  1. Yes the ending is kind of hamfisted but that's not what I meant and not everybody disagrees with me, game does relay an underlying political / non religious value and to me it felt like that it was done to the extent where it kind of ruined the game, at least for me.... Why was the game ruined by relaying an underlying value?
  2. POE asks a question directly, through Iovara: "what if we can be assured of nothing?" Given that you're at the climax of the game when you're asked this question, I'd say it's as close as you get to a summing-up of the game's themes in a single line. Not "what if there is no God?" but "what if there's no way to be sure whether or not there is a God?" I would have assumed that if you're religious the answer would be "faith" but it's interesting to me that Brimsurfer is so offended that the question would even be asked.
  3. Brimsurfer watching Return Of The Jedi: I can't believe the rebels won even though the Emperor said they would all be destroyed. This story is contradicting itself!
  4. The villain says that! Thaos! The bad guy! The man you specifically have to kill to win the game! What on earth makes you think he's meant to be the font of all wisdom?
  5. Atheist, playing fantasy game with gods that definitely exist: This is some cool fantasy, yo. Theist, playing a fantasy game in which some characters are atheists: Ugh. I hate this. It is abhorrent to me.
  6. I urge you to read previous posts again or play the final act again The story could have gone anyway, but it specifically steered into this direction and the dialogue repeatedly mentioned, that Gods are lie, they are fabricated, accountability to higher power is an illusion created to keep the people in line etc etc........act 4 narrative is pitted with such phrases..........and as I was playing the game, I was like, WTF is this? For me how the story unfolded in the final act was a big disappointment, there was so much potential in this tale and yet it was somehow reduced to the same old cliche.....and it really felt like it was deliberate......... I don't know that there are so many fantasy stories where the gods of the setting turn out not to be real that it could be considered an "old cliche"
  7. I can't remember the exact path but look for a folder called "localized" and the "en" folder in it (or language of your choice). That folder will contain separate files and folders for various areas in the game, and the files can be opened in Notepad. I can't remember if there's one specifically for Durance's dialogue, but that'll hopefully help you in general.
  8. I was actually surprised to find out "the gods are false" was just one of several story beats that got pitched; I'd have bet big bucks that that was one of the first things Sawyer came up with when designing this setting. It also specifically says that even those gods very false......... Why would I remove faith as a thematic option, if an actual deity were offered in the game? Faith is the basis of all religions of the world specially the 3 dominant Abrahamic religeons .... Faith is something you can only have if you don't have proof that God is real. Nobody has faith in things that definitely exist, like gravity or evolution.
  9. I mean I haven't played Torment myself but my wife's been going through the beta and it seems pretty good, but not genre-endingly good.
  10. I think it's a stretch to say that people who play Torment will no longer feel the need to play any video games ever again.
  11. How do you know any bugs will remain after 3.02? There isn't even any indication of when they're releasing that patch so I don't know how you can guess at what bugs won't be fixed in it.
  12. It has not been a whole year.
  13. I'd kind of hope they wouldn't need a kickstarter for POE2; the original game sold over half a million and while I don't know what kind of cut the developer gets from that after Steam/Paradox get theirs and funding the expansion/patches, I'm sure there's $3 million left over for them to make another game on POE's level.
  14. Wizard weapons are, uh, different.
  15. Well, as far as Magran favouring some kinds of weapons over others, it's not like the gods can't be tricked. Look at stuff like this to see how people try and trick God even in the real world.
  16. I don't know if you can really get away with accusing people of melting down while you are yourself melting down.
  17. They do have all the power of gods, the difference is they are kith-made. They exist, they are real. Their origins are not exactly what the people think to be but that doesn't make their power anything lesser. Yes it does. Gods are implicitly creators or progenitors; Says who? I mean in our world sure, you are right. But we are in a fantasty setting. Here anything is possible and it doesn't matter that much to the average Eder. It's an interesting subject for the intelectuals of Eora but only that. I still don't know how that does their power any lesser? Look at what Magran did with Eothas, or Ondra and Abydon. Their power is immense and vastly beyond anything simple Kith can achive. Even archmages such as Llengrath or Concelhaut don't come anything close to the power of the gods. They're not beyond anything kith can achieve. They literally are something kith achieved.
  18. He also didn't say "we have a new project that we're about to start working on". I sure hope they announce Pillars 2 and also a space opera RPG
  19. They do have all the power of gods, the difference is they are kith-made. They exist, they are real. Their origins are not exactly what the people think to be but that doesn't make their power anything lesser.Yes it does. Gods are implicitly creators or progenitors; the POE "gods" are just freakish weird kings with magic powers who were bolted onto existing systems. Think of it like the difference between Obsidian making an isometric CRPG and them claiming to have invented the genre.
  20. Basically the gods are real, but they aren't gods.
  21. I'm scanning through this extended meltdown to see if he has used the word "magic" pejoratively. Like "I guess this sword just MAGICALLY gets the same bonus that applies to arquebuses??" I don't think he does...
  22. That depends on when you played; there was an issue at release that was causing save/load times to become bloated. As of the last patch or so the loading times are still way too long but bearable, especially if you have an SSD
  23. My hope for a sequel is that they unshackle themselves from the Infinity engine. They made the IE game they said they were going to make, now let's go somewhere weird and do different things with the gameplay.
  24. The expansions and new features introduced by later patches threw up a few bugs themselves; ironically the game was at its most stable around mid-April or so. Think of the expansions as being like little new games that are being released, they're always bound to have bugs of their own. I'd expect the upcoming 3.02 patch to probably be the last one.
  25. I didn't play enough new games last year to be able to call it a goty (and I have a hunch it'd lose out to MGS5 or Witcher 3) but it's a fantastic game for sure and enchanted me all the way through, White March even more so.
