huh... Does low int or res affect dialogue options much? What do you mean "huh"? We are talking about "role-playing perspective". So if character is assigned, from role-playing perspective, INT of 12 its like if the character had INT of Gul, which is not much or? I am saying that there is no role-perspective in this game when it comes to Attributes - it does not make sense - saying, for example, I do not want to lower INT to 3 because it would, from role-playing perspective, make my character stupid.
-
It was debated before but let me point out that from role-playing perspective INT of 12 is INT of Gul or RES of 13 is RES of Shade. In this sense there is no role-playing perspective when it comes to Attributes. They serve only to game mechanics. Min-maxing is pushing the limits, of game mechanics, which by itself can be "role-playing".

Carnage works regardless, just smaller radius which btw has no indicator as far as I know and since it does damage around target often its matter of positioning rather than radius. I would say dumping Int is hard call but its not gamebreaking. Depends where the points go instead and build specifics.

As for getting hit, random fight in Heritage Hill just to show Consecrated Ground heals me for 9.5 Gaun's 3-6 and as you can see I've done nothing. Not even positioned myself well. Maybe I will lose the fight, if I don't use anything else like pot or figurine but maybe not. Not but needed to reposition. The fail is fine with shocking lash. Granted this was not the most difficult fight for my level, so while I do get hit, and interrupted, it does not seem to matter all that much.

I am not set on those yet, however, as I mentioned earlier I do believe weapon choice determines Barbarian build, at least for my purpose, and in sense whole playthrough as some weapons need to be adventured for. Weapon focus Adventurer mainly for endurance drain from early fail and disorient + DR bypass on estoc. One of the problems with PotD as it revolves around DR a lot imo. Full plate till recently now Heldrik's Coat but sometimes Sun-Touched Mail (don't have abilities so I am happy to cast something lol) or even Aru Breker, I mean difficult fights require set up anyway and routine (say catacombs where I just walked and killed everything spores included for the first time ever ..) are fine with what the game offers without much meta. If I could get decent Crit chance I'd probably be happiest and picked weapons/talents accordingly but with ~ 10% crits it does not seem too attractive.

Depends, on attack speed/recovery and interrupt of enemy. Say Guls I switch to fail and drain enough health to win. Obviously, not getting hit by 8 but like 3 at the same time is essential so butt in corner or choke or figurine. I intended it to be "interrupt" build at first, having high Con aiming for the Morningstar in stream .., but then I figured high Ref is not so bad even without interrupt (blows). The answer to not getting interrupted (too much) I found when playing Wiz ~ Dex. Regardless, its going rather smoothly. I mean level 5 with relative ease before Caed Nua, there winning both fights without scrolls and say gimmicks just standing there hitting. Nothing try-hard so far. So I think it kinda works. edit: estoc works as you suspect. but if it hits it hit so hard like 44 carnage that often its worth the wait. depends on encounter/enemy. I switch mindfight too if needed but usually just beat them. I use pots for difficult fights, aim, attack speed, health .. I have so much health.

My current build (as usual solo PotD /shrugs) Boreal Dwarf (RP lol and also +15 accuracy works in many fights Act I/II) Godlike would probably be better but I don't want to hear anything about cheap Mig 21 Con 19 Dex 17 Per 15 Int 3 Res 3 Weapon Focus Adventurer. The only encounter I cannot beat at level 8 is top floor of the lighthouse atm. Though, if I would enchant Gaun's fail to Spirit slaying (and secondary Burn as I have Shock on it ..) it would probably be doable. I mean I tried and it looked alright.

Not getting hit does not mean literally not getting hit, because what would be the point of playing character which cant get hit? However, the way I see it there are two basic approaches. To have "balanced" stats which basically means max 2 and leave rest at 10 and "min/max" stats which basically means dump 2 to max 4. So as tank I can have high deflection via Per/Res (reflex/will). This is what I mean by "not getting hit" ~ build tank through stats, equipment and talents to have high deflection so s/he does not get hit by weapons (attacks on deflection) too often. That s/he may get hit by something else .. that is unavoidable and with party to support pretty much inconsequential. Or as tank I can forget about deflection and max Mig/Con/Dex and Per to have highest For and Ref saves possible, dumping Will, relying on health pool, DR and healing unlike in case of high deflection tank who relies on not getting hit.
-
Either don't get hit (deflection) or if you get hit have DR, saves (Fortitude and Reflex as one cant have it all and additional effects on hit target them), health pool and healing. With high enough For, for example, its possible to tank enemies like kobold skirmisher or phantoms who normally stunlock with good chances of winning as they tend to graze or miss quite often. Either way it works.

Not really, consider other talents/abilities you will take as Barbarian. It does not have to be master of nothing but can be master of "best" weapons. If you could for example equip two life (endurance) draining weapons on decent speed and accuracy with decent armor it would make high health/endurance Barb doing high damage pretty much invincible for large part of the game. This is possible/feasible only by picking two weapon focus talents as far I know. There are also other advantages in being able to use more variety of weapons, especially for fast 2w warrior in party. Say, disorient on hit or even being able to wield the most efficient weapon for any encounter (Secondary Damage or Slaying tailored to fight). Actually, if any class should switch between weapon sets its probably Barbarian aside from reloading snipers. But anyway .. you like something else so that's fine. On hard I would not know. If you pick Vulnerable Attack (5 DR bypass at 20% less attack speed) it could be enough to make difference even with non DR bypass weapons. Pick what you like most and adjust other parameters, like Vulnerable Attack or Mig. http://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Unique_Weapons

Depending on difficulty, DR bypass on weapons can and probably should influence weapon choice/focus greatly. Its probably the most important choice for Barbarian build, though nowhere it is written one cannot be specialized in more weapons through talents. Same goes for dual-wield and 2h, you can have both. The sentiment to have high Res I can understand but personally I prefer Fortitude and Reflex saves which also means low Int. All or nothing approach. Though for regular playthrough, playing Barbarian as off-tank/dps I would not worry about having stats from OP in party. They are fine. So which weapon focus? Every one except Peasant. If you like swords, you also get axes and morningstar with high interrupt. Adventurer gives estoc and life leech fail and Noble DR bypass maces and fast daggers and rapiers. I would go with esthetics/role playing. There are weapons (talents) around to complement every build.

The thing is, what else to spend points for? For solo, Lore for scrolls ok but question is if that is not less essential to playthrough than Mechanics. We can ask what is the lowest hypothetical Mechanics needed to finish the game solo but that has largely hypothetical answers. Survival is nice but one can always gulp another potion, at minimal penalty. Athletics, solo rests often. Stealth seem to have diminishing returns. Lore, well, probably will be quite situational though powerful. As noted, since trap nerf, and traps are source of free damage offered by the game, Mechanics is essential for them to hit. So to me Mechanics remains priority, not to extreme but for routine use.

Barbarian is viable on PotD with or without the said armor. a) not sure but since I have Barb close to that point in the story I should know soon b) Greater Frenzy is not worth it imo c) Berserker's Belt is not worth it imo In party, where fights are so short that Barb can Frenzy through them, I do not think it matters at all what kind of armor s/he uses, but yeah it could work like that .. Great Great Frenzy.

"Mandatory" depends on what you want to do with solo character in the game. "Finish game" has different requirements than "complete everything" for example. Personally, I would not bother with dragon on first solo but that is me. To finish the game Mechanic around 7 (+2 gloves) is probably helpful for disarming traps, but other than that I cant recall anything mandatory. Cant say about scrolls as don't have experience with them.

Con is back, this time in more reasonable manner, Barbarian As for tips .. second try without scrolls just figurine, FB trap and yellow pot. Could have sneak her in earlier, and even this time as I have Stealth 5, but wanted to see how it goes. She is level 5 though as it was relatively easy to clear everything needed/offered. AoE is AoE Carnage good, procs life leech too. Minimalist on Int but so far so good. 81 For without food, boreal dwarf 21/19.

Very nice. btw do you have any notes on Cliaban Rilag? Because I have not found way through it without defeated as reported in the initial "pacifizm" thread. To compare, I had more in prologue (wolves and spiders but iirc I cleared it all unaware it would count since companions don't), mentioned Forgotten, spiders in Dyrford cave killed by friendlies, but quest wise it sounds similar to my experience. Thief for key perhaps and ambush in Copperlane were avoidable in my run. There are quite few peaceful solutions by default, good job Obsidian indeed, though some encounters require Rogue or similar disengagement ability so that kind of borderline. Then again, the limit is <175 for achievement? so that's plenty.

That is what I thought. Maybe you will get to try it yourself but its not that simple as SB is not always working as described ~ there are instances where enemies can/will follow despite PC being "invisible" ~ seems SB can mess up AI behavior. If it worked like that I'd be done with Thaos in 15 mins not hours. Even if it works, it does not guarantee split. Level 11 with "blind" setup does not allow for many options.
-
Nice indeed, though there is not much difference between split and charm/dominate as they serve the same purpose. Should have done it without scrolls just to demonstrate. I am not expert on this fight (spent most time in Act I and II) but from my limited experience the start of it is crucial. I got level 9 Wiz parked in Bay, probably should take her to the end, just to try stuff.

AI is, unfortunately, given. This is not Dark Souls, there is no skill contest. BG was adventure with story, puzzles and interesting characters (probably first time NPC romances were introduced to the genre something Bioware expanded upon greatly in their later games). As of now players will always outsmart AI and difficulty can only be imposed by very tight requirements on hand/eye coordination ~ Dark Souls. Want difficult AI? Try Chinook where AI is so good its impossible for human to beat it. We do not want that. We want to have reasonable challenge and fun. My point? I dunno. I guess its unrealistic to expect for people not to have tendencies to view certain approaches as lets say abnormal. Just .. there is no basis except personal preference, opinion.
