  1. No one is stopping me from taking hirelings... Expcept the fact that companions are half of the game
  2. I'm pretty sure that's what they meant. :D As far as I know, Sidekicks only have that 1 quest to get them. Ok then, now I'm confused. If this is the case then.. well.. *to me* sidekicks are a complete waste of a more valuable slot that could go to either a pre-made character offering optimised class combination and stats or companion offering story line, roleplaying, relationships and dedicated quest lines... I can’t wrap my head around the “all or nothing” attitude. Better to have no integration into the story than some because unnecessary min/maxing? Well, it's all about tradeoff imho,It's not about the min maxing per se. Using sidekicks/companions i sacrifice part of the combat fun i would have using the most intersting class/subclass combination. So if i sacrifice that, it has to be worth it... I could do that for interesting companions with deep personality, interactions with other npcs, personal quests and so on. I'd definitely not do it just for a line of dialogue from time to time.
  3. So much this. I'm playing bg2 again right now and well... (almost) every character have a unique personality, their interaction with other companions and other npcs are cool and define each of them very well, they develop through the story (again not all of them, but surely aerie, anomen, viconia above all other). On poe, on the other hand... I think eder is the only one i liked. Hrivias had a cool concept but ir was poorly developed imho, durance just talked nonsense all the time, aloth was annoying af, pellegina... I dont think i remember a single line of her dialogues or something that define her personality...grieving mother literally dont speak with other companions. All of them just seem to be easily forgettable and unglued from each other and the surrounding world (while on bg2 it seems all tied togheter) . Oh well, i just hope they did better this time. The only sure thing is that i not gonna buy the game on day 1 and will wait for reviews.
  4. Wait.. What? I just bought bg2ee on android and that's better than i remembered... Dialogues are absolutely brilliant. Companions talk with each other, interact with you and with npcs... The interactions are far superior than poe 1 imho, and their personalities are developed a lot better (in poe, as in many other modern rpgs you get an npc and then you have to go through a wall of text having talking to them... While in bg2 the talking develop through the whole story). Some prersonal quests are easily forgettable (i.e. Keldorn) but some others are quite good. I can bet from now that dialogues wise bg2 will be still superior to poe (and that's decades later...)
  5. So it's okay to choose which of three different class combinations a companion has, what abilities they learn at level up, and what weapons and armour they use, but going beyond that crosses some invisible line of character autonomy? From a designers point of view: yes. I lol'd irl. I can understand a certain degree of restriction (i.e. Priest or paladins). But i cant see how giving the possibilities to pick a subclass for eder or aloth can be a wall for developers (which btw, after all the hard work to create and develop all the classes, subclasses, balance multiclass and so on should be more than happy to give us the most freedom possibile to toy around with combination, without forcing us to use hirelings... That would waste the work of developers on companions interactions, quests etc...) Also i dont see a single reason why people should be happy about being limited and why they would want others to be limited aswell.. You want your eder to be a pure basic fighter?you feel that the less option you are given the better? Fine, you can even ignore the chance to multiclass eder or make him a rogue. Let me choose to make him an unbroken or a devoted kkthx
  6. Well, i could understand some limitiation lorewise, but the main problem imho is that the companions are so few that you should have the most freedom possible on their management, since going with sideckicks or player made npcs will gimp your overall game experience... And especially on subclasses i dont see why they should limit it on companions since that could make sense on paladins and priest only
  7. Same... Looks like that trying to give "freedom" to choose any armor on any class just overcomplicated things...
  8. That's very sad to hear... The whole armor system doesnt make sense to me... With how the recovery system work you force the dpser to go either plate or naked depending on wheter they can be targeted in melee or not... So your standard rogue, barbarian, ranger, druid, bard etc. wont have the typical light/medium armor (which i always loved btw). That also mean you limit the item design cause you'd have to create an incredibly powerful medium armor to convince players to actually use it... I'm all for some kind of malus for wearing armor but they just could have bern to movement (not action) speed, skill checks or something like that...
  9. Oh, that's just lame. One of the thing i disliked the most on poe, that almost kept me away from the game, was that silly armor system. Sad to hear it's even worse
  10. I'm not in the beta bit as far as i recall the answer is yes, there should be a fighter talent that reduces penalities though... For the 2nd question again yes, at least in poe1 you basically wanted your front liners sluggisg and with max armor and the backliners naked and fast (yeah the armor system is kinda lazy if you ask me, in the end it just boils down to that, naked or full armored. At least in poe1 you had almost no reasons to wear medium/light armors cause of the recover penalty... Wich felt kinda dumb imho. Not sure if anything has changed in deadfire though)
  11. So... This means that only fassina can have a subclass while all the others npcs are bound to the main class?
  12. Any news on the topic? I kinda have the bad feeling that the endless class possibilities could be heavily hampered by how the companion are handled... Since their number is very low, i hope they give us at least some flexibility. I know they will have suboptimal stats and i can be ok with that. I just hope we wont be forced to play with the mindless mercenaries (ot whatever the custom npcs are called) to have a decent party.
  13. solved with the classic uninstall and reinstall...funny thing is that the only reason i had IE mods installed is to retroactively update the companion stats as of 1.03, oh well...
  14. sorry for the dumb question but, how do i restore the old files? if i try to launch the 1.03 installer it just says the patch is already installed, and if i try to update to 1.04 it gives me that error. Do i have to manually delete the dll and replace with the "original" one? and how do i do that? Thanks :<
  15. Can somebody help me with this? I get this message when i try to update the game Pillars of Eternity patch log Update from version 2.1.0.3 to 2.1.1.4 Incorrect version of: C:\GOG Games\Pillars of Eternity\PillarsOfEternity_Data\Managed\Assembly-CSharp.dll any ideas on how to solve this?
