Fallout 4 is coming soon.. is there a new OB Fallout Scheduled?
Fenixp replied to dava4444's topic in Computer and Console
That's the point, Extra Credits is trying to give people a superficial starting point from which they can start researching a topic - my biggest beef with their videos is that they don't provide a list of sources in spite of those being fairly easy to find. I'm derailing tho. -
Change your profile picture (If you haven't changed it within two weeks)

Can I randomly switch between being an arrogant **** and a nice guy to spice things up instead? Keeping to the same profile pic is quite practical, it makes identifying a user a lot easier. Right, Cant? -

I'd write a longass post about writing in videogames, but Extra Credits have already done this a long time ago, much better: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KG1ziCvLkJ0&ab_channel=ExtraCredits -

Remember the bit from Jagged Alliance 2 where you've had to 'liberate' the airport in order to get access to a helicopter? I imagine that's what happened. -
Metal Gear Rising is quite amazing. So is the new DmC, altho it's fairly easy. Then there's Transformers: Devastation which to me seemed horrible at first glance but is apparently brilliant - by Platinum Games no less.

I unlocked Sparks in Dirty Bomb. Look at her! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pW6VQBvnwQ0&ab_channel=DirtyBomb She can use her rail... I mean, Revive Gun to both snipe enemies to unrevive them and snipe friendlies to revive them and she's damn fast. Dirty Bomb's great. I hate multiplayer games. And Dirty Bomb's great.

Fog of War Options, Please?
Fenixp replied to Asmodean-'s topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Obsidian is actually extremely receptive to input of people playing their game and given how easy removal of FoW has got to be, we can assume that they quite simply do not wish to remove it. While I'm all for options and don't see any reason to not have this particular one included in the game, at the end of the day, it's Obsidian calling the shots and as ridiculous as it might sound, if you prefer games without fog of war, you're quite simply not the target audience and are not expected to buy the game in the first place. As for people giving up on the game because of FoW - it was never a secret that fog is in the game. You could see it in numerous youtube videos around the net, as well as in games Pillars of Eternity is inspired by, those based on Infinity Engine, so if FoW is such a big deal, researching it before purchase is a good idea (which you did, so it's all good) At the end of the day, removal of FoW changes both the game's ambiance and its difficulty. If Obsidian feels removing it would make the product different from what they want it to be, they're in full right to keep it in game. -
Quite a bit. In short, massive changes to quests, skills, talents + full voice acting and controller support. I didn't play it tho so I can't account for quality of the changes.

Never said any of your arguments are BS and I also never claimed characters in Bloodborne don't move slowly, you're spending time contradicting arguments I never made in the first place ;-) I guess I didn't make myself particularly clear and what I said was meant in jest, thus continuing with "Seriously" - my point is that you were speaking of fighting games and making an indirect comparison to real life, when I have never in my life seen a game realistically depicting melee combat of any description - combat's either too simplified and automated or work entirely differently to anything you can see IRL. I don't believe it's even possible to create in-game mechanics which precisely reflect melee combat, all we can ever get are approximations. And Souls series along with Bloodborne attempt to approaximate act of measuring up, estimating and researching your opponents as opposed to being faster than they are - if speed is what you expect of the game, you have missed the point entirely. As for pressing the right button at the right time - you have just described all games ever. If your point is that Blooborne is too easy you're either extremely good at playing videogames or you didn't get too far.
-
Never play Souls series then, they're even slower :-P And don't use fighting games and "real life fights" in the same sentence if you want your argument to be taken seriously. Seriously tho, I hated Dark Souls when I first played it, partly for how slow and dull it seemed, and Bloodborne shares Soul's DNA. The thing to understand about those games is that they're all about patience. They're very specifically designed to not reward speed and reflexes. Sure, you do need some semblance of speed and reflexes to play them(especially Bloodborne), but for the most part, the skills you have learned in fighting games and spectacle fighters are all quite useless. Running into a situation unprepared will get you killed. Actually, just generally running around unknown areas will get you killed, period. You need to patiently analyze, explore. You need to watch your opponents and figure out how they behave before you'll have any chance at beating them regularly. There's a lot to learn in that game - but the speed you have learned in other action-oriented games is not really going to help you.

PoE sells 500K units
Fenixp replied to Eisenheinrich's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'm actually quite interested in seeing how will Konami fare on mobile market, personally I think it was a bit of a stupid move, but what do I know. Anyway, one of the reasons why I'm a big fan of small, independent projects is precisely because they don't require the ridiculous budgets big projects do - the amount of cash flowing there is absurd. Obsidian absolutely seems to go the right way, their independent project was a success, they're branching out, I think it's by far the safest approach for a company like them. Even ****e on mobile requires skill to create in order to milk a good deal of money out of people, just lucking out with a single 10 cent app won't cut it for a studio like Obsidian. -
Bunch of wimps all of 'ya. Guess what? Eastern Europe. <_< >_> (I don't actually drink booze but that would ruin the joke)

Sure, but now they're working on a board game, apparently there are talks about TBS and then there's the second game. I don't think they want to be stagnant. -

If making money on mobile would be as easy as you and Zenbane describe it, you'd see every bigger company turn to it. But it's really not. Currently, phone market is saturated, and it requires massive amounts of marketing, branding, luck and very specific kind of gameplay (contrary to popular belief, crafting F2P phone games in such a way that they maximize profits is not that simple) to succeed. What you describe is the ideal scenario, but penetrating that particular market is night impossible and investing into mobile games is quite risky. What Obsidian went for was a more or less certain success - they started off with a KS campaign which showed them great interest in this kind of game and then they crafted the game as well as they could (and they're Obsidian, so sure it'll be good). With their background, experience and ability, if Obsidian wanted to make money and secure their future, I don't believe what they did is a bad way about it. -

Might be tighter, but wouldn't necessarily be better. RPGs are largely defined by the amount of choice they give players to realize their characters. Endless Paths added options which would be impossible to incorporate into the main game without Endless Paths. That's why stronghold is a bit of a failure - the only real option it currently offers to the player is whether he'll build everything or not, which is not much of an option. By expanding the main storyline and the main game, player would be just given more of the same. I consider Endless Paths an essential part of experience gained from Pillars. That being said, Obsidian could have added Endless Paths even without it being a stretch goal and nobody would really bat an eyelash over them doing so, optional long dungeons are not really a rare sight in RPGs of old, and generally speaking - yeah, for stretch goals to work, they need to be on the drawing board for the project since day one, and they need to be carefully considered when development team considers budget for the title as opposed to being semi-random things you throw on top of your KS to get more money. Either way, if Obsidian creates another KS for second Pillars, I'll gladly be one of them abused geeks who pay for anything. -
Fallout 4 is coming soon.. is there a new OB Fallout Scheduled?
Fenixp replied to dava4444's topic in Computer and Console
The way I understand it, Fallout 4 isn't quite as mechanics-driven as STALKER games - a lot of that game's appeal came from good AI and AI actors interacting with each other within the sandbox environment. All arenas were extremely open for this very purpose - so random bunch of dogs can run in and start murdering your baddies as you sneak around, which makes baddies notice you, which radically changes situation, you know, that kind of stuff. Emergent gameplay is the term I believe. Fallout 4 is a Bethesda title, so expect fantastic exploration aspect, but not necessarily what made STALKER great. -
Or maybe human anatomy is slightly different from the Dbgle Zblabl or whatever Darth Maul was. Alternatively, he felt spite 'cause he totally should have won the duel with his dual-edged lightsabre and so he comes back purely to prove that his concept totally works.
-
As long as Midichlorians are canon, Darth Maul can feel free to come back to life at his leisure :-P

Is Rebels any good? I just started watching Clone Wars and I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would.

As far as I'm concerned, Arkham Knight is the peak of the series. I also hope that you got it for PC for added gameplay - they added a minigame where you try to make the game not stutter on high settings, give up, and watch it stutter slightly less on default settings. Great game tho. Great game. Broken beyond belief. But great.

.... At least in Mass Effect they saved on development and actually played the same line regardless of your choice. -

Pretty much, Steam/GOG/Origin? takes cuts, presumably Paradox will take a percentage and most people buy games when they're on sale
