I'm not sure, if this is the right forum to post it, but it contains no spoilers, just a general observation. Does anyone else feel they're underwhelming when used by the player and overwhelming when stumbled in by the party? I had it numerous times that I lay out traps at certain choke points to lure a group of enemies to them. But often times it happens that one or two of them just run over them without anything happening. Then it clicks and it says triggered, but again, nothing happens. The trap just dissappears without leaving so much as a scratch on my opponents. Does this happen to anyone else? I'm on the 1.05 beta and I've got the feeling that it's gotten actually worse now, since with earlier patches there was at least some effect observable.

[Bug] Blunderbuss Cipher wont work.
abaris replied to Kallion's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
My cypher uses an ordinary pistol and when she hits, focus rises considerably. Enough to last for most encounters. -
Did you roll back the Cypher nerf with this one? I noticed my Cypher is up to full strength again.

I posted this before, but it's becoming a really annoying problem. Since 1.05 there seems to be a problem with laying traps. I like to use them at choke points to lure the enemies to them. First, most of the times absolutely nothing happens, although the enemy stands right on it. Some times it says triggered, but again, nothing seems to happen. The red dot just stays where it is and there's absolutely no effect observable. But the third problem is really going on my nerves. In the midst of battle, when the enemies are clustered at that choke point, I order attacks and the sword or spell symbols show up all right. But what my character does instead is making a beeline for that trap I layed out and disarm it, just because it's underneath the point where I wanted the attack to happen. So instead of an AOE I wanted to happen, I have a squishy character jogging right into harms way to get squashed. This only started to happen since I'm on 1.05.

Hacks to improve load times?
abaris replied to Idleray's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'm on the beta of 1.05 and don't see any improvement. To be fair, I'm on a rather old machine and the game runs flawless in ever other aspect, but the loading times are definetely taking some of the enjoyment. Especially in Defiance Bay where you virtually have to go through dozens of map transitions. As has been said, I find myself planning loading screen oders instead of simply enjoying the ride. -
But it did make them useless/boring in the beginning of the game, while almost not hurting them in the mid to late game where they should have been nerfed. Try reading my post next time. Right, pretty useless you say. Cypher level 3, patch 1.05 beta. 55 enemies killed out of a total of 110, highest total damage of 1600, highest individual damage of 56. Have you actually tried the new specs or are you just talking. I gave her a hunting bow and she ups her focus within seconds of each encounter.

Well, you could have taken the same road as me and not have bought it, if Bioware's "gay agenda" pisses you off that much. I didn't buy it for different reasons, since I couldn't care less about straight or gay. But I'm also not the one comparing and analysing pixel skulls to nail them for being too gay friendly and for their feminists makig women too ugly for you to drool over.

That's how it looks in a perfect world. The truth looks quite a bit different. So called AAA titles are tagging on multiplayer just to rake in some additional cash and seeing that the microtransactions happen after the release of the actual game, they do nothing for SP. Also the two different teams and budgets argument isn't how reality works. Yes, on the surface, it looks that way. But the manpower as well as the money are coming from somewhere and don't materialize out of thin air.

As far as I understand and observe it ingame, it's only when you pick them up. You uncheck the autlovel option under difficulty and you get level 1 companions ready to catch up to your level. There seems to be no option to reset them later on. That's why I said to start out with the option unchecked.
-
Yeah, but how does that work? I'm on the beta and haven't found the option. I would especially like to redo GM, since her faculties really aren't up to scratch. Took me a while to find as well. It's not in an intuitive menu. OPTIONS -> DIFFICULTY -> Uncheckmark the "Auto Level Companions" box Yeah, I found it, since another user pointed me to the menu, where I really didn't expect to find it. He got the category wrong, but once pointed in the right general direction, it was only a question of time to figure it out. Thanks anyway. It certainly will be usefull for other to know where to find it. Make sure that you uncheck the autolevel option as soon as you start a new game though. Otherwise you're collecting the same old autolevelled folks.

I don't see how my post contradicts yours. The problem is that publishers, like any shareholder company, look at short term gains. Their management isn't really invested in the product. Only insofar as the profit strenghtens their positions at the end of the year and their bonusses. So they're mass producing, which shows in the short development cicles of companies like Bioware, which isn't independent anymore but an EA division. And there are enough casuals to buy the next shiny polished turd to make up for losing a core audience, given the right marketing strategy.

Stronghold Modding Request
abaris replied to Kothyxaan's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Taxes should be collected regularly and certainly not turn based, but I have no problem with adventures being turn based. -
Which would make it an interesting option, given a creative writer. The main problems with romances in games isn't that they're there, it's their tagged on nature. If the story of the NPC makes for a believable option under the right circumstances, I'm all for it, since it can enrich the story and the playing experience. Funny as that may sound, the most interesting characters for a possible romance would be sexist Durance and out there GM. Pallegina and Eder not so much, since they represent the classic choice.

The problem with so called AAA titles is that they all have major publishers, who are only responsible to shareholders and want to rake in as much cash in as short a period possible. That way you get half baked products, in the case of Bioware, with tagged on multiplayer action, with console players in mind. Now the problem with the console is that the controller allows for less options than the keyboard and mouse of the PC. So, PC comes second in the foodchain for these publishers and the results are quite lazy ports, which, according to many reviews, culminated in abysmal PC controls for the third rendition of Dragon Age. Personally I haven't touched a Bioware product since DA:O, since it was obvious from playing the demo of DAII that they were catering to a different audience now. I played Skyrim and it was fun for a while, but I lost interest pretty quickly, since the quests were all fetch and carry and the world still didn't react to the achievements of your player. Also I hated the concept of being virtually pushed to become a Jack of all Trades by being able to join and become leader of all ingame guilds. So all that is left are crowdfounded products and, as opposed to some other titles in the past, I didn't regret my two purchases of this year, which were Divinity Original Sin and POE. That's actually one thing I like if done well. It gives the player some personality instead of just being a mindless killing machine. But it has to be believable and in character instead of just giving every sort of player character the option to romance everything that moves.
