Let's Play: Baldur's Gate Trilogy - Ch26 (Mae'Var)
Tigranes replied to Tigranes's topic in Computer and Console
It's coming.... as soon as Gibberlings 3 forums are back up so I can download the latest version of SCS2 (v21). Does anyone have a copy, or something? I'm also hopeful the saves transfer will work OK. The lineup that survived BG1, including all the last-minute deaths: Tale, Wild Mage (Level 9) Gorth, Archer (6) TrueNeutral, Shapeshifter (7) Pidesco, Fighter/Illusionist (3/2) Nepenthe, Cavalier (7) Our waiting list includes: Calax, Some Kind of Cleric, will start the campaign Azure, Kensai And I will now reopen the waiting list for anyone that died along the way. For reference, our BG1 Cemetery: -
Actually, I wouldn't mind headphones except I hate having things on my head - I don't even own any caps/hats because I can't stand it. Similar problem with having wires go over the ear, round my neck, etc, which really limits me to specific types of IEMs. Nepenthe, it is rather gaudy, but I find earphones are so small it's OK for them to stand out, I just don't understand why everybody makes black ones that all look the same, a bunch of wires stuffed into pods.

I played on Hard, and it felt like DX3 - in other words, Thief-light with a greater emphasis on gadgets that is pretty cool but not amazing. That was fine, then I blinked up on a ledge and tried firing a few fire bolts at random guards. They literally run into each other creating an orgy of collision boxes walking on their burning comrade, never thinking to look up, then eventually disperse confusedly, even as I continue to shoot bolts at them and call their mothers by funny names. Pfft. I might get for under $10, if someone makes a mod to fix that stupidity.

My etymotic has torn wire casings in several places and is dying in numerous ways after just a year of use. To be fair, I should have taken better care of them - there have been many instances of accidental snaps and pant-pocket carrys. So of course, this time I look for a more durable and well-built set of IEMs, but eventually pick one for looks + sound quality anyway. I had considered other modestly-priced options like Hifiman RE-262 and Shure SE215, but... http://www.amazon.co...ils_o00_s00_i00 Monster's Miles Davis Trumpet. Actually, the reports are that the build quality is very good in most places, you just never want to pull them by the cable. But they're pretty, so much is forgiven. Will see how the sound quality and fit works for me when I get it on Wednesday.

Only couple more days until my busy period is over, then the glorious BG2 Obsidianite Ironman LP will begin. Huzzah! Also wonder if I can find my copy of EU2, or just crack open RTW with mods. I had originally planned to buy Dishonoured or some other 2012 release, but man do they look mediocre. My 15 minutes with Dishonoured was largely pfeh.

Buffing is great, and removing it altogether would just simplify the gameplay - too much cost. As Sawyer said once, there's a super simple solution - allow customizable buff package scripts and tie it to hotkeys / quick bar so you can cast Buff Set #1, #2, etc.

It's a rare gift to smile well, really, especially in freeze-frame. Looking forward to December 17, when I will shift from write-these-papers-right-now mode to let's-read-Sloterdijk-and-Wittgenstein mode. Also, will continue the Baldur's Gate LP, just need to figure out which party members are still alive and which Obsidianites need to be drafted in for Shadows of Amn. I'll need to either complete the campaign by early January, or ensure we all get killed before then. Sent the girlfriend some Christmas presents because I expected US-NZ shipping to be horrendous. Hilariously, I think I sneaked in just before the crunch began, so it looks like it will arrive.... tomorrow.

I thought that's what 90% of the world looks like when they smile in official photographs.

Snails are fantastic, I love them. Especially if you have them in Paris. I also remember some deer sausages that were simply amazing, very chewy and juicy, but I don't know how it is in other cuts.

1-day indoor 4v4 football (the real kind) tournament last night with a double-elimination rule. We started off with by far the best team out there, who began proceedings by making a long pass through my legs then the runner side-footing a volley into goal on the first touch. After that we proceeded to win every game, draw the semi-finals, then the 'penalty shootout' (which was people shooting into the tiny goal from 10m away with no keeper) where everyone on our team missed. Had a typical joker in the quarter-finals where we came back from 2-0 to 2-2, he pretended he thought they were winning 4-3, tried to mock my English (heh) then started pushing and huffing to try and get a winner. Gave him a couple of well-aimed tackles that got the ball and a lot of his legs too, and we won it in the end. I may be short and spindly but screw those bastards. It's been good to be able to play once or twice a week these days, there's nothing quite like sport. Meanwhile, writing an unwisely ambitious paper, and the best indication of my stress levels is that I'm drinking Coke. Coke!

None, unless we were talking an Evil Genius kind of game where we build and lay traps and ambushes for spider-man and engage in RPG-like activities to smear his name or discover his true identity.

Proyect Eternity
Tigranes replied to Verllero's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
No, they can't, because they can't use the D&D license. Yes, that's in there. -
I'm perfectly fine with it all, but it just doesn't make sense taste / availability / etc wise most of the time. I did try dog once and it was pretty good, but nothing I'd look for specifically.

Maybe that means (1) you shouldn't try and 'clear' that area right now because you clearly aren't strong enough; (2) you shouldn't be resting outdoors unless you really want to take that risk; (3) you should lower the difficulty level. If it's a compulsory area then they are rarely too difficult in vanilla BG, so either you're still in the learning phase of all the mechanics (which... probably isn't the case as you've played BG2, though you never know) or you might use a lower difficulty.

Aww, look who's all morally affronted by it. I do reserve a particular dislike here, because when someone makes a bad game, at least they were trying to make a good game, and perhaps could have. This was a largely pointless endeavour that's resulted in an all too predictably poor product that never needed to be made. Modded BG - even if one restricts oneself to easy to install mods - provide an amazing experience and this is just a bunch of dudes who are making $ on something decidedly inferior. Not even the fact that you're 100 % agreeing with Volourn makes you question your opinion? I mean, it's often done that to me. If mad I am, I embrace the mad I am. Oh yes indeed. MAD!

No need to invent things that are wrong with BG:EE, there's plenty wrong with it as it is.
-
So... yeah. The Real Baldur's Gate has been working great for the last 14 years, if anyone actually wants to play. They could do exactly the same things they did to BG to Lionheart and it would still not be worth the money. It was clear that they didn't have the resources, direction, or the competence to make any 'enhancements' that could really wow anyone that's ever tried BG mods.

Games to play while waiting for Project Eternity
Tigranes replied to loufoque's topic in Computer and Console
The licensing complications around it are horrible and facepalmy, but amazon always has cheap hardcopies for NWN2 and/or xpacks. -
Because 'A New Torment' sounds like a Twilight fan-fiction title.

1. Planescape Torment 2. Arcanum 3. NWN2: Mask of the Betrayer MOTB will be immediately appealing to you; PST and Arcanum take a few hours to get into, but these are quite simply unmissable. PST and Arcanum are available for cheap on GOG; then simply look for the latest version of the community fixpack & widescreen mod for each - ten minutes later, you're up and playing.
