mystic or clergy background (my character is a priest/druid) . My idea originally was to be philosopher because of Ixamitl focus on philosophy, but if the dialogues of Philosopher do not mention Ixamitl, then perhaps changing to mystic or clergy could be better. Than again, what is the difference between philospher and mystic ? is it noticeable in conversations or its almost the same thing ?
  3. In some universes, such as call of cthulhu , berserk anime, demon souls , etc. demonic alien figures created the Universe. what if there was a plot twist in pillars that the deities were created by the engwithians to block these entities from influencing the universe ? i think it could be an interesting twist story-wise (but perhaps too dark for pillars of eternity) . it could also explain the existence of skaen, who could be a weaker form of these entities that did a pact with the gods to keep existing in the pantheon and acting as a diplomat between the gods and the entitites while the engwithians extingued most of the cult of the demonic cosmic entities.
  4. In my opinion it would be kinda disapointing if the watcher vanished. if pillars 3 will not have you play as the watcher, the game should still have the watcher and older characters as npcs. im all for having most of the characters from pillars 1 and 2 back, but some of them should be npcs. for example, it makes sense to have pallegina or kana and maia as npcs, since they are linked to their factions. durance also makes sense as a npc. either as a ghost in the service of magran or as an anti-theist aninmancer, depending of your choice in poe1. sefyra (adra dragon) should also re-appear.
  5. Pallegina should have been like Viconia in baldurs gate.. through dialogues (perhaps through romance) , your character should have been able to change pallegina views regarding the republics, changing pallegina personality. dont undestand why pallegina in poe2 lacked criticism for the republics. i think the player should have been able to mold pallegina views like in poe1.
  6. Ixamitl looks like a combination of india/south asia with south american incan civilization.
  7. The way i see the equivalent to part of asia in eora is ixamitl . i think it has an aspect of mongolia, india and even south american incan aspects. however what would be far east asia in eora? the cultural equivalent of japan and china, for example ?
  8. classic rpg games like POE cant allow themselves to be inferior in any way in relation to baldurs gate 2. apart from the technical aspects, poe has better world setting and story in my opopinion , but a thing that baldurs gate , even though is a very old game has that it is superior is the reactivity. in poe a character like pallegina should leave the party if you start mass killing valian trading company people, perhaps even getting hostile. maia should leave the party if you say you killed kana. in baldurs gate durance and eder would probably get hostile to each other at some point. a thing that could be done using the poe2 system, is that if a character get at -4 relationship with another, they should either argue verbally with one of them threatening to leave the party , or even fight to the death. perhaps diplomacy checks could reduce the hostility.
  9. poe1 had lots of npc companions, that was the main advantage over poe2. but till now i think poe 2 is better. but some things in poe2 are strange. like the priest spells. priests in poe2 were seriously nerfed.
  10. if its a minor dlc. then it should be added more customization options. specially for godlike. also, blessed shields for all deities, not only magran.
  11. romances are ok as long as they are very well made (some dragon age romances are bad btw , most of baldurs gate ones better) . the game should nbot overly focus in romances. i think xoti romance was good in my opinion. maia, not so much.
  12. i always thought disposition of priest of magran was wrong. should favour agressive and honest , and be against deceptive and passionate. for ondra. it should favour passionate and deceptive , unfavour honest and rational
  13. another thing. Fallen classes are necessary. a paladin or priest should lose class if they do things that contradict their class. like in baldurs gate.
  14. but yeah , microsoft seems to like dumbed down games. the "nearest" thing to to a crpg is fable.
  15. Gotta disagree with you there. Because mass effect and dragon age were sucessful , although i think the world setting of dragon age is inferior to pillars. rpgs focused in story are not dead. but as i said before. the poe gameplay will unfortunately have to be modernised even more. lets hope the old workers , writers and directors of obsidian manage to preserve aspects of crpg even with the selling to obsidian.
  16. If pillars was not philosophical and was a generic "down to earth" rpg full of cliches. i would probably not even play it. the story needs to be intelligent. and it was. In my view the gameplay is that will unfortunately have to be even more modernized and more symilar to new rpgs like dragon age (despyte story and world setting of pillars being superior to dragon age) , in order to attract new players that are not into old classic rpgs. the reactivity of characters with the actions of the players and other characters need to improved. pillars also needed evil characters to join the party. sideckicks were a mistake in my view because they end up reducing the number of real companions.
  17. Nobody will do extensive surveys. Obsidian knows best what are the reasons, because they have the most experience to judge. However they won't tell us so... 1) Maybe you are right and maybe I am right. Without extensive survey we only have opinions here. 2) Abstract in the sense it was not personal and down to earth. Too philosophical. I have read such things, but mostly in my own native language. If I was native English speaker maybe I would think differently. 3) We have different perspectives here. I was able to understand what is being written, but the problem is that the writer tries to create a picture in the reader's mind using words. However, for the non native Engish reader those words do not evoke the same images and associations that the writer is expecting. So such a reader remains cold and is bored. Since you are saying that the game was well written, I will not insist that Obsidian should have written PoE in a different way, just that this probably led to some PoE players not buying PoE 2. 4) I mean this in the sense that PoE 2 only draws from the pool of PoE 1 players. By making the game a direct sequel Obsidian limited the potential player base for POE 2. Gotta strongly disagree with you there. your "solution" seems to be dumbing down pillars of eternity. the story being philosophical was what made me really like the series. in my view the story and world were better than baldurs gate. what i think was lacking were the characters. they need to have better reactivity. pillars and other crpgs can not be inferior to baldurs gate in any way. they need to be superior in almost anything. and pillars character reactivity is not as good as baldurs gate. perhaps my solutions were too vague. as far as gameplay , i think obsidian will have to modernize it even more, the classic aspect of gameplay will have to cede more to the modern . also, it was also a mistake to not apply romances in poe1. i think romances are not important. but most players think they are and many will not buy rpg games of this sort without them, the solution is to make them good , as it is easy to ruin them up . also, this thread is for everyone suggest solutions. if mine are wrong people can try something different.
  18. flying shipd if the game is not set in the ocean. or maybe new lands in eora, which needs more countries.
  19. How do But that is literally what they did! A modern RPG with the spirit of Baldur's Gate was the whole concept behind PoE! I suppose the only conclusion is that all the kids these days are too busy playing battle royale shooters to enjoy a good CRPG... *Grumble grumble* In my day, Battle Royale was a cult Japanese movie about teenagers killing each other... *Grumble grumble* How do you explain the sales sucess of Divinity Original Sin 2 ? have seen some screenshots and the graphic and gameplay seem worse than pillars. dont know how the game sold more than pillars. can someone explain that ? Anyway i think it is possible to produce something better than divinity original sin 2 . so there is still sales potential for possible future pillars games. Perhaps with flyng ships instead of normal ships, if the game is not set in the ocean. or maybe new lands in eora, which needs more countries.
  20. I think the story of pillars of eternity was great. dont know why complain about the pantheon /eothas storyline. A problem that i think was way more serious is the reactivity issues. characters should be more like baldurs gate. they should leave the group if you do things they greatly disagree (like mass killing people). Benevolent characters should fight evil players. Characters which are dratically opposed to each other after reaching relationship -4 , should even become hostile to each other. Also, pillars of eternity needed evil , or borderline evil companion characters that could enter conflict with opposed benevolent characters. Pillars of eternity and future rpgs of this sort have the need to be better than baldurs gate 2 in all things possible. since the game has almost 2 decades of existence. sidekicks were also a problem becuse they seem more lazy developed characters that reduced the number of real companions. sidekicks could be ok instead as temporary companions , leaving the party afer their quests were complete. focus should be on permanent companions diversification and reactivity . it is atrocious that maia does not become hostile or leave the party if you say that you sacrificed kana for skaen.
  21. Perhaps combining some aspects of classic rpgs with new rpgs could produce a balance between the two ? new aspects of rpgs together with the spirit of crpgs ? it does not need to be black and white. aspects of both could still be combined but mantaining important elements of crpgs like baldurs gate. never played divinity original sin 2 . but the screenshots and videos i have seen of the combat and graphics are hideous . if this sold greatly then i think pillars can do better . things are not lost. and character reactivity of pillars is better than divinity from what i have read.
  22. another thing . perhaps the concept of kickstarter should be used to reduce costs , but without the game completely depending on it.
  23. i hope pillars of eternity 3 is not impossible. from what i have seen after november the sales improved a little. perhaps because of the console sales ? if pillars 3 be ever released. i think a idea could be ( besides doing an epic game above level 20, which would be more difficult ) to create 2 characters. the watcher from poe1 and poe2 , which would be a non-playable npc who could even become an antagonist depending of your choices and whose story (and that of featured old characters) would depend on it. and your new level 1 character, i think the poe 1 and poe 2 characters should probably only appear as npcs in the new games if it would not be an epic game. your new character would start in level 1.
